LexisNexis PCLaw Installation & Upgrade GuideRelease: 13.0Before installing the softwareBefore installing any PCLaw software:nRead the installation guide thoroughly.nReview and/or print the checklist provided to assist you in successfully completing the installation.nCheck each item off the checklist as it is completed through completion of the installation procedure.Define the Host EnvironmentBefore installing the software, it is necessary to create a healthy environment to host the LexisNexis PCLawsoftware. At this stage, decisions include determining the server, the operating system and database softwareto use, how powerful the server must be, the appropriate amount of disk space, and whether the network iscapable of handling the anticipated traffic.Operating SystemPCLaw supports the Microsoft operating system. For supported versions, see PCLaw Operating SystemRequirements. It is critical that the operating system used to host LexisNexis PCLaw is a supported orcompatible operating system.Choose a DatabaseLexisNexis supports two database models, SQL and CTree. If SQL is selected, PCLaw supports several differentversions, and each one should be useable on any of the supported operating systems. See PCLaw DatabaseRequirements for additional information.Checklist Compliance and AssistanceIt is pertinent that each item in the checklist be reviewed and completed prior to attempting to install anyPCLaw software. Itscans the workstation and is used to either install a new installation of LexisNexis PCLaw or update an existinginstallation.Access to the Installer is via your firm's Product Keys/Entitlement email and is used to download the latestversion of the PCLaw application software for new releases, service packs, and/or hot fixes.WarningAlthough the Installer can be run more than once, if it is stopped before completion, it must be restarted fromthe beginning.Before you begin: Ensure you have the firm's Product Keys/Entitlement email.Download the installer1. Ensure that your firm has an active Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP).2. Install the PCLaw Link as a Windows service.3. Enable the Mobility feature for your entire firm.4. Enable the Mobility feature for each PCLaw user who will use Mobility.5. Download and install the LexisNexis Mobility Access Manager.6. Ensure that user passwords meet the strong password requirements described in the PCLaw Help file.NoteUsers without a strong password will be prompted to change their password the first time they attemptto log in to the Mobility web site.7. The utility is available on the Windows Start menu.NoteIf the PCLaw database is not on the same machine where the LexisNexis Mobility Access Manager is beinginstalled, PCLaw must be configured to access its database using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path.1. On the Windows Start menu, go to Start All Programs LexisNexis PCLaw Utilities Configure Link to Run as Windows Services.The Install PCLaw Link as Windows Services screen opens.2.
