Chapter 1: The Secret Door to Success"So the people shouted when the priestsblew with the trumpets; and it came topass, when the people heard the sound ofthe trumpet, and the people shouted with agreat shout, that the wall fell down flat, sothat the people went up into the city, everyman straight before him, and they took thecity." Joshua 6:20A successful man is always asked - "Whatis the secret of your success?"People never ask a man who is a failure,"What is the secret of your failure?" It isquite easy to see and they are notinterested.People all want to know how to open thesecret door to success.

For each man there is success, but itseems to be behind a door or wall. In theBible reading, we have heard the wonderfulstory of the falling of the walls of Jericho.Of course all biblical stories have ametaphysical interpretation. We will talk now about your wall of Jericho:the wall separating you from success.Nearly everyone has built a wall around hisown Jericho. This city you are not able to enter, containsgreat treasures; your divinely designedsuccess, your heart's desire! What kind of wall have you built aroundyour Jericho? Often, it is a wall ofresentment-resentingsomeone,orresenting a situation, shuts off your good.

If you are a failure and resent the successof someone else, you are keeping awayyour own success.I have given the following statement toneutralize envy and resentment. What God has done for others, He nowdoes for me and more.A woman was filled with envy because afriend had received a gift, she made thisstatement, and an exact duplicate of the giftwas given her - plus another present. It was when the children of Israel shouted, that the walls of Jericho fell down. Whenyou make an affirmation of Truth, your wallof Jericho totters.I gave the following statement to a woman:The walls of lack and delay now crumble

away, and I enter my Promised Land, under grace. She had a vivid picture ofstepping over a fallen wall, and receivedthe demonstration of her good, almostimmediately. It is the word of realization which bringsabout a change in your affairs; for wordsand thoughts are a form of radio-activity.Taking an interest in your work, enjoyingwhat you are doing opens the secret doorof success.A number of years ago I went to Californiato speak at the different centers, by way ofthe Panama Canal, and on the boat I met aman named Jim Tully. For years he had been a tramp. He calledhimself The King of the Hoboes.

He was ambitious and picked up aneducation.Hehadavividimaginationandcommenced writing stories about hisexperiences. He dramatized tramp life, he enjoyed whathe was doing, and became a verysuccessful author. I remember one bookcalled "Outside Looking In." It was madeinto a motion pictureHe is now famous and prosperous andlives in Hollywood. What opened the secretdoor to success for Jim Tully?Dramatizing his life - being interested inwhat he was doing, he made the most ofbeing a tramp. On the boat, we all sat at the

captain's table, which gave us a chance totalk.Mrs. Grace Stone was also a passenger onthe boat; she had written the "Bitter Tea ofGeneral Yen," and was going to Hollywoodto have it made into a moving-picture; shehad lived in China and was inspired to writethe book. That is the Secret of Success, to makewhat you are doing interesting to otherpeople. Be interested yourself, and otherswill find you interesting.A good disposition, a smile, often opens thesecret door; the Chinese say, "A manwithout a smiling face, must not open ashop."

The success of a smile was brought out ina French moving-picture in which Chevaliertook the lead, the picture was called, "Witha Smile." One of the characters hadbecome poor, dreary and almost a derelict; He said to Chevalier "What good has myhonesty done me?" Chevalier replied,"Even honesty won't help you, without asmile." So the man changes on the spot, cheers up, and becomes very successful.Living in the past, complaining of yourmisfortunes, builds a thick wall around yourJericho.Talking too much about your affairs, scattering your forces, brings you upagainst a high wall. I knew a man of brainsand ability, who was a complete failure.

He lived with his mother and aunt, and Ifound that every night when he went hometo dinner, he told them all that had takenplace during the day at the office; hediscussed his hopes, his fears, and hisfailures.I said to him, "You scatter your forces bytalking about your affairs. Don't discussyour business with your family. Silence isgolden!"He took my lead. During dinner he refusedto talk about business. His mother and auntwere in despair. They loved to hear allabout everything, but his silence provedgolden! Not long after, he was given a position atone hundred dollars a week, and in a few

years, he had a salary of three hundreddollars a week.Success is not a secret; it is a System. Many people are up against the wall ofdiscouragement. Courage and enduranceare part of the system. We read this in livesof all successful men and women.I had an amusing experience whichbrought this to my notice. I went to amoving picture theatre to meet a friend. While waiting, I stood near a young boy, selling programs. He called to people passing, "Buy acompleteprogramofthepicture, containing photographs of the actors and asketch of their lives."

