A marvel of efficiency, itproduces an incredibly high horsepowerper-liter ratio. In addition to the performancebenefits of i-VTEC, the engine also boasts ahigh 11:1 compression ratio, giving you morepower out of every stroke. Balance shaftsand lightweight pistons make for smoothrevving all the way up to an 8,000-rpm redline.Intake and exhaust are unobtrusive whencruising at highway speed, but produce anaggressive, sporty sound at full throttle.

Civic Si Sedan shown with Black Fabric and available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System.2errands INTO ADVENTURESHow you see the world depends on your vantage point. Seated inside the cockpit of theCivic Si, every outing becomes a chance to sharpen your driving skills. The specialred-stitched seats are deeply bolstered to hold you in place during spirited driving. Othercontact points are likewise designed for performance. The steering wheel is wrapped inleather for a positive, tactile feel. The pedals are drilled aluminum. Even the red ambientglow of the gauge cluster is a signal to the enthusiast that the Si was born to run.

Civic Hybrid shown in Magnetic Pearl.POSITIVECHANGEBeing environmentally responsible has never been easier. The Civic Hybrid’s sophisticatedgasoline-electric powertrain helps you save on fuel – with up to 45 mpg1 on the highway. It’salso received Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle7 (AT-PZEV) status – the moststringent emissions standard yet achieved by a gasoline-powered vehicle in the U.S. Butdon’t think of it as a move to austerity. Interior amenities include automatic climate control,a powerful 6-speaker audio system with Honda’s USB Audio Interface6 and power windows, mirrors and door locks. And new for 2009, you can get a Civic Hybrid with an available leathertrimmed interior, leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats and side mirrors.

CHARGEPUREPOWERThe Civic Hybrid employs Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist IMA System, which pairs asuper-efficient 1.3-liter gasoline engine with a lightweight, high-output electric motor. The twowork together seamlessly, so it feels just like a normal, responsive Civic. The IMA System’srecharging function is completely self-sufficient. The vehicle’s powertrain automaticallyrecharges the onboard battery pack so it never needs to be plugged in.The Civic Hybrid’s 4-cylinder engine features torque-enhancing i-VTEC and a dual-point sequential ignitionsystem that fires two spark plugs per cylinder. The engine is mated with a powerful DC electric motor that’sless than 2.5" wide. Power for the motor is stored in a battery pack located behind the rear seat. At only8" thick, it leaves plenty of room in the trunk. To assure its long life, the IMA battery pack comes with an8‑year/80,000-mile limited battery warranty.8STARTINGACCELERATIONCITY CRUISINGHIGHWAYBRAKINGAT A STOPThe Civic Hybrid’s engine usuallyuses the IMA System’s motorto start. If the IMA battery-packcharge is too low or if it’s verycold outside, the system hasa separate battery and startermotor to back it up.Any time the engine needs aburst of power – such as whileaccelerating, passing orclimbing up an incline – theIMA System’s electric motorcan add its torque automaticallyto the engine’s to give youinstant, ample response. At steady speeds below 35 mphon level roads and under lightthrottle, fuel injection can ceaseand the car can be propelledsolely by the electric motor.Engine intake and exhaustvalves stop opening to helpreduce drag.At higher cruising speeds, the vehicle’s efficientgasoline engine providesthe motive power.Low-friction engineeringlets it provide plentyof horsepower while stillsipping fuel. The Hybrid’s IMA System cantap into the kinetic energyproduced by the vehicle whenyou brake. The system’s motorturns itself into a generator, helping to slow the car whileit builds up the energy storedin the batteries.Under most conditions, thegasoline engine automaticallyshuts off when you stop. Liftyour foot off the brake, and theengine restarts automatically. The vehicle’s climate controlsystem continues to operatewhile the engine is off.

IS THE BIGGEST PLUS OF ALLWith its impressive list of standard safety features, the Civic is a prime exampleof Honda’s commitment to providing a high level of occupant protection. In fact, the Civic Sedan received a 5-star frontal crash-test rating from NHTSA.*ADVANCED AIRBAGSFront airbags inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second.Every Civic features dual-stage, dual-threshold frontairbags, front side airbags and side curtain airbags.†The passenger’s front side airbag has an OccupantPosition Detection System (OPDS) to prevent it fromdeploying if a child or small-statured person isdetected in the airbag’s path of deployment.ADVANCED COMPATIBILITY ENGINEERING (ACE )This sophisticated body structure increases theCivic’s impact compatibility with different-sizedvehicles. In frontal collisions, it helps to redirectcrash energy around the rigid passengercompartment, enhancing protection.ABS AND EBDVEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA )TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM 9 (TPMS)Along with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), Civic featuresElectronic Brake Distribution (EBD), which distributesbraking force to each wheel based on dynamic loading ofthe vehicle. The Civic Hybrid, EX-L and Si add Brake Assist, which can sense emergency braking and automaticallyapply full brake force.Standard on EX-L, Hybrid and Si, this systemmonitors such things as individual wheel speed, steering angle and lateral g-force. If it detectsoversteer or understeer it can brake individualwheels and/or reduce engine speed to help restoreyou to your intended path. The Civic’s standard Tire Pressure MonitoringSystem9 (TPMS) continually monitors thepressure in all four tires, and alerts the driverthrough a visual indicator located on thedash if the air pressure in any of the tiresbecomes significantly low.ACTIVE front HEAD RESTRAINTSadvanced seat beltsIMPACT PROTECTIONIn a sufficient rear impact, this system moves the headrestraint upward and forward to reduce the gap betweenthe occupant’s head and the seat head restraint. Thislessens impact forces on the head, neck and spine, helpingto reduce the likelihood of head injuries. In the event of a moderate to severe impact, the front seat-belt automatic tensioning systeminstantly tightens the harnesses to help holdthe driver and front passenger in place. Loadlimiters allow the seat belts to give a little, reducing the load on the occupant’s chest.Ingenious engineering and the liberal use ofhigh-tensile steel throughout the Civic Sedan’sbody structure help create a strong, rigidpassenger safety cell. In addition, all four doorsfeature side-impact beams designed to helpprevent intrusion into the passenger space.*Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov).†Honda reminds you and your passengers to always buckle up. Children 12 and under are safest when properly restrained in the rear seat.Civic EX Sedan shown in Urban Titanium Metallic.

“WE ONLY HAVE ONEA dream is a view of theAND IT WILL BE MADE OFOUR DREAMS.”– SOICHIRO HONDAworld not as it is, but as it could be. For 60years, Honda has encouraged its associates to aim beyond what is currentlypossible. All for the purpose of progressing human mobility. This spirit hasresulted in advances in environmental technology, like the hydrogen fuel cell FCXClarity, that brings us closer to a future filled with blue skies. It guides us as westrive to exceed government safety regulations and has led to industry-changinginnovations on the ground, in the water, and, with the HondaJet, in theair. And it pushes us to use premier race circuits as testing grounds for ourideas. Moving for ward, our minds are open to new ideas, no matter where they come from.Because you never know what will be until you discover what can be. dreams.honda.comCivic EX Sedan shown in Crystal Black Pearl.
