insightThe Passion PrincipleYou may have gotten to a point in yourcareer in which your daily tasks havebecome somewhat standard and regular. After a while it might be easy to getaccustomed to an everyday schedule, and you may find yourselves stuck ina routine that lacks the zeal and drivethat make this occupation so rewarding. This way of thinking could potentiallybecome hazardous to your careers, as yourgoals for self-achievement and helpingprovide families with protection becomesecondary to the daily grind of calls andappointments. It’s important not to letRoger SmithPresident and Chief Executive Officer2 - torch February 2013the passion principleyourselves fall into a pattern like this. It’s important to keep life and momentumin your careers by continuously ignitinga passion that can help you reach everydream, every aspiration, and really takeadvantage of the opportunity LibertyNational offers. We’ve been talking a lot about Branchesmeeting their ‘passion number’ for theyear (the goal amount of total net submitproduction), and there’s a reason it hasthat name. In order to find true successin this career, you must have passion ineverything you do.On a larger scale, providing families withsome financial protection and advancingyour career should spark some seriousfervor and enthusiasm in your workethic. When you truly care about helpingyour customers, and when you truly careabout the impact of your success on youand your family, you’ll find that passiongoes a long way in your overall success. And when you’re passionate about thebig picture, you’ll have more energy inevery aspect of your career. You’ll startcontacting more worksites and morehouseholds; you’ll come to your Mondaymeetings with more gusto; and you’ll stepup your recruiting efforts by approachingpeople you see in line at the grocery store, the waiter/waitresses serving your meal,or store clerks working at the mall. Whenyour professional success and the wellbeing of the customers you serve trulyconcern you, this occupation suddenlybecomes so much more than a simplelivelihood. My point is, this is a careerin which passion is not an option –it’s a necessity. So if you’re on board (and I hope you are),the next step is inciting your inner driveand desire to succeed by getting in theright frame of mind to make your dreamsa reality. Do what you need to do to addthis essential element to your careers andthen get to work on what could be themost fulfilling and lucrative periods ofyour lives. And remember that passion isnot a self-sustaining thing. It’s up to youto ignite the flame and to keep it burning, and the time to ignite that flame is now. This is a career in whichpassion is not an option– it’s a necessity. The great thing about this Company isthat you help yourselves by helping others– both by assisting families in their mostdire hour, and by presenting a fantasticopportunity to those willing to makebetter lives for themselves. How couldyou be anything but passionate about acareer like this? I know that passion is inevery one of you, so set it in motion andset yourselves on the path to reach your‘passion numbers’ and beyond.

12THE LAW OF EMPOWERMENT #From John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership Only secure leaders give power to others. If the leader is able to give power away, the organization will becomemore powerful. Only empowered people can reach their full potential. Maxwell said,“I believe the greatest things happen only when you give others thecredit. That’s the Law of Empowerment in action.”The implementation of Liberty National’s AUM program in 2012 is a perfect example of the Lawof Empowerment. Branch Managers understand their success depends on giving power to theirUnit Managers, and Unit Managers understand their success comes from giving power to theirAUMs. When AUMs give power to their Agents, success results up the line.As each level of management gives power and credit to those they depend upon, the success ofone becomes the success of all, and the entire Branch becomes more powerful.the passion principletorch February 2013 - 9

perspectiveRob GraySenior Vice PresidentPersonal Observation UNLIMITED RecruitingTake personal recruiting PERSONALLY! The immediate impressionyou leave on others in and around your community can be apowerful recruiting force that creates its own momentum. Yourpersonal imprint can be as big and bold as you desire, but it’s gotto be fueled by passion and belief. It’s passion for what we do andWHY we do it – to provide dignity and security for those we insure, while creating real wealth for our families and loved ones. It’s beliefthat the career path you’ve chosen can be just as rewarding and lifechanging to another focused, goal-oriented person. Belief can be avery powerful force, as it provides the framework for all things thatmake us successful.Fueled by belief and guided by your own personal successstory, personal recruiting is the key to building highly energized, motivated, and well-equipped teams, Units, and Branches at LibertyNational. When you’re filled with motivation to offer a life-changingcareer, you have all the courage you need to approach those in yourcommunity about the Opportunity of a Lifetime! Many in today’s workforce have reached a crossroads. They’reexhausted by concerns over their current career path and fearful oflearning a new trade, so they sit and stare directly into the eyes ofthe uncertainty that lies ahead. That’s where we come in! It’s yourresponsibility to offer a compelling alternative to those who want tocontrol their own destiny, but haven’t figured out how yet! After making thousands of personal recruiting interactions,I assure you most people will embrace your candor, insight, and enlightenment. After all, it’s the magnitude of your personalperspective that gets people interested in what you do.Pay it forward!I believe hardworking people really just want to be paid what theyfeel they’re worth – not what someone else tells them they’re worth. It’s got everything to do with self worth, quality of life, being able toleave real wealth behind for loved ones, and ultimately controllingtheir own destiny before someone else does. Some people are bornpoor, but everyone has the opportunity to make sure their childrenand grandchildren are not!At Liberty National, we are ambassadors of an alternative career. The best way to communicate that to others is to educate peopleon what we do and WHY we do it. We’re in the business of changingpeople’s lives! Offering dignity and security to those we protect, while following a career path that allows us to build real wealth forour families, cultivates a deep sense of accomplishment and pride.Who wouldn’t want to offer that same opportunity to others? Getinvolved and get passionate!10 - torch February 2013the passion principleIt’s truly your ability to translate what LNL’s Opportunity of aLifetime has done for you and your family that makes all thedifference! That emotion, if channeled in the right direction,is the most powerful recruiting force you’ll ever need!Personal recruiting is ACTIVE recruiting. We’re approachingpeople with energetic, positive attitudes, who may not beunsatisfied with their current career, but just aren’t earning whatthey know they’re worth! It’s all about getting into the right careervehicle. But before you do, you have to know what your desireddestination is. The best way to determine if a prospective candidateis in the right career vehicle is to ASK! It’s the magnitude of yourengagement and enlightenment that determines how successfulyou are in attracting candidates.Your personal imprint can be as big andbold as you desire, but it’s got to befueled by passion and belief. There are 32 million underemployed Americans in today’s workforce. That’s a LOT of people working jobs for which they’re overskilled and probably not enjoying! These people lead lives of quietdesperation, hoping to cross paths with a new career. It’s our missionto provide the opportunity to those who want to change their lives, while gaining wealth and prosperity.Get engaged! Seek out people who look like they have passion, confidence, and belief! Retail outlets, malls, restaurants, hotels, gyms, social networks, and professional gatherings are great placesto start. Ask each candidate where they see themselves in five years, both professionally and personally, AND if their current career willget them there. If the answer is NO, then you’re up!It’s time to enlighten people on what a great career looks like.Get plugged in and become the center of attention. PersonalObservational Unlimited Recruiting (POUR) is truly limitless. It’s time to make a difference! POUR your heart and soul into itand build your empire!IT’S TIME

Personal Observation RecruitingBy now you know the gist of Personal ObservationRecruiting. However, did you know the possibilities arevirtually UNLIMITED? Think about it.
