2023 Church of the Holy Trinity Annual Parish Meeting The following are the accomplishments of 2022 Stewardship 2023 Report with Kristi Smith Number of Pledges: 49 Total dollar amount of pledges: 272,092 Treasurer’s Report with Lee Carroll 2022 budget highlights 2023 Draft budget Building and Grounds Report with Wilson Carroll We are blessed to report that Holy Trinity's physical plant is in great condition, from foundation to ceiling! The new roof installed over the Parish Hall three years ago continues to pay dividends although we wrestle from time to time with minor water incursions along the edges in a few areas where the flashing or caulking has worked loose. This is all part of ordinary wear and tear and we address those issues whenever they arrive. This year we expanded the copper roof leading into the sacristy to provide greater coverage during rainstorms. We continue to address issues related to the gutters above this area and hope to have them resolved soon. We had to replace two air conditioning compressors last spring due to old age, and we have now signed a regular inspection and maintenance contract with Sharpe Heating and Air which hopefully will help us avoid problems in the future. We are in negotiations with First Presbyterian Church to sell the parking lot which came with the Cashman Building. Hopefully we can finalize that deal the first quarter of this year. At the same time we are considering ways to improve our gravel parking lot across the street to make it nicer and more convenient. The Cashman Building will need more attention this year. We experienced a small catastrophe when a sewer line from upstairs burst and flooded our kitchen area. The damaged ceiling tiles and other debris have been removed and we are waiting to hear back from the insurance adjustor. We expect to be able to replace all of the carpeting in the lobby area, hall and kitchen. This may provide the impetus to do other updating and revisions which are long past due. As Junior Warden I regularly attend to small issues like falling doorknobs, telephone relocations and squeaky hinges. Please let me know if you have any pet peeves or projects you think we need to address! Committee Reports Acolytes: This year we had 8 very devoted acolytes serving faithfully. Holy Trinity is very fortunate to have these young people being eager and willing to serve, but we need new recruits! Being an acolyte in the Episcopal Church is such an important part of our liturgy and offers a special way for our young people to develop their faith. All children and young people who are interested in serving as acolytes are encouraged to do so, beginning at age 7 or whenever they are able to carry the necessary holy objects. I hope all of you enjoy watching our children and young adults grow and serve. Please reach out to either of us if your child would like to participate! Jeb & Melissa Blackburn, Co-sponsors 4

After Lunch Bunch: Every Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 the “After Lunch Bunch” meets in the Chapel for approximately one hour. Everyone is invited to join us. We have a wonderful group and there is a designated leader each week that will present something meaningful that they have read or heard about. We present topics that may be on a specific reading from Sunday’s lectionary or something dealing with Christian life and faith. We have great discussions that are uplifting and informative. Our group keeps us in touch with Christ and our spiritual journeys. We would love to have you join us! - Carol George Altar Guild: The mission of the Altar Guild is to prepare the church and chapel for worship and to acquire and maintain appropriate vestments and paraments, equipment and supplies for the priest and other liturgical leaders to use in worship. The Holy Trinity Altar Guild includes 17 members divided into five teams. Each team serves approximately once a month, with volunteers usually sharing the responsibilities at Christmas, Easter, and funerals. In 2022 the Holy Trinity Altar Guild began the year preparing for two worship services each Sunday and but then switched to one service. This past year we had one wedding and two funerals. The home communion box has not been utilized this past year. Using altar funds, we are in the process of adding a new white chasuble and stole, bible markers, pulpit fall, and a cremation pall. Next, we will be updating our green paraments. We welcome Kathy Conway, Mallory Sawyer, and Marian Richardson to our guild. - Virginia Campbell Children’s Church Ministry During the church service, the children aged 3-6 attend children’s church. They have a bible lesson which corresponds with the scripture of the day. They also have a hand out with the lesson so they can take it home. There are two adult members who rotate Sundays to teach the children. -Carol Horn, coordinator Christmas on the River: This year the ministry put together 87 boxes for a total of 596 mariners. Through the