Pastor’s Corner“God goes up with shouts of joy!”Today we celebrate Christ’s Ascension into Heaven. The angels are cheering at His return. Thesouls that were waiting for many years, since the beginning of human history, for Jesus to comeand re-open the way to Heaven, are celebrating too from their new and eternal home.Witness to HopeSt. Paul in the second reading, reminds us that we have been called to a hope. And what is thathope? It is the realisation that we now share in the divinity of Christ; to share the very life of God.It is the assurance that where Christ, the head, has gone, we the body will follow. Right now Jesusis exulted at the right of the Father; we are going to be there with Him!Called to be Missionaries“Why do you stand looking up to heaven?”, the Angels asked the disciples. In other words, they shouldgo back to Jerusalem to continue the work Christ had entrusted to them. Similarly, each time wecome to church, we come to praise and worship God but we do not remain there all day looking atthe Altar. When the priest/deacon sends us out with these words, “Go and announce the gospelof the Lord”, we are challenged to go and do just that! We are called upon to witness to Christ inthe world, in both word and deed. Today’s feast challenges us to go out into the world andproclaim the Good News, to share the joy of the Gospel with everyone; to be Missionary Disciples.Awaiting the Holy SpiritJesus assured His disciples that He would not leave them alone. He promised to send themanother Advocate, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher and Guide. His presence gives us real and true joy; a joy that does not depend on what people give, or takeaway from us. It is the Spirit who brings us more and more into contact with Christ and enables usto see the more important things in life. The world needs the Holy Spirit now more than ever!Come, Oh Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of the faithful, and enkindle in us the fire of Your love!New PositionsI am happy to announce that we have now hired two new people in the parish office to fill theroles of “Evangelization Coordinator” and “Communications Coordinator.” These key positionswill help in the fulfillment of our parish mission, by helping parishioners encounter Christ andmaking them into Missionary Disciples! Our new Communication Coordinator is Jeremy Eckert.
