IntroductionNaim Audio products are conceived with performance as the top priority. Careful installationwill help ensure that their full potential is achieved. This manual covers all integratedamplifiers. It begins with some general installation notes. Product specific information beginsin Section 4.1. ConnectionsNote: Please readthe Statutory SafetyWarnings found at theend of this manual.2.1 Mains Plug WiringIn some territories a mains plug may need to be fitted tothe supplied mains lead. As the colours of the wires in themains lead may not correspond with the coloured markingsidentifying the terminals in the plug proceed as follows:It is important for both safety and performance that thestandard cables supplied are not modified.1.1 Interconnect CablesThe wire coloured GREEN-AND-YELLOW must be connectedto the terminal in the plug marked by the letter E or bythe safety earth symbol or coloured GREEN or GREEN andYELLOW.If options are available with your equipment and installation,DIN interconnect sockets should be used in preference toRCA Phono sockets. One end of each Naim interconnectcable is marked with a band to establish its correctorientation. The band denotes the end that connects to thesignal source. Naim Hi-Line interconnect cable will providethe best results. The wire coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminalin the plug marked with the letter N or coloured BLACK.The wire coloured BROWN must be connected to theterminal in the plug marked with the letter L or colouredRED.Interconnect plugs and sockets should be kept cleanand free from corrosion. The easiest way to clean themis to switch off the equipment, pull the plugs out of theirsockets, and push them back in again. Contact cleaners and“enhancers” should not be used as the film they deposit maydegrade the sound.2.2 Equipment FusesMains powered Naim Audio equipment is fitted with a mainsfuse on the rear panel adjacent to the mains input socket.Replace it if necessary only with the spare fuse supplied orwith an identical fuse. Repeated failure of the fuse points toa fault that should be investigated by your retailer or Naimitself.1.2 Loudspeaker CablesLoudspeaker cables are vitally important. They shouldeach be at least 3.5 metres long and of equal length. Therecommended maximum is normally 20 metres althoughlonger cables may be viable with some Naim amplifiers.2.3 Non-rewirable Mains PlugsIf a non-rewirable plug is cut from a mains lead (forwhatever purpose) the plug MUST be disposed of in a wayto render it totally useless. Considerable shock hazard existsif the cut-off plug is inserted into a mains outlet. Some Naim amplifiers are designed only to work with Naimloudspeaker cable and using alternatives may degrade theperformance or even damage the amplifier. Other Naimamplifiers can be used with any high quality loudspeakercable although we recommend that Naim loudspeaker cableis used. Naim loudspeaker cable is directional and shouldbe oriented so that the printed arrow points towards thespeakers. The Naim loudspeaker connectors supplied aredesigned to comply with European safety legislation andmust be used.2.4 Mains Circuits and CablesA hi-fi system usually shares a mains circuit with otherhousehold equipment some of which can cause distortionof the mains waveform. This distortion can in turn leadto mechanical hum from mains transformers. Some Naimtransformers are large in size, making them relativelysensitive to such distortion, and it may be necessary to takeaccount of transformer hum when siting your equipment.Contact your local retailer or distributor for further adviceon loudspeaker cables and connectors.2. Mains PowerTransformer hum is not transmitted through the speakersand has no effect on the performance of the system;however, a separate mains circuit may reduce it. Such acircuit (ideally with a 30 or 45 Amp rating) will also generallyimprove system performance. Advice on the installation ofa separate mains circuit should be sought from a qualifiedelectrician.Use only the mains leads and plugs supplied or the NaimPowerLine mains cable.Where fused plugs are used 13 amp fuses should be fitted.Fuses of a lower rating will fail after a period of use. Do notwire voltage dependent resistors or noise suppressors intomains plugs. They degrade the mains supply and the sound.E1

3. General Installation3.5 Lightning PrecautionsNaim equipment is designed to offer the finest performancepossible avoiding compromise wherever practical. This canlead to circumstances that may be unfamiliar. The notes thatfollow contain advice specifically related to Naim equipmentas well as more general warnings about the use of domesticaudio products. Please read them carefully.Your Naim hi-fi system can be damaged by lightning andshould be turned off and disconnected from the mains whenthere is risk of lightning strike. For complete protection allmains plugs and any aerial cables should be disconnectedwhen not in use.3.1 Siting The Equipment3.6 Problems? In order to reduce the risk of hum audible from theloudspeakers, power supplies and power amplifiersshould be located a reasonable distance away fromother equipment. The maximum separation distance forconnected equipment is that allowed by the standardinterconnect lead.Consumer protection varies from country to country. Inmost territories a retailer must be prepared to take backany equipment he has sold if it cannot be made to worksatisfactorily. A problem may be due to a fault in thesystem or its installation so it is essential to make full useof your dealer’s diagnostic skills. Please contact your localdistributor, or Naim Audio directly, if any difficulties cannotbe resolved. Some Naim equipment is extremely heavy. Check theweight of the equipment prior to lifting and if necessary usemore than one person so that it can be moved safely. Ensurethat your equipment rack or table can easily support theweight and is stable. Some Naim equipment is made in special versions fordifferent territories and this makes it impracticable toarrange international guarantees. Please establish the localguarantee arrangements with your retailer. Contact NaimAudio directly for help and advice if necessary.3.2 Switching OnSource components and power supplies should be switchedon before the power amplifiers. Always switch amplifiers offand wait a minute before connecting or disconnecting anyleads. Always use the power switch on the product ratherthan a mains outlet switch.3.7 Service and UpdatesIt is essential that repairs and updates are only carriedout by an authorised Naim retailer or at the factory byNaim itself. Many components are custom made, testedor matched and appropriate replacements are oftenunobtainable from other sources.A “thump” may be heard from the loudspeakers as poweramplifiers are switched on. This is normal, will not causeany loudspeaker damage and does not point to any faultor problem. A mild “pop” may also be heard shortly afterequipment is switched off.Direct contact to Naim for service or update informationshould be made initially through Customer Services:Tel:Email:3.3 Running InNaim equipment takes a considerable time to run in beforeit performs at its best. The duration varies, but under someconditions the sound may continue to improve for over amonth. Better and more consistent performance will beachieved if the system is left switched on for long periods. It is worth remembering however that equipment leftconnected to the mains can be damaged by lightning. 44 (0)1722 426600info@naimaudio.comPlease quote the product serial number (found on its rearpanel) in all correspondence.3.4 Radio InterferenceIn some circumstances, depending on where you liveand the earthing arrangements in your home, you mayexperience radio frequency interference. Controls onbroadcasting in some territories allow very high levels ofradio frequency radiation and both the choice and exactsiting of equipment may be critical. Susceptibility to radiofrequency interference is related to the wide internalbandwidth necessary for high sound quality. A radiofrequency filter kit is available for some Naim equipment butsound quality will be progressively compromised as moreelements of the kit are fitted.E2

4. SUPERNAIT 2The SUPERNAIT 2 is a very high performance stereo integrated amplifier that combines apreamplifier providing six line-level analogue inputs with a power amplifier rated at 80 Wattsper channel.
