2021 CDPHE WRESTLING VARIANCESWHEN PRACTICING All practice shall occur with no more than 25 student-athletes in the gym. Personnel should be kept to essential workers only. Stay at least six feet apart from other players when not involved in a physicalactivity. Modify drills or activities to limit/reduce potential violations of social distancingrequirements. Work within pods or small groups to limit the contact betweenplayers. Practice partners must stay the same for the week. Eliminate high fives, huddles, and reduce intimate team meetings. Coaches shouldavoid a pre/post practice organizational (all levels) meetings. Coaches may meetbriefly with their specific team, but as much logistical communication/informationthat can be shared via email or website is ideal. Coaches and managers should use hand whistles as opposed to regular whistleswhen possible. Avoid touching your face after any wrestling practice. Wash your hands promptly ifyou have touched your eyes, nose or mouth. Do not share food, drinks, towels, or personal equipment. Equipment is wiped down after each “pod” is finished School districts must have appropriate cleaning supplies on hand Practices limited to eight hours a week. Remain apart from other players when taking a break. Keep water bottles spacedaway from each other. Players should provide their own water bottles and handsanitizer, and should use it every time they have a break. Everyone inside the gym is required to wear a mask at all times EXCEPT playeractively participation on the mat. Masked individuals include: non-active players,managers, and coaches. Students shall wear their own workout clothing (do not share clothing), andindividual clothing/towels must be washed and cleaned after every workout. Wrestling mats to be disinfected prior to the start of each practice and at theconclusion of each practice.MODIFIED REGULAR SEASON Limit travel and schedule to eliminate overnight stays when possible. Geographicaland regional competition is strongly encouraged. Wrestling mats are to be disinfected prior to competition and at the conclusion ofeach dual meet. To maintain social distancing, weigh-ins for local teams must be done and certifiedat home high school prior to arrival at host site. Official weight sheet with coachsignature must be provided to host school upon arrival along with Covid SymptomTracker sheet(s). Duals (2), Tri’s (3), Quad’s (4) only, no multi-team tournaments. Regular season meets are limited to four (4) teams in attendance. Regular season meets are limited to twenty-five (25) athletes in the competitive gymat one time.3

Two teams may dual (25 athletes) and maximum of two non-competing teams mustbe housed as individual teams separate from each other outside of the competitivegym.Wrestling mats are to be disinfected at the conclusion of each dual meet before thetwo non-competing teams enter the competition space for the next dual meet.Everyone inside the gym is required to wear a mask at all times EXCEPT playeractively participation on the mat. Masked individuals include: non-active players,managers, and coaches.Wrestlers may remove their face covering after checking in at the scorer’s table andattaching their ankle band (if applicable). The coach in either the corner or on thebench may hold the face covering during the match. At the conclusion of thematch, the wrestler must immediately replace the face covering.Officials must always wear a face covering at the hosting site of an event, includingwhen arriving, departing, and during all other normal duties both on and off the mat.While conducting matches, officials should wear a face covering that covers theirmouth and nose. This can be a mask, gaiter, shield or combination.The official shall conduct the coin toss and sportsmanship reminder with the headcoach of each team in a socially distant manner.An electronic whistle is recommended. Traditional whistles may be used, but mustbe covered while on the mat. Traditional whistles should be cleaned regularly duringand after each event.Officials should never touch the wrestlers and should always maintain a safedistance from the wrestlers.At the conclusion of a match, the official will instruct the winning wrestler to raisehis/her hand while also raising his/her own hand with the same-colored wrist band.Officials must use hand sanitizer should be used between matches. Disposablegloves may be worn if they are replaced in between matches.MODIFIED POST SEASON FORMAT Regional tournaments must be two-day events. 112 student-athletes mayparticipate on day one, weight classes 106 thru 145 (7). 112 student-athletes mayparticipate on day two, weight classes 152 thru 285 (7). Maximum of 24 student-athletes on the competition floor at one time. No consolation bracket until quarterfinals per weight class. To maintain social distancing, weigh-ins will be done two teams at a time. Coacheswill exchange weigh-in sheets, with an official on site as third party and for skincheck documentation. Two student-athletes from each boys region advance to state, four from each girlsregion. CHSAA State Championship will be two single day events. 8-man brackets in eachweight class. One weight class in the arena at a time (24 maximum wrestlers). Weight classescorted out prior to next weight class entering the arena. Wrestling mats are to be disinfected at the conclusion of each round. All regular season officials’ mandates would remain in effect.4

