Marketing Package for Downtown Holland/Holland Farmers MarketRequest for QualificationsThe Principal Shopping District (PSD), a department of the City of Holland, Michigan, is currently seeking qualifieddesign firms to produce a full marketing package for Downtown Holland and the Holland Farmers Market. Designprojects included in the package are outlined and described in detail below. Downtown Hollandoffers over 100 locally-owned boutiques, shops, galleries, restaurants, and breweries, along with offices for serviceproviders and non-profit organizations, private residences and more. Downtown Holland is also home to familyfriendly special events throughout the year, along with unique cultural attractions and an award-winning farmersmarket. Thus, the PSD’s mission is to increase the awareness and overall appeal of Downtown Holland on a local andnational scale to benefit our stakeholders, while actively working to ensure that all members of our diverse communityfeel welcome and engaged here.Logo Design and Brand Standards ManualDowntown Holland is seeking a new logo and brand standards (presented in the form of a manual) that reflect thefollowing: The vibrancy and uniqueness of our shopping, dining and events destination.The progressive nature and growth of our district as we expand towards the waterfront.Our desire to create a culture where all members of our diverse community feel welcome.Our relationship to the City of Holland and proximity to Hope College.The City of Holland’s brand standards manual was adopted in 2014 and can be provided upon request.Business Cards, Letterhead and EnvelopesThe PSD will require an updated business card template for Downtown Holland staff, along with a custom letterheadand envelope design featuring the new logo and office contact information.Website RedesignThe Downtown Holland website must serve the needs of both the public and stakeholders who are seekinginformation about Downtown Holland. The website is both a marketing tool for promoting Downtown Hollandevents and businesses, along with providing important information related to Downtown Holland policies andprocedures to our stakeholders, including business and property owners, residents and employees.The Downtown Holland website needs to be dynamic, as business and event information changes often. The PSD is seeking a custom-looking website that is ADA compliant, mobile compatible and able to be translated intoother languages using Google Translate. PSD staff must have full access to the Content Manage System in order toeasily update the homepage, all attraction, hotel and business listings, the event calendar and featured upcoming events.In addition, the website must include an online form where members of the public and Downtown stakeholders cansubmit event information that will autofill the event listing in the calendar after review and approval by staff. Staff mustbe able to be easily duplicate events and schedule events to repeat on custom schedules. Staff must be able to uploadPDF’s of forms for user download and provide links to external online forms created in Wufoo. The PSD may also beinterested in the possible development of a mobile app that can be auto-populated using the same CMS as thewebsite.Email Newsletter TemplateThe PSD currently uses Mail Chimp to send a monthly newsletter to members of the public to update them onupcoming event information and business news. A design template for this newsletter should be included in the scopeof the project that staff can program into Mail Chimp once and use to craft the monthly newsletter in an efficientmanner.Annual Calendar of Events Rack CardEach January, the PSD publishes a double-sided promotional rack card featuring information about Downtown Hollandand the full calendar of event for the year. The piece is distributed year round to visitors by Downtown Hollandbusinesses, the Holland Visitors Bureau and State of Michigan Welcome Centers.Summer and Holiday Calendar of Events BrochuresTwice each year, the PSD publishes a double-sided gatefold brochure promoting summer events in DowntownHolland and the Holland Farmers Market, along with holiday events. The pieces are published in May and October,respectively, and are distributed to residents and visitors by Downtown Holland businesses, the Holland VisitorsBureau, State of Michigan Welcome Centers and local elementary schools. Through a partnership with the HollandBoard of Public Works (BPW), the brochures are also mailed with bills sent to BPW customers within the City limits.Shopping and Dining DirectoryThe PSD works with the Holland Visitors Bureau to print a Downtown Holland Shopping and Dining Directory in theform of a tear-off map that is given out to visitors at Downtown Holland businesses, area hotels and the HollandVisitors Center. The Holland Visitors Bureau designs one side of the map, which features the attractions in the greaterHolland area, while the PSD designs the flip side, which features a color-coded map of Downtown Holland businesseswith phone numbers. The map also includes direction from area hotels, parking details and contact information for theDowntown Holland office.3

Holland Farmers Market ProjectsAbout The Holland Farmers MarketThe Holland Farmers Market is located at the Eighth Street Market Place in Downtown Holland and is home to nearly100 vendors throughout the season. We are a producer-focused Market featuring only Michigan-grown produce andMichigan-made goods produced in licensed kitchens. Area farmers offer freshly-picked fruit and vegetables of everyvariety, beautiful bouquets of flowers and plants for home and garden. A wide variety of baked goods (includingbreads, pies and cookies), all natural honey and maple syrup and farm fresh cheese, eggs, and meats are also available,in addition to sweet treats, healthy snacks and much, much more! Our goal is to connect the surrounding communitywith high-quality local food while supporting the livelihoods of our farmers and vendors. Thisinformation is provided in English on one side and in Spanish on the other side. Likewise, the PSD also publishes adouble-sided rack card using the same design template that details which vendors accept which food assistanceprograms at the Market. These cards are distributed year round to visitors by Downtown Holland businesses, theHolland Visitors Bureau, Holland Farmers Market staff, State of Michigan Welcome Centers and organizations thatserve low income individuals in our community.5

A newsletter sign-up form is alsoavailable on the websites if you wish to view our current templates.Photography and VideoDowntown Holland and the Holland Farmers Market have a large photo and video library and will provide highresolution photographs and b-roll as needed for projects. Any photography needs above and beyond what is availablein the photo library must be provided by the designer and completed within the scope of the project quote. The useof stock photography will not be accepted. Exclusive rights to any photographs or videos taken and used for theproject must be transferred to the City of Holland.Print Project SpecificationsAll print design projects must be created in Adobe Creative Suite: Version 13.1 or newer. Files provided toDowntown Holland must be the original (non-flattened) design files so projects can be altered and updated by staff asnecessary for future use. The cost of any licenses for graphics or fonts must be included in the scope of the project andprovided to the City of Holland with the design files at no additional cost. All printing costs will be paid separately bythe City outside the scope of this project.Finished file sizes should be as follows: Rack Card: 4” x 9” Brochures: 4” x 9” Business Cards: 3.5” x 2” Letterhead: Standard Letter Size Envelopes: Standard #10 Envelope Map and Directory: 12” x 18”Website Programming and HostingThe website programming costs must be included in the scope of the project, along with establishing a website host.Hosting fees will be paid separately by the City outside of the scope of the project based on the annual fee included inthe final project quote. The City owns all of the applicable website domains and will continue to pay all annual domainfees separately.6
