Message from Fr. Quinn5th Sunday of EasterHe has risen! He has TRULY risen! What exactly is the Easter season anyway? How is it that wecelebrate fifty full days of Easter, surpassing the forty days of Lent? Can you believe that it is already thefifth Sunday of Easter? The Easter season corresponds beautifully with the change of seasons. Think fora moment the dreary days of April and the feeling that the gloomy days of darkness and cold would notseem to end. How after a long hard winter that the days of sunshine and warm weather seemed like aninfinitely long way away. Think of how you longed for spring to be sprung?! For many there can be timesof seasonal depression where the lack of vitamin D and short days become a bit of a wear on thesoul. One has to be grateful for the rhythm of the liturgical season and the way it pulls us out of our sulkystupor. Easter season above all is the celebration of new life and beginning an entire way of living a newrhythm of life itself. Easter is the glorious celebration of the life of the Baptized. The Mass offers theoption of the sprinkling rite instead of the penitential rite at the beginning of worship. This is purposefuland pragmatic. It reminds us that sin and death do not have the last say. It means that the power of thewater is more potent than the washout of sin. Sadly for many, their existence does not move toward theEaster season. Almost like a loop of sad music set in repeat the life of the unbeliever drowns in thediscord of sin. As Saint Paul says, however, “Where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more.” Or, “Thatwhile we were still sinners, Christ came to die for us.” No longer is Saint Paul going into homes andpulling people out for persecution. Instead, the season of his life changes and he is found by Barnabas inTarsus and, “.he look Saul (Paul) and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch.” Our prayercan be the same in this regard. We pray that our lives are brought somewhere new. We pray thatsomeone will find us to and lead us to a new beginning, a place of refreshment, light and peace. In aword, that we are lead into Easter and Lent is long and far behind us. Resurrexit sicut dixit!Fr. Quinn