Most people passed by without buying. Tomy great surprise, he suddenly turned tome, and said - "Say, this ain't no racket fora guy with ambition!"Then he gave a discourse on success. Hesaid, "Most people give up just beforesomething big is coming to them. Asuccessful man never gives up."Of course I was interested and said, "I'llbring you a book the next time I come. It iscalled The Game of Life and How to PlayIt. You will agree with a lot of the ideas."A week or two later I went back with thebook. The girl at the ticket office said to him - "Letme read it, Eddie, while you are selling

programs." The man who took ticketsleaned over to see what it was about."The Game of Life" always gets people'sinterests.I returned to the theatre in about threeweeks, Eddie had gone. He had expandedinto a new job that he liked. His wall ofJericho had crumbled, he had refused to bediscouraged.Only twice, is the word success mentionedin the Bible - both times in the Book ofJoshua."Only be strong and very courageous toobserve to do according to all the law whichMoses, my servant, commanded thee: turnnot from it to the right nor to the left, thatthoumayesthavegoodsuccess

whithersoever thou goest. This book of thelaw shall not depart from thy mouth, butthou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do all that iswritten therein, for then shalt thou make thyway prosperous and thou shalt have goodsuccess. Turn not to the right nor to theleft."The road to success is a straight andnarrow path; it is a road of lovingabsorption, of undivided attention. You attract the things you give a great dealof thought to.So if you give a great deal of thought tolack, you attract lack, if you give a greatdeal of thought to injustice, you attractmore injustice.

Joshua said, "And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with theram's horn, and when ye hear the sound ofthe trumpet, all the people shall shout witha great shout: and the wall of the city shallfall down flat, and the people shall ascendup, every man straight before him."The inner meaning of this story is the powerof the word, your word which dissolvesobstacles, and removes barriers. When the people shouted the walls felldown. We find in folk-lore and fairy stories, whichcome down from legends founded onTruth, the same idea - a word opens a dooror cleaves a rock.

We have it again in the Arabian Night'sStory, "Ali Baba and The Forty Thieves." Isaw it made into a moving picture.Ali Baba has a secret hiding place, hiddensomewhere behind rocks and mountains, the entrance may only be gained byspeaking a secret word. It is "OpenSesame!"Ali Baba faces the mountain and cries"Open Sesame!" and rocks slide apart. It is very inspiring, for it gives you therealization of how YOUR own rocks andbarriers, will part at the right word.So let us take the statement The walls of lack and delay now crumbleaway, and I enter my Promised Land, under grace.

Chapter 2: Bricks Without Straw"There shall no straw be given you, yet yeshall make bricks without straw." Exodus5:18In the 5th chapter of Exodus, we have apicture of everyday life, when giving ametaphysical interpretation. The Children of Israel were in bondage toPharaoh, the cruel taskmaster, ruler ofEgypt. They were kept in slavery, makingbricks, and were hated and despised.Moses had orders from the Lord to deliverhis people from bondage - "Moses andAaron went in and told Pharaoh - Thussaith the Lord God of Israel, Let my peoplego, that they may hold a feast unto me inthe wilderness."

He not only refused to let them go but toldthem he would make their tasks even moredifficult: they must make bricks withoutstraw being provided for them."And the task-masters of the people wentout, and their officers, and they spake tothe people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, Iwill not give you straw.""Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it:yet not ought of your work shall bediminished."It was impossible to make bricks withoutstraw.TheChildrenofIsraelwerecompletely crushed by Pharaoh, they werebeaten for not producing the bricks - Thencame the message from Jehovah.