For moreinformation about the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, click here.CHSAA Emergency Action PlanEvery member school is required to create a venue-specific Emergency Action Plan (VEAP) for eachsite that the member school practices and hosts athletic contest. (Please use this template that has beencreated for consistency).5

Sportsmanship Protocol at all CHSAA Contests and Activities1. National Anthem-When the National Anthem is played or the Pledge of Allegiance isrecited, students, fans, coaches and players should stand at attention, remove hatsand face the flag.2. Cheerleaders/Fans/Spectators It is recommended that there be positive cheers only. Only cheerleaders may use megaphones. All patrons must wear shirts and shoes. Face painting is allowed. Cheer and tumbling routines must be in front the your team’s student body. Routinesthat spill onto the area of the opposing team are prohibited. Cheer squads may perform under the basket area outside the free vertical lane linesat all times.3. Banners One cloth or vinyl banner may be used, but must be sanctioned by the gamemanagement, principal, and/or athletic director before the contest. Note: Somefacilities, including venues used for CHSAA playoffs, may not allow any banners.Paper banners are not allowed at CHSAA sponsored playoff events.The words and graphics on banners must be positive: i.e. “beat”, “outscore”,“conquer”, etc.; Negative banners: i.e. “kill”, “maim”, “scalp”, etc., will beconfiscated and may result in no future use of banners. Banners must not block the view of others.4. Noisemakers All artificial noisemakers are prohibited. This includes: cowbells, drums, whistles,horns, plastic clackers, thunder sticks, etc. Exception: bleacher kicking is permitted ifthe facility management allows it. An air horn or cannon may be used on the field and only if supervised by a schooldesignee. It should never be disruptive to the playing of the game and used only duringdead ball periods at the end of playing action. No musical instruments and/or amplified music, including drums, shall play while thegame clock is running or when a ‘live-ball’ situation is applicable by rule, whether thegame is indoor or outdoor. This includes fanfares, drum rolls, etc. The only time thegame, once started, is not “in progress” is during a timeout or intermission. Thisapplies to the use of outdoor, in-gym, or in-arena sound systems and public addressannouncements. The announcer is an integral member of game administration and isa reporter of information not necessarily obvious to spectators. Great care must beexercised to see that neither team gains an advantage from announcements over thepublic address system. Announcers are not "play-by-play” announcers. There shall be no amplified instruments at any CHSAA playoff events.5. A list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors can be found in the GameManagement and Sportsmanship Expectation Guide included in your school box.CHEER FOR YOUR TEAM AND NOT AGAINST THE OPPONENT!!6

CDPHE COVID-19Requirements & MandatesColorado High School Activities AssociationThe following requirements are mandated for the implementation of all athletic activities,varsity and sub-varsity, during the 2020-2021 school year. These mandates are subject tochange based on governmental, public, educational, and local health requirements.Individual sports may have stricter standards.The athletic director, and/or their designee, is responsible for ensuring these requirementsand mandates are implemented and adhered to within their school.Updated: January 12, 20218