diligent effort of Carol George the ministry received a total of 1160 in donations. The total expense was 1674.00, with the difference being provided by Holy Trinity. Magnolia Marine added 100 mariners to their line, so the river boats are certainly working! After conversation with the SCI chaplain, Tom Rhodes, it was decided to change the contents of the boxes to include non-food items. Each box had the appropriate number of handmade knit caps or scarf, and beautiful handmade cards made by the children of a local daycare and the gifted class at Redwood Elementary School. Every mariner received an individual bag containing personal items such as nail clippers, bandanas, hand warmers, ChapStick and an aluminum flashlight. The boxes also had devotional books, a copy of the Christmas Story, puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles. I want to especially thank the volunteers who put the bags together, then packed the boxes! Tom Rhodes was able to attend the blessing of the boxes held on December 4th at Holy Trinity. Father Sam Godfrey, rector of Christ Episcopal Church is the local SCI Chaplain for this area and coordinated the distribution of the boxes to the various boat companies on December 8th. We thank everyone for the overwhelming support of this ministry. - Marie Cunningham and Carol George, Coordinators Daughters of the King 5

The Daughters of the King is an Order with the primary purpose of prayer, service, and evangelism. We are meeting, in person, in the chapel, once a month, at this point in time. Some members were able to meet with St. Mary’s Daughters for a Christmas project of wrapping socks or warm throw blankets for all of the nursing home residents in Vicksburg. We also assist in Church activities, such as decorating for special services, cooking or assisting with the Turkey Dinner, or Lenten Lunches. As Daughters, we are committed to prayer. The names of the people in need are prayed for daily. If you know anyone who needs special prayers, please contact me and they can be added to our prayer list. If anyone is interested in becoming a Daughter of the King, please call or text Carol George at 601-415-6377. “For His Sake, I am but one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. What I ought to do, by the Grace of God, I will do. Lord what will you have me do?” - For His Service, Carol George, President or the Holy Trinity Chapter Docent Ministry The Docent Ministry at the Church of the Holy Trinity resumed with great enthusiasm after the pandemic. However, 2022 finished slowly due to the low stage of the Mississippi River. We contract with American Queen Voyages and Shore Excursions which includes the American Queen, the American Countess and the American Duchess. From February 25 to July 31, 2022, we accommodated 35 boat tours. We also added 3 private tours including the travel writers, Meridian senior travelers and the YMCA Seniors group. From September 23 to December 31, 2022, we only accommodated six boat tours because 18 were cancelled due to low water on the Mississippi River. However, we had three large private tours: the Antique Club of Jackson, the Colonial Dames of Jackson and the Travel Writer’s guild. Also on Saturday, October 29, the Diocesan ECW met at Holy Trinity with the windows as the featured program. It was a glorious day! The Shore Excursions of the American Queen Voyages pays us 125. per visit. The docent souvenir table is stocked with our beautiful Cookbook, prayer beads, Holy Trinity mugs, notecards, photographs, coloring books and Christmas ornaments of our windows. Many visitors leave donations in addition to purchasing items. As of now, we have 55 American Queen and American Countess tours booked from February 17, 2023 through December 31, 2023. Also, there are several private tours planned. We encourage you to join our team. Our docent volunteers work from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on every tour. We offer a guided tour which most prefer, as well as a self-guided walking tour. Our video is advertised on the boats to prepare visitors for their amazing experience here. Docents know that they are sharing our inspiring, Holy Space with people from all over the world. It is a privilege to be part of this ministry of LOVE. Docents share our story in many creative ways. These wonderful people are: Ray and Lucile Hume Stephen Johnson Bill Martin Karen Moore Josephine Peterson Beverly Rice Donna and Steve Saunders Mitch Sawyer Harry Sharp Garrett Wallace Brenda Hawkins -Brenda Davis Hawkins, Chair, Docent Ministry Episcopal Church Women: The Episcopal Church Women are diverse, multi-talented Christian women serving Christ in our families, parishes, and larger communities. Through prayer, worship, communication, and nurturing, we respond to God’s call to serve. All women of the church are welcome to join. In May Holy Trinity ECW hosted a Warren County ECW gathering at Catfish Row Museum with our speaker being Linda Fondren. Through the proceeds of our annual turkey dinner and ECW dues ( 25), we were able to support our diocesan ECW and the diocesan after school program, Children at Risk, and CPC (donations for seminarians). The ECW provided the shrimp for Lenten lunches and low Sunday. We provided a biscuit and coffee bar Easter morning, crocheted crosses for Mothers on Mother’s Day, treats for Dad on Father’s Day, lunch for the Day of Dialogue, graduation gifts for all graduates and snacks each day of Vacation Bible School. We donated 300 to the Store House Community Food Pantry. The ECW hosted a bridal/baby shower for two of our partitioners, and we hosted the statewide ECW 6

