July 2020Dear Parents, Guardians, and Young Ladies,Welcome to Academy of Our Lady—The Innovative Highs School of New Orleans! We are excited that you arejoining our Salesian Family! Together we can help our young women develop “the values to live as CatholicChristians, the drive for life-long learning, and the skills to succeed as responsible citizens in society.” (VisionStatement)The Academy will be a place where you grow intellectually and spiritually over the next few years. We ask ouryoung ladies to prepare to open their minds to new and exciting curricula, to find their voice as they grow todiscover who they are called to be, to learn to lead and to enjoy being an integral part of our world-wide Salesianfamily.Every year the students choose a theme that will be used throughout the year. This year the Student Council haschosen the theme: As young Salesians, we are called to be role models of hope and strength in our daily lives as weprepare ourselves for the future. This theme is an excellent expression of our goal to help each young lady at the Academy grow academically, spiritually and socially. Our students are called to be active citizens now so they will be able to take on leadershiproles in the community and business when they are adults. This summer the campus started to get back to normal with summer camp, the enrichment program for incomingstudents and various sports practices. All activities were more or less like our pre-covid time.Covid-19:There are still Covid protocols necessary as we begin the school year. Students who take the bus must wear masks. If a student is sick, they should stay home (regardless of illness)In accordance with the state policy, all Covid cases are reported to the LDH.Social distance will be in place as much as possible.Students who have not been vaccinated should wear a mask.o Solid white, grey, light blue, black or the one sold by student council.o This is subject to change based on federal, state and archdiocesan guidelines.Classrooms will be wiped down twice a day.Bathrooms will be sanitized during the school day and cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day.CASPR in-Duct HVAC system will be installed. The stairs will be one directional.Microwaves will be NOT be available at the start of school. We are planning to resume eating in thecafeteria.Students will NOT be able to leave early from study hall or arrive late. Seniors only will receive this privilegesecond semester.Oschner should be on campus August 11th (book day) to give vaccinations to any student or their familymembers who need it.
