Whitehorse LabyrinthUpdateBy Mr. BellWe will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 2 to coincide with the Whitehorse Barbeque,to celebrate the opening of our labyrinth. The labyrinth will serve many purposes which include:1. A place to relax, meditate or socialize in a peaceful manner2. Academic research, enhance curriculum3. Grow veggies and herbs for Whitehorse familiesWe would like to keep expanding the labyrinth. In the near future we’re hoping to increase themaze portion, add a seating area to accommodate a classroom and add picnic tables. We’re alsohoping to build a brick path in the labyrinth with the bricks being engraved with the names ofpeople who have contributed 25 or more to the project.If you would like to participate in this expansion, we are currently accepting cash/check donations(put labyrinth on memo line) which will be earmarked for this purpose. We hope everyone has a chance to visit and use the labyrinth in thenear future.WHITEHORSE RUNNERS EXCELL AT CRAZYLEGS RUNThe Whitehorse Crazylegs Team had a great time at this year’s run. There were 17 studentrunners and 10 teachers who all completed the 5 mile race. The students trained hard for 7weeks and the results proved it was worth it. There were 194 runners in the 14 year and underage group for boys and 163 runners in the 14 year and under girl’s group. We had 4 top 50runners in both groups. Our top 50 boys were Alex Cotter (6), Austin Cray (23), John Rottier(32), and Shaun White (50). Other male finishers were Travell Ewing and Dylan Klosky. OurTop 50 Girls were Emily Pederson (20), Rachel Hellrood (27), Hanna Hilgendorf (39) and HaileyHilgendorf (40). We had five 6th grade girls complete the race. They were Paige Corfits, PaigePeterson, Maddie Massmann, Kailey Mael and Katie Feller. Other girls also finishing were BekahSmith and Olivia Russo. It was a very exciting way to celebrate our Spring Running Club. Ourthanks go out to all the teachers who helped at the race and with Running Club this Spring.

The following students were nominated for the American Legion Award, which is given annuallyto an outstanding eighth grade boy and girl based on their qualities of service, honor,leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and courage. These nominees completed a questionnaire thatis then evaluated by a teacher selection committee. Congratulations to all of our 6th Graders who participated in the Wisconsin Senior CenterAnnual Essay Contest! All 6th graders wrote a 300 word or less essay about a person olderthan 50 years in age and whom they had/have a special relationship with! The Symposium was heldat the brand new Wisconsin Institute of Discovery on the campus of the University ofWisconsin. The goal of the symposium was to have students do independent research andshare their findings with others. As they learned at the symposium, discovering somethingnew and exciting in science doesn’t mean anything until it is shared.The Whitehorse students that attended were: Lydia Anderson, Avery Kuhlow, Mary Rottier,Reanna Rasmussen, Daniel Romero and Reid Simon. Lydia shared her research on pheromoneswhile the other students researched and shared the impact of music on memory. Studentsfrom all Madison Middle Schools were there to share their findings.The symposium was a great success and plans for next year are already taking place.

Students can report at usual timeif they cannot get a ride to school at 10:00. Students are asked to dress up, howeverthis is not a formal affair. Young men should wear a dress shirt or something betterthan a t-shirt. Ties are a nice addition, but are not required. Young ladies should wear adress, skirt, or nice pants. Clean jeans are acceptable, sweat suits or sweatpants arenot.Yearbooks are available to purchase ( 15.00) Coat Check Room- The coat check room will be in Ms. Mountford’s room. All studentswill have a grocery bag labeled with your name. This room will be supervised by parents.Students are allowed to store items that they do not want to loose during the dance(ie yearbook, phones, etc.). Be sure to take your bag with you when you leave. There isa gift in the bag for you! Pictures-Students can bring cameras if they want to take pictures. There will be anarea designated for you to take pictures with your friends. Dance Tickets-The cost of this event is 10.00. This will include your Milios lunch,party favors, all the snacks and beverages you would like to eat during the dance, DJ,class gift, and much more. Tickets will go on sale Monday, May 23rd until June 3rd . Youmay purchase them in the office between classes, at lunch or before/after school.
