Getting startedChargingSmart Mic is partly charged on delivery. Charge it fullybefore first use.When the power indicatoris redyou haveapproximately 30 minutes remaining streaming time.➋➊14

Pairing hearing instrumentsYour hearing instruments need to be paired once withSmart Mic. After that, the pairing is saved in the hearinginstruments and remembered each time they are turned on.X Ensure that Smart Mic is off: Hold down thebutton until the power indicatoris off. This takesapproximately 6 seconds.X Turn the hearing instruments off and on again:Open and close the battery compartments. If yourhearing instruments do not have a battery compartment,turn them off and on as described in the hearinginstrument's user guide.The hearing instruments are now ready for pairing. Youhave 3 minutes to complete the pairing.16

X Turn on Smart Mic: Hold down thebutton until thepower indicatoris green. This takes approximately3 seconds.The status indicatorflashes yellow.X Place both hearing instruments closeto Smart Mic (maximum distance20 cm or 8 inch). The pairing processstarts automatically.Pairing is finished when the statusindicator is yellow. 17

Pairing your smartphone or music playerYour smartphone (or music player) needs to be paired oncewith Smart Mic. After that, the connection is automaticallyestablished when Smart Mic is turned on and withinoperating distance.X Hold down theand thebutton simultaneouslyuntil the status indicatorflashes blue. This takesapproximately 6 seconds.Smart Mic is now ready for pairing. You have 3 minutesto complete the pairing.X Set your smartphone or music player to "search for otherBluetooth devices". Refer to the device's manual.X On your smartphone or music player, select "Smart Mic"from the list of detected devices.18

X If requested, enter the PIN "0000".Pairing is finished when the status indicatoris blue.Further information Smart Mic can be paired with up to eight Bluetoothdevices. But only one device can be connected at atime. When paired with several devices: Smart Mic will connect to the first device it detects. To switch to another device, deactivate Bluetoothon the device(s) that you do not want to use at themoment. 19

Clear pairingsTo clear all pairings of Smart Mic with smartphones andmusic players:X Turn off Smart Mic: Hold down thebutton untilthe power indicatoris off. This takes approximately6 seconds.X Simultaneously hold down thebutton and thebutton and thebutton for 10 seconds.When the pairings are cleared, the status indicator flashesred. Your hearing instruments remain paired withSmart Mic.20

Daily useTurning on/offTurning on:X Hold down thebutton until the power indicatorgreen. This takes approximately 3 seconds.The status indicatorflashes yellowuntil thehearing instruments are connected.Turning off:X Hold down thebutton until the power indicatoroff. Adjusting the volumeShortly pressorto adjust the volume.The sound from Smart Mic (phone call, speech or music)and the volume of the hearing instruments are adjustedtogether.22

Muting the hearing instrument microphonesHold down thebutton for 3 seconds to mute the hearinginstrument microphones. Only the sound from Smart Mic isplayed in your hearing instruments.Shortly pressto unmute the hearing instruments. 23

➊ Making phone callsPrerequisites: Smart Mic must be connected to asmartphone and it must be worn properly.Wearing Smart Mic properly24

Smart Mic should be worn as illustrated in the picturesfor best possible performance. It is important that themicrophone of Smart Mic is pointing towards your mouth,and that Smart Mic is not covered by clothes etc.Maximum distance: Smartphone — Smart Mic: 10 m (33 ft) Hearing instruments — Smart Mic: 2 m (6.5 ft) 25

Receiving a callYou will hear a ringtone in your hearing instruments. Thestatus indicatorflashes green.X To accept/end the call, shortly pressor accept/endthe call with your smartphone.While you are in a call, the status indicatorisgreen.X To reject a call, hold down thebutton forapproximately 3 seconds.26

Making a callWhen you call someone with your connected smartphone,the call is automatically streamed to your hearinginstruments. While you are in a call, the status indicatoris green.This function is not available while Smart Mic is used as aremote microphone.Further information Voice dialing: When connected to a smartphone,double-pressto activate voice dialing (if supportedby the smartphone). For this kind of connection, Smart Mic uses Bluetooth'sHands-Free Profile (HFP). 27

➋ Listening to musicIf Smart Mic is connected to a music player throughBluetooth, the music will automatically be played in yourhearing instruments. You do not need to operate anythingon Smart Mic.While music is streamed, the status indicatororange.isMaximum distances: Music player — Smart Mic: 10 m (33 ft) Hearing instruments — Smart Mic: 2 m (6.5 ft)28

Starting/stopping musicX Use your smartphone or music player to start/stop themusic.To stop the music, you can also shortly pressSmart Mic.onFurther information For this kind of connection, Smart Mic uses Bluetooth'sAdvanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). If music is streamed from your smartphone, incomingcalls are indicated while music is played. 29

➌ Using as remote microphoneThe remote microphone function does not startautomatically. You have to toggle to the remote microphonemode via thebutton.Wearing Smart Mic properly30

The speaker should wear Smart Mic as illustrated in thepictures for best possible performance. It is important thatthe microphone is pointing towards the speaker's mouth,and that Smart Mic is not covered by clothes etc.Maximum distance: Hearing instruments — Smart Mic: 20 m (66 ft)Turning remote microphone onX Pressfor approximately 3 seconds.The status indicatoris magenta. A confirmationtone is played in your hearing instruments.The remote microphones are turned on. Speech from theperson wearing Smart Mic is streamed directly to yourhearing instruments. 31

Turning remote microphone offX Hold down thebutton for approximately 3 seconds.The status indicatoris blue(connected toa smartphone) or yellow(not connected to asmartphone).Further information When using Smart Mic as a remote microphone there isno connection to the smartphone. Especially incomingcalls are not indicated. Smart Mic has directional microphones, i.e. microphonesthat catch the sound from a certain direction.32

➍ Using as remote controlSmart Mic can also be used as a remote control foryour hearing instruments: You can adjust the volume(refer to the section "Adjusting the volume"), mute thehearing instrument microphones (refer to the section"Muting the hearing instrument microphones") or change tothe next hearing program (see below).Maximum distances: Hearing instruments — Smart Mic: 2 m (6.5 ft)Changing to the next hearing programX Hold down thebutton for approximately 3 seconds.This function is not available while Smart Mic is used as aremote microphone. 33
