My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,UNABLE toattend Massbecause of healthissues or seclusionfrom thepandemic?Call MEat the Parish Office.I can be very creativein getting you or yourloved one theEucharist! Also, Fr. Paul isflexible in hearingconfessions byappointment for thosenot leaving theirhomes.Jim TokarskyHave you ever had such good communication with a familymember or close friend that you could tell from their mannerismsor mood what they needed without asking them? I think we alldesire a level of communication with others where we can beclearly understood and listened to. It certainly takes quite a bit ofwork to maintain good communication. But, sometimes we are sowrapped up in our own earthly conversations and plans that we failto communicate with our Heavenly Father.God certainly desires to have a mutual relationship in whichHe communicates with us and we communicate with Him on adaily basis. It is certainly easier said than done when it comes tocultivating our relationship with God. Fortunately, our Lordrealizes our efforts, and there are many helps that He sends usalong our way. This weekend we celebrate Word of God Sunday, in whichwe become more aware of how we communicate with ourHeavenly Father through His Word. God speaks to us in manyways, but I would like to concentrate on two primary ways that wecan listen and be receptive to His Word:We first see God’s Word in creation. From the verybeginning of the Bible in the first versus of Genesis, we hear thatGod spoke creation into being by His speaking it into existence.Everything we see in creation can be traced back to God’s Word, and His desire to share His creation with us. It is a wonder that“the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us”.Another way that God speaks to us in His Word is throughthe Scriptures. How many times do we hear Jesus quotingScripture in the Gospels to show us how the prophecies of oldwere fulfilled through Himself? In a way, Jesus encouraged thosearound Him to study, proclaim and understand the Scriptures.Sometimes we are powerfully struck by a sentence – maybe evena word in the Bible that grabs our attention. Every time we attendMass or read the Bible, God is telling us a story that we are meantto benefit from!I would encourage us to collectively read or listen to theWord of God more often, so that we can benefit from the manythings that our Lord wants to communicate with us. I can highlyrecommend “The Bible in a Year” daily Podcast program byFr. Mike Schmitz, in which he attempts to explain God’s love for usthrough reading the Scriptures daily. May we all learn tocommunicate with our Lord Jesus through the gift of His Word.Fr. Paul Schreiner
