This is why Chemetall continuously develops metalworking solutions to meet increasing customer demands. Combining our high-quality technologies with our longterm proven expertise makes us a valuable partner for many industries around the world. In many industries, the use of metalworking fluids is an essential part of production. They cool and lubricate machine tools so that they cut better and last longer. Today’s demanding mechanical production processes are only feasible with the right use of high-class metalworking technologies. With our many years of experience in the industry and well equipped laboratories operating throughout the world, Chemetall can provide the technical knowledge required to assist customers to select the best metalworking fluids for their operation. Customized solutions Our metalworking fluids have been formulated to meet the diverse demands of the manufacturing industry and its equipment. To meet the individual needs of our customer’s machining processes, Chemetall offers a broad portfolio of technologies that cool and lubricate the work tools and parts while purging chips and other debris from the workpiece. Our products are environmentally compatible and provide a safe working environment for the machine operator.

Quality and experience Successful metalworking begins with a thorough understanding of the process and requirements. This is why all our metalworking programs begin with a complete survey of the operation by one of our technical experts. They evaluate customers‘ processes and make recommendations to improve or enhance production and the final product quality and make sure that our customers will get maximum value from their investment in Chemetall technology. Our expert knowledge and premium support is backed by a fully staffed “coolant management” laboratory with state-of-the-art analytical equipment. Choosing the right coolant for perfect results Every substrate to be machined has its own demands on the lubricating coolant. Our premium technologies for metalworking processes are formulated to meet specific machining tasks and can additionally be equipped with certain product properties, such as increased corrosion protection. Standard problems such as poor part quality, reduced tool life, rancidity, and corrosion can be avoided. The crucial question is the selection of the most appropriate metalworking fluid for each process. Our versatile portfolio of high-performance metalworking technologies is designed for light to heavy duty cutting and machining applications and is suitable for a broad range of substrates such as steel, stainless steel, titanium, cast iron, copper, brass, aluminum, and various alloys. Low consumption rates, extended tool life, reduced maintenance and improved worker hygiene are just a few of the benefits delivered by the Chemetall coolant program. Advantages at a glance: Extended machine tool service life Excellent corrosion protection Versatile product line: from light to heavy duty operations Good cooling and rinsing effect Eco-friendly technologies available (DCHA-free, formaldehyde-free, non-chlorinated)

Chemetall offers a broad technology range for different customer demands. Semi-synthetic fluids A stable blend of mineral oils, corrosion inhibitors and extreme pressure additives which, when added to water, form a translucent micro-emulsion that provides cooling, lubricity and rust protection. Our semi-synthetics technology offers a cleaner metalworking operation in high speed and high pressure machines. Synthetic fluids They enhance system life by providing superior corrosion protection without containing any mineral oil, have excellent high temperature stability and outstanding lubricity wherever required. When added to water, they form a translucent solution that provides cooling, corrosion protection and lubricity. Synthetics offer a cleaner metalworking operation in high temperature machining and grinding operation. Soluble oils A blend of high level mineral oil and custom additives which, when added to water, form a milky emulsion that provides cooling, lubricity and rust protection. Soluble oils can be used in a broad spectrum of applications from light to heavy duty. Your Plus: Exceptional sump life Low level of foaming Reduced formation of water-insoluble residues Increased stability Rejects tramp oils Formulated for hard and soft water situations Multi-metal applications

Increase efficiency by simply changing to expert technologies Chemetall coolants stand out because of their long service life. In just three steps you can benefit from the many advantages to be gained from using our coolant technologies. Step 1: Remove Remove the old emulsion completely from the emulsion tanks and pipe work and thoroughly clean all the containers, conveyor belts, feed screws and other parts of the machinery removing any chips, swarf, deposits and sludge. Step 2: Clean Fill the cutting fluid tank completely with a 3-10% system cleaner. Then add the cutting fluid concentrate to make up 1% of the solution. After pumping this solution through the system for about two hours, the entire solution is then drained off and the system thoroughly flushed with water. If the rinsing water still looks very cloudy, it should be completely drained off and the rinsing process repeated. Add enough cutting fluid concentrate to the final rinse to achieve an approximate 1% emulsion. This rinse solution is then pumped through the system to apply some lubrication and inhibit corrosion before being drained off and disposed. Step 3: Make up new batch Once the cleaning process has been completed, the clean system should then be refilled with fresh coolant. Add the required amount of cutting fluid concentrate to the water. The ideal water hardness level lies between 7 and 15 dH. Chemetall recommends to always use a mixer to ensure the best possible emulsion. Note that the system should never be filled in the reverse order! If there is no mixer at hand, it is possible to fill the clean tank with cold tap water and then slowly add the required amount of cutting fluid concentrate while constantly stirring. This emulsion must never be mixed with other emulsions!

Trust, but verify: The maintenance of the sump is very important. Utilizing prevention methods keeps the coolant at its peak performance – producing quality parts, minimizing contamination, prolonging coolant life and contributing to lower production costs. We all have one goal in mind: keeping the coolant working properly for a long time. Chemetall supports its customers to enhance the service life of their coolants. Furthermore, we provide maintenance and care products such as: Corrosion inhibitor solutions System cleaners High-performance lubricants for machine base slideways Accessories In our modern laboratories around the world we can offer customers comprehensive expert services such as: Regular coolant inspection Measurement of product concentration, nitrite and pH values and other customer-specific data Producing a formal laboratory report and analysis including the following tests: corrosion (chips/filter, test to DIN 51360/2) conductivity water hardness microbial problems caused by bacteria, yeasts & fungi and more. To further enhance coolant service life, please see our maintenance guidelines.

Cutting Emulsion – Water-Miscible Fluids Emulsions (coarse emulsion, macroemulsion) The most common fluids for metalworking are emulsions. An emulsion is made by mixing a concentrate into water, never the other way around. The concentrate consists of a mineral oil and possibly a synthetic ester, along with an emulsifier and other additives .

Mixing of fluids with complex rheology is encountered more and more frequently in industries. Nonetheless, mixing behaviour of such fluids is still poorly understood due to the complexity of their rheological behaviour. This study aims to enhance fundamental understanding of the flow and mixing of rheologically complex fluids such as thixotropic,
