12 Installation Steps to Ensure Optimization of ODI 12cThe 12c version of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) has a lot of new features and changes. Change is something that’salways expected in any new version — and the installation of the full version of ODI 12c is no exception.The two parts of ODI that are most used are the agent and the Studio. To get both of these you essentially haveto install ODI 12c twice. The ‘Standalone’ version and the ‘Enterprise’ version are both needed for the ability touse both the agent and the Studio. The good news is the Repository Creation Utility (RCU) has not changed verymuch.GETTING STARTEDSTEP ONEThe first step in getting started in your installation is to ensure you have downloaded the correct version of Java(JDK 8u51 is a minimum requirement). The ODI software also needs to be downloaded, to include the RCU, MSSQL JDBC drivers (if connecting to MS SQL). The Knowledge Modules (KMs) patches are needed for Essbase andPlanning if you plan on connecting to them. Lastly, you’ll need a relational database SA user or SYS user (youmay also need the DBA to type in the password for you).STEP TWORun the ‘Infrastructure Installer.’ This will lay all the binaries.Note: It is here that you will choose your ‘Oracle home,’ you will need to remember this location for laterin the installation process.PICTURE RESULTS.

12 Installation Steps to Ensure Optimization of ODI 12cSTEP THREEThe rest is a basic type of install (Next Next Install) and should be rather quick.STEP FOURNow you can run the ‘ODI Installer.’ Just like the ‘Infrastructure Installer,’ the ‘ODI Installer’ runs via a CMD linethat starts by running a .jar file. The first time through, you will need to choose the ‘Oracle Home’ you justcreated and the ‘Standalone Installation’ option —everything else is basic Oracle settings.STEP FIVEYou’ll need to run the ‘Infrastructure Installer’ again to lay all the binaries for the Agent.You will need to select another ‘Oracle home’ (and you will need to remember this location as well).Everything else should be quick.STEP SIXNow you can run the ‘ODI Installer.’ This time through you will need to choose the appropriate ‘Oracle Home’ thatyou just created with the ‘Enterprise Installation’ option.STEP SEVENNext, run the RCU. It is located in the ‘oracle common’ folder in the ‘bin’ directory (‘Oracle home’\oraclecommon\bin) that was just created. We will be running the file ‘rcu.bat,’ using ‘Administrator’ privileges.You’ll see familiar screens, but, be careful, they have different options.PICTURE RESULTS.

This will be different in Microsoft than in Oracle, but it hasn’tchanged from ODI 11. You will need the typical connection information that is required for each. This is whereyou will need to input the SA/sys user and password that your DBA will have to give you. If you get an error aboutnon-AL32UTF8, when you click (Next) to continue, you can click the ‘Ignore’ button, but only if you are usingLatin alphabets, such as English. If you are using a different alphabet, refer to your DBA to answer this question.STEP TENThe next screen is where you’ll understand why we have to have the elevated database permissions. The installercreates schemas in both MS and Oracle relational databases. You need to choose all the options under the‘Oracle Data Integrator’ option and any options above that auto-select. You may want to change the prefix tosomething simple such as ‘ODI1.’STEP ELEVENAfter you click ‘Next’ and all the green check marks, click ‘OK’ again. Then, you will get to the ‘SchemaPasswords’ page. You can get granular here and put a password for each schema, or you can select the ‘Use samepasswords for all schemas’ option. Then Click ‘Next.’STEP TWELVENow you can type in the ‘Supervisor’ password (SUNOPSIS). Use a ‘D’ for development, and ‘WORKREP1’ asstandards. When you click ‘Next,’ the hard part is now over. Go to the ‘Summary Screen,’ click ‘Create,’ and waituntil you see ‘Success.’Now you can configure your ODI Studio, which has not changed in the new version. You also have the ability tocreate a WebLogic ODI Agent service using the second ‘Oracle Home.’ If you’ve downloaded the KBs for Planningand Essbase, you can import them after the ODI Studio has been configured.PICTURE RESULTS.
