RZ Series units are available inmultiple configurations and include manystandard features that make AAON synonymouswith quality products for any application.Premium EfficiencyCompressorsThe RZ Series Packaged Rooftop Unit includes variable speed compressors asstandard. Each interlaced evaporator coil includes one circuit with VFD variablespeed compressor for consistent air temperature across the face of the coil at alloperating conditions. During part load operation, reducing compressor capacitysaves system operating costs. The variable speed compressors use inverter drivenpermanent magnet motors for down to 11% unit turndown on some models. IEERpart load efficiencies for the RZ Series can be as high as 18.7.Variable Speed CompressorsProvide consistent supply air temperaturecontrol, load matching cooling, and highpart load efficiency.Supply FansThe RZ Series offers supply fan arrays with up to 12 fans using high efficiency directdrive airfoil plenum fans with optional permanent magnet motors. In the past whengreater airflows were required, the diameter of the single plenum fan was simplyincreased to meet the requirement. This resulted in higher tip speeds, which alsomeant higher sound levels. With the AAON RZ Series, greater airflow rates can beaccomplished with multiple fans of smaller diameter, which inherently will bequieter than a single larger diameter fan. All the fans are also directly driven bythe motor, which eliminates the drive belt assembly and associated maintenance.Supply Fan ArrayProvides quiet high efficiency operation with low maintenanceand built-in redundancy. Backdraft dampers are available.

The Benefits of Permanent Magnet Motor Technology versus AC Induction MotorsThe RZ Series supply fan array is designed around new permanentmagnet motor technology. These hybrid motors incorporate asynchronous reluctance rotor with permanent magnets to achieve anInternational Efficiency rating above IE5, which is the highest levelof efficiency today. The example chart below shows that this HybridPermanent Magnet Motor has the highest efficiencies at all loadconditions compared with the Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM)and the Premium Efficiency Induction Motor. The advantages of theHybrid Permanent Magnet Motor are even more significant at thelower fan speeds. Interior of evaporativecondenser is constructed of 304 stainless steel and othernon-corrosive materials. Desuperheater coils include polymere-coating for corrosion protection.Air-Handling UnitsWater-Cooled CondensingThe RZ Series also fits the job when units are required without compressors.The unit will be built without a condensing section and walk-in compressorand control vestibule. All other features and options are readily available.Air handling units may include the following options:Highly energy efficient water-cooled units are of particularapplication value when cooling tower water is available. Thestandard water-cooled RZ Series units include these features: Supplied with a DX coil and expansion valves.Supplied with a chilled water coil in 4, 6, or 8 rows.The unit may be specified with any of the heating options toprovide a year-round rooftop heating and cooling package. Shell and tube refrigerant-to-water heat exchangers.Each heat exchanger is provided with a removableand cleanable type basket filter.Heat exchanger piping connections are made withinthe condensing section of the roof top unit.

Heating OptionsFan SelectionThe RZ Series can be configured as either a draw-through or blow-through arrangement with supply or return fans. The supply blowerassemblies are direct drive, unhoused, single inlet, single width, fans. AAON ECat selection software easily allows selection for constantor variable air flow applications. The software determines the most efficient alternatives for the application as a function of fan quantity,fan diameter, fan blade width, and rpm.Inlet and outlet sound ratings are provided for each combination of fans and unit inlet and outlet sound ratings are determined forthe overall unit configuration. Multiple fans can provide improved reliability, greater efficiency, lower sound levels, and greater serviceoptions.Gas HeatElectric HeatAll 304 stainless steel design construction assures dependable,long term functionality. Through elimination of the need forinternal turbulators, this unique design reduces service issues,and increases capacity and efficiency. Individual RZ Series gasheat exchanger modules are designed for 350 MBH and 400MBH input rates and can be configured for up to a 4500 MBHtotal gas input rating on the largest cabinet size. High turndown modulating gas heat provides greater fuel efficiency andimproved occupancy comfort. Final filters are allowable on theRZ Series gas heat units.Electric resistance heating elements are open type withlow watt density nickel chromium. The heating modulesare 40 kW with individual circuit fusing and a manuallyreset high temperature limit switch. SCR (Silicon ControlledRectifier) electric heat control for supply air temperature controlreduced power consumption, longer heater life and improvedoccupant comfort.Hot Water and Steam Heat CoilsHot water and steam coils are available in 1 or 2 rowconfigurations with multiple different face areas to meet jobrequirements.Hot Water or Steam Preheat CoilsWhen jobsite conditions require, coils are available toprecondition the outside air. 1 or 2 row hot water or steamcoils may be supplied to match the system requirements.