luncheon in October. During Christmas the ECW donated 500 to Good Shepherd and 500 to the Salvation Army. We also sent money to the Sontay family for Christmas. Our "inreach" project this year is the restoration of the rector’s and secretary’s offices. Holy Trinity’s ECW also, supports our church through St Martha’s guild, the Gourmet Girls, and preparing the church for Christmas and Easter with the Alter Guild and Flower Guild. President: Mindy Giambrone Vice President: Virginia Campbell Secretary: Pam Smith Treasurer: Tiffany Austin FLOWER GUILD The Flower Guild is privileged to arrange flowers or greenery for the church every Sunday, except during Lent. The Guild also makes arrangements for baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals, Easter, Christmas, the Bishops’ visit, and other special occasions. In 2022, the Guild arranged flowers for one wedding and two funerals. Flower Guild team members are: Joy Mihalyka, Dorothy Burgos, Nancy Gates, Pam Smith, Cody McElwain, Donna Saunders, Debbie Felt, Jan Cooper, Vicki Abraham, Ruth Anne Bottin and Carol McMillin. We thank Jan Cooper for her years of service, as she retired from the Flower Guild at the end of the year and we welcome Nancy Gates, a new member. Joy Mihalyka serves as the Guild’s treasurer and prepares all the large special orders for flowers, as well as for other supplies. Carol McMillin does the scheduling of the flower donations and the work schedule for the Guild’s teams. Parishioners and others are invited to donate flowers to the Glory of God and to remember, honor, and celebrate loved ones. Altar Flowers are 80.00; flowers for the Dent Memorial Table and the baptismal font are 40.00. Anyone interested in joining the Flower Guild should contact Joy Mihalyka or Carol McMillin. New members are always welcome. Carol McMillin For the Flower Guild LIGHTS TO THE WORLD: Restoring and Preserving the Memorial Windows in the Church of the Holy Trinity The campaign has been a success thanks to you plus a multitude of generous gifts from former members, descendants of those memorialized, friends in the community, memorials and some surprise gifts! Our goal was to raise 350,000 to cover the 300,000 contract with Pearl River Glass to do the restoration work and replace the protective coverings. Plus, 50,000 for campaign expenses, unexpected expenses, new baptistry lighting, minor landscape changes, memorial plaques, historic displays in the parish house, etc. Through the end of 2022, we have spent 274,668. Included in this total is 20,000 extra to restore the Hope window. This price was negotiated after several more months of work were required on Hope than originally thought. Additionally, the new lighting for the baptistry was 14,000. Our balance due to Pearl River Glass once the final two windows are completed is 60,000. Now for the good news about our funds! Through December 31, 2022 we have received a total of 344,986, and we still have 80,000 in pledges due to come in. These pledges due are not necessarily behind . . . remember, this is a three-year campaign, and payments could be spread out through June 2024. So, it’s not too late to join in if you haven’t already. We have been assured by our treasurer and the vestry that any residual campaign monies will be held specifically for maintenance and repairs of the memorial windows so that a campaign and restoration project on this scale will hopefully not be necessary again. A huge thank you to Steve Saunders for his diligence and dedication in leading and overseeing the restoration work, negotiating where needed and keeping everyone on task. - Bobbie Marascalco Campaign Chair 7