"Go therefore now, and work; for there shallno straw be given you, yet shall ye deliverthe tale (number) of bricks."Working with Spiritual law they could makebricks without straw, which means toaccomplish the seemingly impossible. How often in life people are confronted withthis situation.Agnes M. Lawson in her "Hints to BibleStudents" says - "The Life in Egypt underforeign oppression is the symbol of manunder the hard taskmasters of Destructivethinking, Pride, Fear, Resentment, Ill-will,etc. The deliverance under Moses is thefreedom man gains from the taskmasters,as he learns the law of life, for we can nevercome under grace, except we first know the

law. The law must be made known in orderto be fulfilled."In the 111th Psalm we read in the finalverse, "The fear of the Lord (law) is thebeginningofWisdom:agoodunderstanding have all they that do hiscommandments:hispraiseendurethforever."Now if we read the word Lord (law) it willgive us the key to the statement. The fear of the law (Karmic law) is thebeginning of wisdom (not the fear of theLord). When we know the whatever we send outcomes back, we begin to be afraid of ourown boomerangs.

I read in a medical journal the followingfacts telling of the Boomerang this greatPharaoh received. It would appear that flesh is indeed heir toa long and ancient line of ills, when, as wasrevealed by Lord Monyahan at a lecture atLeeds, that the Pharaoh of the oppressionsuffered from hardening of the heart in aliteral sense. Lord Monyahan showedsome remarkable photographic slides ofresults of surgical operations a thousandyears before Christ, and among these wasa slide of the actual anatomical remains ofthe Pharaoh of the Oppression."The large vessel springing from the heartwas in such a well-preserved state, as toenable sections of it to be made recentlyfrom the lantern slide. It was impossible to

distinguishbetweentheancientandmodern vessel. Both hearts had beenattacked by Atheroma, a condition in whichcalcium salts are deposited in the walls ofthe vessel, making it rigid and inelastic."Inadequate expanse to the stream of bloodfrom the heart caused the vessel to giveway; with this condition went the mentalchanges that occur with a rigid arterialsystem:Anarrownessofoutlook;restriction and dread of enterprise, a literalhardening of the heart. So Pharaoh's hardness of heart, hardenedhis own heart. This is as true today as it was severalthousand years ago - we are all coming outof the Land of Egypt, out of the House ofBondage.

Your doubts and fears keep you in slavery;you face a situation which seems hopeless. What can you do? It is a case of makingbricks without straw. But remember the words of Jehovah, "Gotherefore now, and work; for there shall nostraw be given you, yet shall ye deliver thetale (number) of bricks."You shall make bricks without straw. Godmakes a way where there is no way!I was told the story of a woman whoneeded money for her rent. It wasnecessary to have it at once, but she knewof no channel, she exhausted everyavenue. However, she was a Truth student, andkept making her affirmations.

Her dog whined and wanted to go out, sheput on his leash and walked down thestreet, in the accustomed direction. However, the dog pulled at his leash andwanted to go in another direction. She followed, and in the middle of theblock, opposite an open park, she lookeddown, and picked up a roll of bills, whichexactly covered rent. She looked for ads, but never found theowner. There were no houses near whereshe found it.The reasoning mind, the intellect, takes thethrone of Pharaoh in your consciousness. It says continually, "It can't be done. What'sthe use!"

Wemustdrownoutthesedrearysuggestions with a vital affirmation! For example take this statement: "Theunexpectedhappens, myseeminglyimpossible good now comes to pass." Thisstops all argument from the army of thealiens (the reasoning mind.)."The unexpected happens!" That is an ideait cannot cope with."Thou hast made me wiser than mineenemies." Your enemy thoughts, yourdoubts, fears and apprehensions!Think of the joy of really being free forever, from the Pharaoh of the oppression. Tohave the idea of security, health, happinessandabundanceestablishedinthe

subconscious. It would mean a life freefrom all limitation! It would be the Kingdom which Jesus Christspoke of, where all things are automaticallyadded unto us. I say automatically addedunto us, because all life is vibration; andwhen we vibrate to success, happiness andabundance, the things which symbolizethese states of consciousness will attachthemselves to us.Feel rich and successful, and suddenly youreceive a large cheque or a beautiful gift.I tell the story showing the working of thislaw. I went to a party where people playedgames, and whoever won, received a gift. The prize was a beautiful fan.

