Stop in by yourself, with a friend, group or the whole family. Choose from a wide variety of ceramics. Paints provided. Echo Echo is a stainless steal sculpture that stands 34-feet tall. This public art piece is the center of festivals held on 13th Street. Echo was gifted to the city. Central Iowa Art Association Freedom Mural Fisher Community Center Implemented by Beau Ragland, a 2015 MHS graduate. They offer hand-crafted gift items, antiques, home-grown dried flowers, apples, pumpkins, gourds, squash, caramel apples and authentic cider-making. The Big Treehouse 2370 Shady Oaks Road, 641-752-2946 bigtreehouse.net/treehouse.html This 6-story, 12-level hobby of its creator features music, sound effects, and a spiral stairway. It is located at Shady Oaks Campground, a Lincoln Highway landmark since 1925. Call to schedule a tour June to mid-October. Fisher Art Gallery The Gallery houses an outstanding collection of original Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings including Degas, Utrillo, Pissarro, Cassatt, Vuillard and more. Docent tours available by appointment. Ceramic Study Collection In the early 1970’s, the collection was amassed under the guidance of Gary Eason Eige. Top ceramic artists and scholars recognize it as one of the finest collections of its kind in the nation. Sculptures Collection Sculptures grace the grounds of the Fisher Community Center. The signature piece is Christian Petersen’s final work, “Dedication to the Future,” located in a beautiful fountain setting on the grounds. Binford House Disc Golf National Register of Historic Places 110 North 2nd Avenue, 641-753-5450 Built in 1874, this beautifully preserved Italianate-style home includes a curved cherry stairway, Italian marble fireplace and walnut built-in bookshelves. Tours and meals available by appointment. English tea parties available upon request. 402 Woodland Street, 641-754-5715 (inside Riverview Park) This 18-hole disc golf course is complete with concrete tee boxes, challenging holes and water hazards. Built in 2012, the course is sure to please all skill levels. Dog Park 402 Woodland Street, 641-754-5715 Dog Parks are playgrounds for dogs. Iowa Lincoln Highway Association 1301 South 6th Street, 641-751-8612 A local resident, Joe Latham, flew this F-4 on Sept. 14, 1966 over North Vietnam on his 45th mission. In Marshall County, it goes through the cities of LeGrand, Marshalltown, LaMoille and State Center. Freedom Rock Iowa River Brewing Company 1301 South 6th Street The artist, Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II, is in the process of painting a freedom rock in all 99 counties in the state of Iowa. Nature Playscape The outdoor playscape is an ideal place for families to swing, crawl and experience nature. Enjoy a StoryWalk a great way to encourage physical activity and reading. Observation Tower & Trails Hiking trails provide access to 160 acres of nature trails through forests, wetlands, prairies and crop fields. Hike to the highest elevation point of Grimes Farm: 30’ observation tower. Iowa Veterans Home North 13th Street and Summit, 641-752-1501 ivh.iowa.gov The Iowa Veteran’s Home opened its doors to Iowa veterans and their spouses in 1887. The beautifully landscaped grounds include memorials for veterans of all wars. The art, memorials and sculptures are open to the public for viewing. IVCCD Orpheum Theater 220 East Main Street, 641-844-5921 orpheumcenter.com The renovated 1949 RKO Orpheum Theater houses a 152 seat movie theater, a gallery and exhibit space featuring a permanent collection that celebrates Iowans in entertainment. Marshall County Courthouse Henry Anson Statue 1 East Main Street, 641-754-6330 co.marshall.ia.us For Marshalltown’s 150th anniversary in 2003, a statue of our founder Henry Anson was placed on the courthouse lawn. Cochrane of Chicago who co-designed the State of Iowa Capitol building. It features Lake Woodmere fountains and mans waterfall to delight all ages. The park is open during daylight hours. A citizens committee is working to raise funds to add features to the park.