Pre-Participation PreparationExams/Physicals A current physical must be on file before participating. Physical Examination formscan be found on the SMAC page on CHSAANow. COVID-19-specific questions must be included in the physical screening toinclude:1. Have you tested positive for COVID-19?2. Have you had any known exposure to a COVID-19-positive individual in thepast 14 days?3. Have you been tested for COVID-19?4. Have you had any new onset cough or shortness of breath?5. Have you experienced any recent fever (temp than 100.3º) The most recent medical evidence recommends consideration of cardiactesting if a student-athlete has previously tested positive for COVID-19.Waiver of Liability All students and parents must sign a waiver of COVID-19 liability, which can befound here as part of the Competitor's Brochure. Disinfecting Equipment/SanitizationWash your hands with soap and water (for 20 seconds or longer), or use a handsanitizer if soap and water are not readily available, before going to the court/field.When not actively playing, please adhere to all proper personal protectiveequipment (PPE) and facemask protocols.Clean and wipe down team equipment. When not actively playing, please adhere to all proper personal protectiveequipment (PPE) and facemask protocols. Clean and wipe down team equipment. Equipment must be disinfected before,during, and after each use during your practice/competition. Hand sanitizer must be made available throughout the facility for use before,during, and after workouts. No shared personal equipment, such as water bottles, hats, helmets, bags,gloves, towels,etc. MasksMask restrictions may vary and be stricter depending on the sport. All non-active participants (coaches, volunteers, and managers) must weara mask throughout practice.Social Distancing Restrict your practices to essential personnel only (coaches, volunteers, andmanagers). Appropriate social distancing (minimum 6 feet) must be maintained on all areasused for practice. They must consciously stand at least six feet apart when notparticipating in adrill or activity that requires closer contact, and should avoid confined areas suchas locker rooms and dugouts if social distancing cannot occur.No handshakes, high-fives, fist bumps, or elbow bumps.Intentionally keep water bottles a minimum of 6 feet apart so that social distancingcan occur during breaks.Consider spacing in cafeterias, classrooms, weight rooms, athletic trainingrooms/locker rooms, hallways, and other on-campus venues.Keep athletes together in small groups with dedicated coaches or staff, and makesure that each group of athletes and coach avoid mixing with other groups as muchas possible.Stagger arrival and drop-off times. Use separate entrances and exits for participants, and essential persons. Require signage to communicate all COVID-19 safety requirements. Scrimmages No interscholastic scrimmages, or foundation games, shall be held during the2020-2021 school year.Event/CompetitionGeneral information Participants, coaches, managers or other team personnel should stay home if theyare sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19.10

Daily ScreeningsIf an individual (student, manager, coach) has a temperature above 100.3 F, or hasa positive response to the Daily Symptom Tracker, that individual must be removedfrom the group and their parent or guardian notified. The Daily Symptom Tracker must be completed for all participants, managers,coaches and officials. The completed Daily Symptom Tracker must be submitted by the coach to theAthletic Director after every contest. In all common areas, seating or standing must be spaced at least six feet apart.Student-athletes must practice social distrancing while on the bench/sidelines, andshould avoid confined areas such as locker rooms and dugouts if social distancingcannot occur.Stagger arrival and drop-off times.Use separate entrances and exits for participants, essential workers, officials,media, etc.At the conclusion of the event, all participants, coaches, spectators, and essentialworkers, must leave the facility immediately.Post signage provided by CHSAA about symptoms and transmission of COVID-19around facilities. Use an electronic payment system instead of cash for tickets, concessions,merchandise, and payment of officials/essential workers.11

Scrimmages No interscholastic scrimmages, or foundation games, shall be held during the2020-2021 school year.Transportation & Travel Transportation is a local school/district decision. Inter- and intrastate travel is a local school/district decision. Out-of-state competition is a local school/district decision.OFFICIALSThe following protocols must be communicated to the contest officials by the school’sathletic director or game manager prior to the contest .General information Athletic directors and game managers should communicate to officials that theyshould stay home if they are sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19.Athletic Director/Game ManagerCall your contest officials at least 24 hours in advance with the specifics of the timeand where to meet the game manager at the contest site. Verify the contest timeand directions to the field or court. Share COVID-19 information per yourmandates. Officials must be included on the Daily Symptom Tracker for that contest. If at all possible, contest officials are to come dressed to officiate. If an official can’tcome dressed, a clean and sanitized dressing room must be available for thecontest officials. Although sanitizers should be provided at the site, encourage contest officials tobring their own personal protective equipment, including hand sanitizer, towels,water, gloves, and snacks. Schools should pay through electronic payment platforms (Arbiterpay). Ifnot, let the official know you will mail the payment. Do not pay with cash or checkonsite. Officials Pregame Conference For outdoor events, provide a private location for officials to conduct a pre-gameconference to cover rules, mechanics, and game situations. The location shouldhave at least 3-5 chairs for comfort. For indoor events or in the event of inclementweather during outdoor events, provide a similar private location that is clean andsanitized for officials to hold a pre-game conference.Disinfecting Equipment/SanitizationContest officials are expected to practice good personal hygiene prior to arriving atthe game site and before entering the court or field. If soap and water is notavailable to a contest official prior to entering a contest facility, then hand sanitizerwill suffice. When not actively officiating, contest officials must adhere to all proper personalprotective equipment (PPE) and facemask protocols and social distancingrequirements. Contest officials must not share their personal equipment, such as towels,water, gloves, masks, whistles, etc.12