Music Ministry Report with Dorothy Kenna Brasfield Choir Church of the Holy Trinity is known for our strong, classical music program. Under the musical leadership of Dorothy Kenna Brasfield, our choir comprises 11 members who gather regularly for rehearsal (Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings) and performance. We welcome our new member, Caroline Birchett. In addition to leading our choir, our organist and music director works closely with the rector in planning our services and musical activities. She also books musicians for special service, acquires choral music and maintains the choir’s music library which is quite extensive. She also supervises maintenance of our church organ, piano, tympani and hand bells. She serves as the creative spark behind our Lenten Fine Arts Series which regularly draws crowds to our sanctuary to hear live music and other presentations and stay afterwards to enjoy gumbo lunch. Covid has restricted these programs for the last year; however, this year we only had two. Once a year, Holy Trinity hosts the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in their traditional concert (Mozart by Candlelight). This concert is sponsored by the Four Seasons of the Arts and the City of Vicksburg. Dorothy, volunteers from the Holy Trinity Choir and church staff help to facilitate this event. In 2021, Covid caused a reduction in this program, 2022 it saw a return to Holy Trinity, much to a pleasure of those who attended. One of those concerts were in honor of Dorothy Brasfeild and her 38 years of service to Holy Trinity. In 2022, Holy Trinity hired Nick Joslin as Assistant Organist, Choirmaster and Conservatory Director, and will be accepting the role as the full time director this Summer. Conservatory of the Fine Arts The Holy Trinity Conservatory of the Fine Arts offers training in music, voice, and visual arts to children and adults in the Vicksburg, Warren County and outlying areas. The Conservatory is housed on the first floor of the Post Building at 930 South Street where Holy Trinity provides space, utilities, and insurance at no cost as part of our community outreach. Mrs. Dorothy Kenna Brasfield serves as director of the Conservatory. Other instructors include Marie Cunningham (flute), Tammy Luke (strings), Darcie Bishop (Trumpet), Anne Jones(arts), Eleana Reel(voice), and Joanne Ryan (guitar). Due to covid, the conservatory was in recess for most activities in 2022. St. Martha’s Guild St Martha’s Guild is a ministry at Holy Trinity that provides a meal for the family of a loved one, before or after the funeral service. When the services are to be held somewhere other than Vicksburg, St. Martha’s will place a flower arrangement in the church in honor of the loved one on a Sunday chosen by the family. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have prepared and served meals in the past, and we look forward to continuing this ministry in the future. For more information, and if you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please contact Mary Benson at 601-629-2658. Meals were prepared for the families of Billy Aden, William Mathews, and Eva Conway Bobb Taylor. Mary Benson Sunday Servers Ministry: Every Sunday we have devoted parishioners that are lovingly giving their time to assist during the Sunday Services. We especially need more ushers and vergers. Any new servers will receive training. We try to schedule people once a month. This is an essential ministry of the Church. Please prayerfully think about joining this ministry. If you are interested, please call or text Carol George at 601-415-6377. Carol George 8

Turkey Dinner Dine-in came back this year!! We donated and delivered 25 meals to the Vicksburg Police Department and 12 to the Central Fire Department. Our profit was a little over 7000. Thank you to all who bought tickets, sold tickets, and donated to the purchase of the turkey. Last but certainly not least, a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers and helpers. Turkey Dinner could not happen without YOU!! -Gobble Gobble, Logan and Jim Peay UTO (United Thank Offering): The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. This daily discipline of PRAYER and THANKSGIVING was established by the women of the church in the late 1880’s. Through UTO, individuals are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. UTO encourages people to notice the good things that happen each day, give thanks to God for those blessings and make an offering for each blessing using a UTO Blue Box. UTO is entrusted to receive the offerings, and to distribute the 100% of what is collected to support innovative mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion. Notice the good things that happen each day. Give thanks to God for your blessings. Make an offering for each blessing. Every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar offered in thanks through United Thank Offering is given to God’s mission in the world. UTO disperses every penny offered into grants. Every coin and bill transforms lives in the United States and around the world. Your blessings become blessings for others. The UTO gift to National UTO from the Church of the Holy Trinity in 2022 was 1,422.00. – “Care of Creation: Turning love into action by caring for God’s creation to protect the most vulnerable—who will bear the largest burden of pollution and climate change—through justice, advocacy, environmental reparations, or the development of formation materials. - Brenda Davis Hawkins, Diocese of Mississippi, UTO Coordinator You are appreciated, needed and wanted.
