DESIGN MATTERS At Ar mstrong, we take ex tr a care to make sure the best techniques are used to enhance our designs. We carefully deter mine what sur face tex ture, edge treatments and gloss level will bring our f loor s to life, making them as realistic as possible. We spare no detail, whether it’s on our Commercial, Premium, Best or Bet ter produc ts, we make sure all our laminates visually and tex tur ally represent the material they are replicating.
TE X TURE Many types of embossing techniques are used to create the best sur face tex ture for each design. Embossed-in-register (EIR) – Creates a dr amatic level of realism by accentuating the tex ture that is aligned with the design image. Examples include knots, chat ter mar k s, wood gr ain and tile grout lines. Overall (OT) – Tex ture is applied over the entire sur face enhancing the design. The tex ture does not align to the design image. Hand-scraped (HST) – Consists of a sof t to heav y hand-scr aped wood ef fec t, of ten with chat ter mar k s, depending on the design. No sur face texture (NT) ENDS & EDGES The end and edge on an individual plank gives a room that special touch. Pressed End/Pressed Edge (PEPE) – This at tribute uses a slower, precise technique that sof tly presses down the edges of the plank . The edge ef fec t is subtle and of fer s a premium look . Micro End/Micro Edge (MEME) – A small-cut bevel is created to delineate each plank when installed nex t to each other. The bevel is small enough to enhance the edge and the end of the plank , but not large enough to collec t dir t or dust. Square End/Square Edge (SESE) – No bevel on the ends and edges of a plank . This creates the look of a for mal sanded f loor or grouted stone and tile. GLOSS The level of gloss on a f loor is what gives it the “wow” fac tor. Each gloss is chosen to enrich and feature the design image. Low Lustre (LLG) – A smooth sheen gloss that enhances the design image. Low (LG) – A low gloss that replicates the look of oil-r ubbed hardwood or natur al stone. Medium (MG) – A mid-gloss that is in between our low gloss and piano gloss. Piano (PG) – A high gloss for mal f inish that shines.
