Kindergarten ELA Common Core Standards Pacing GuideThe JCPS English/Language Arts pacing guides were developed to address the needs of teachers and administrators withinthe county. The pacing guides are intended to help teachers make the best use of planning and instructional time, ensure allobjectives are appropriately covered, and provide critical instructional continuity for students transferring within the district.Teachers representing each school were asked to work together as a team to determine when each objective should beIntroduced, Reviewed, or Assessed.Introduced (I)Reviewed (RV)Assessed (A)Intensive/focused instruction; not necessarily the first or only time theconcept is discussed.Occurs after objective has been introduced. May be a simple referencewhich naturally occurs within a particular text or lesson, or an explicit reteaching. The level of review necessary should be based on teacher’sunderstanding of student needs, and data collected throughassessments.Assessment is summative and formative; formal and informal. It shouldbe present from the time an objective is introduced and used to informinstruction.Teachers developing the pacing guides made decisions on when to introduce, review, and assess objects based on bestpractice recommendations and a practical understanding of ELA instruction. Notes were added as determined by the gradelevel team.JCPS ELA Pacing Guide: Kindergarten
