History19731981The College of Medicine andDentistry of New Jersey Boardof Trustees approved a conceptdocument for the establishmentof the CMDNJ-School of AlliedHealth Professions (CMDNJSAHP).To better reflect its broadenedscope, the SAHP becamethe CMDNJ-School of HealthRelated Professions.1976The document was approved bythe New Jersey Department ofHigher Education and the Schoolbecame a separate entity withinthe University offering elevencertificate programs on theNewark Campus.1987The School applied to theNew Jersey Board of HigherEducation to seek degreegranting authority.

2013The New Jersey Medical andHealth Sciences EducationRestructuring Act went intoeffect, integrating Rutgers, TheState University of New Jersey,with all units of the Universityof Medicine and Dentistry ofNew Jersey (UMDNJ), exceptUniversity Hospital in Newarkand the School of OsteopathicMedicine in Stratford.1988The School attained approvaland initiated a B.S. in ClinicalLaboratory Sciences withnine collaborating public andindependent colleges.1992The Flexibility Legislation of 1992enabled the University to extendits degree granting authorityto include all undergraduateprograms.Currently, over 1700 full and part-time students are enrolled in the RutgersSchool of Health Professions. The School offers educational programs onlineand across four Rutgers campuses: Health Sciences at Newark, Piscataway,Scotch Plains, and Stratford. In addition, the School offers non-matriculatedcourses and certificate programs through the Center for Advanced andContinuing Education.Today

-We OfferSHP offers programs at the associate, bachelors, masters and doctoral levels and in locations in Northern, Central,and Southern New Jersey. Depending on the program of study, courses are offered in the fall, spring, andsummer, with the option of an in-person, online or a hybrid format. The online course delivery method allowsaccess 24/7 access to course content. Mode of instruction is asynchronous, although some courses offer livevideo conferencing that is recorded for future reference. All students regardless of program are required to haveaccess to internet services, along with web-browsing, email, word processing and statistical analysis capabilities.The University does not provide these services, but does provide all matriculants with an e-mail address andaccess to its network, including the Rutgers Virtual Library with full-text research databases and the studentBanner web system.aduate ProgramsThe School of Health Professions offers a wide-range ofundergraduate programs for students interested in developing acareer in the allied health fields. A minimum of 88 to 90 credits of pre-professionalbasic science and general education course requirements are completedbefore entering the program. The program is primarily designed for studentsseeking their first baccalaureate degree.
