This packet provides you with the Advanced Placement (AP) EnglishLiterature and Composition and the College Prep12th Grade English classesrequirement for the SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2018 as well as the listof course supplies you will need for each course next year. Please be advised that youshould pace yourself during the summer months to make sure you are getting thereading done.COURSE SUPPLIES3-Ring Binder. You will be receiving numerous handouts and packets throughout theyear. You may have a folder as well, but you are required to have a binder mainly tomaintain your work in one central locationLined Paper: You should have plenty of paper throughout the year to do writtenassignmentsDividers: Your Binders should be divided into three sections.Pens (Blue/Black) and Pencils: Please, no red ink!Flash Drive: You MUST have the ability to SAVE all formal work done on computerTHE ASSIGNMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS:Students in BOTH AP ENGLISH LITERATURE & COMPOSITION and 12th GradeCollege Prep English w/ Ms. Manne must 1)choose ONE book from either the“Contemporary” or “Classics” list below; 2)read it; & 3)MAKE a BOOKLET with aFRONT, BACK, and INSIDE COVER (SEE MODEL) which will include thefollowing: Title & Author of Book on Front Cover w/ Your Name & Class as well Original, creative design w/ some symbolic reference to a “theme” in thebook on the front cover About the author on the back cover and whether or not you wouldrecommend it A description of a key character or idea, a conflict or major problem, andany questions you would like to ask the author on the left-inside page ofbooklet A description of three of the greatest moments in the book from thebeginning, middle, and end in the right-inside page of booklet

ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENT FOR AP STUDENTS ONLY:Mr. Kennedy’s AP English Literature and Composition class should read ONE ofthe books from the list of CLASSICS READING LIST and ONE from theCONTEMPORARY READING LIST. For the CONTEMPORARY READING LIST,students must do the BOOKLET described above. For the CLASSIC NOVEL,students must keep a FIVE-page DUAL-ENTRY JOURNAL with key quotations,summary, and paraphrasing in the left-hand column and commentary, analysis,and any connection students want to make to the real world in the right-handcolumn.