Among those present, was a very richwoman, who had everything. Her namewas Clara. The poorer and resentful onesgot together and whispered: "We hopeClara doesn't get the fan." Of course Clarawon the fan.Shewascarefreeandvibratingtoabundance. Envy and resentment shortcircuit your good and keep away your fans.If you should happen to be resentful andenvious, take the statement: What God hasdone for others He now does for me andmore! Then all the fans and things will come yourway. No man gives to himself but himself, andno man takes away from himself but

himself. The "Game of Life" is a game ofsolitaire; as you change, all conditions willchange. Now to go back to Pharaoh the oppressor;no one loves an oppressor.I remember a friend I had many years ago,her name was Lettie. Her father had plentyof money and supplied her mother andherself with food and clothes, but noluxuries. We went to Art School together, and all thestudents would buy reproductions of the"Winged Victory," "Whister's Mother" orsomething to bring art into their homes. My friend's father called all these things"plunder." He would say, "Don't bring homeany plunder.

So she lived a colorless life without a"WingedVictory"onherbureauor"Whistler's Mother” on the wall.He would say often to my friend and hermother, "When I die, you'll both be well off."One day someone said to Lettie, "Whenare you going abroad?" (all art studentswent abroad.)She replied, cheerfully, "Not 'till Papa dies."So people always look forward to beingfree from lack and oppression.Let us now free ourselves from the tyrantsof negative thinking. We have been slavesto doubts, fears and apprehension and letus be delivered as Moses delivered theChildren of Israel and come out of the Landof Egypt, out of the House of Bondage.

Find the thought which is your greatoppressor; find the "king-pin".In the logging camps in the Spring, the logsare sent down the rivers in great numbers.Sometimes the logs become crossed andcause a jam. The men look for the logcausing the jam (they call it the king-pin),straighten it, and the logs rush down theriver again.MaybeyourKing-Pinisresentment.Resentment holds back your good. The more you resent, the more you willhave to resent; you grow a resentmenttrack in your brain, and your expression willbe one of habitual resentment. You will be avoided and miss the goldenopportunities which await you each day.

I remember a few years ago, the streetswere filled with men selling apples. They got up early to get the good corners.I passed one several times on ParkAvenue. He had the most disagreeableexpression I have ever seen.As people passed he said, "Apples!Apples!" but no one stopped to buy.I invested in an apple and said, "You'llnever sell apples unless you change yourexpression."He replied, "Well that guy over there tookmy corner."I said, "Never mind about the corner, youcan sell apples right here if you'll lookpleasant."

He said, "O.K. lady," and I went on. Thenext day I saw him, his whole expressionhad changed. He was doing a big businessselling apples with a smile. So find your king-pin (you may have morethan one); and your logs of success, happiness and abundance will go rushingdown your river."Go therefore now and work, for there shallno straw be given you, yet ye shall makebricks without straw."

Chapter 3: “And Five of Them WereWise”"And five of them were wise, and five werefoolish. They that were foolish took theirlamps, and took no oil with them." Matt.25:2-3My subject is the parable of the Wise andFoolish Virgins. "And five of them werewise, and five were foolish. They that werefoolish took their lamps, and took no oil withthem. But the wise took oil in their vesselswith their lamps." The parable teaches thattrue prayer means llthings, askinprayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Math. 21:22)."Therefore, I say unto you, what thingssoever ye desire, when ye pray, believe

that ye receive them, and ye shall havethem" (Mark 11:24). In this parable heshows that only those who have preparedfor their good (thereby showing active faith)will bring the manifestation to pass.We might paraphrase the scriptures andsay: When ye pray believe ye have it.When ye pray ACT as if you have alreadyreceived.Armchair faith or rocking chair faith, willnever move mountains. In the armchair, inthe silence, or meditation, you are filledwith the wonder of this Truth, and feel thatyour faith will never waver. You know thatThe Lord is your Shepherd, you shall neverwant. You feel that your God of Plenty will wipeout all burdens of debt or limitations.

Then you leave your armchair and step outinto the arena of Life. It is only what you doin the are

Ali Baba has a secret hiding place, hidden somewhere behind rocks and mountains, the entrance may only be gained by speaking a secret word. It is "Open Sesame!" Ali Baba faces the mountain and cries "Open Sesame!" and rocks slide apart. It is very inspiring, for it gives you the realization
