E stablished 1981Advanced Test Equipment Rentalswww.atecorp.com 800-404-ATEC (2832)SPI225Smart primary injection test systemSPI225Smart primary injection test system Up to 2000A output Smallest primary injection test system in itsclass First unit on the market to eliminate variaccontrol Output current regulation Designed for switchgear commissioning, circuit breaker, CT commissioning, ground gridand relay testing Software includes thousands of circuit breakerTCC curvesDESCRIPTIONThe SPI225 is the smallest, lightest primary injection test systemdesigned to perform high current testing on switchgear, currenttransformers and ground fault protection systems and a multitude ofother high current testing applications. The Model SPI225 is a high current primary injection test system forall forms of high current testing required in a substation, includingtesting overcurrent relays, circuit breakers, motor overloads andcurrent transformers.FEATURES AND BENEFITSSmart Touch View Interface is a simplified input andcontrol touch screenA key feature of the SPI system is the simplified touch screen input. The STVI touch screen input eliminates the confusing menu systemof other primary injection and circuit breaker test systems. Thetouch screen makes the STVI simple for any technician to use even ifthe technician does not use the STVI on a consistent basis. The SPI system is the FIRST high current test systems to permit a userto type in a predetermined current and the SPI system will generateand regulate the requested high current without preheating thetest sample by pulsing the output current at high currents. The SPIsystem also has the unique ability to turn on at the current zerocrossing every time for any load by automatically adjust the outputfiring angle. This eliminates DC offset for every circuit breaker typeand the need for the user to determine and adjust the firing anglefor different loads and circuit breakers.Automatic Control The SPI system has many unique abilities to assist in testing The user can type a high current setting then the SPI systemAll SPI systems are both fully automated and/or manually controlled. The Smart Touch View Interface “STVI” permits users to manuallycontrol the unit and also perform automated testing. The SPI unitcan also be controlled by a PC for fully automatic testing and reportgeneration.will generate the requested output without additional userintervention Automatically regulate the systems output to the pre-programmed setting Automatically regulate the systems output current to compensateAPPLICATIONfor test sample heating or changing loadUniversal in application, the SPI225 is a high current primaryinjection test unit with the ability to perform high currentcommissioning test as well as test low-voltage molded-case circuitbreakers. A single SPI225 is designed to test low-voltage moldedcase circuit breakers up to a rating of 225A. Deliver the requested current without user intervention.1

SPI225Smart primary injection test systemProtectionFuse, circuit breaker and overload protective devices areincorporated. Temperature sensors provide protection fromoverheating. Emergency stop pushbutton is provided to de-energizeall input power to the test set. Most primary injection system require the user to turn on the systemhigh current then manually adjust the output until the desired testcurrent is set. Once the output is set, the user must still manuallyadjust the output in order to maintain the desired test current. TheSPI system eliminates both of these issues.Manual ControlThe STVI manual controller of the SPI system is sometimes the desiretest method. The SPI system permits an operator to run any of thestandard test required for primary injection as well as low voltagecircuit breakers without the need for a laptop computer.DC Offset EliminationDC offset is a common problem when testing instantaneous tripson low voltage circuit breakers. A standard high current test systemwill commonly cause DC offset in the initial 2 to 4 cycles of anoutput waveform. This DC offset will cause circuit breakers to tripat incorrect current amplitudes therefore providing incorrect results.SPI SoftwareSPI software is the premier software for automated testing, reportgeneration and maintenance record keeping of all primary injectionand low voltage circuit breaker test. These results are then recordedin the Power DB database for archival or report generation. The SPI software is specifically designed for primary injection testingof circuit breakers, relays and other substation equipment. In orderto simplify testing the SPI software is pre-loaded with circuit breakercurves in order to permit the user to verify that the circuit breakerunder test is operating correctly. Since the SPI software has thecurves preloaded the user can test all breaker parameters including:Current DecayWhen performing primary injection testing the test leads or testsample will heat up due to the high currents applied. This willresult in Current Decay unless the operator manually intervenes. This manual intervention can cause inconsistent test results to thedecisions made by the individual operator. Long Time Pick Up Long Time Timing Short Time Pick Up Short Time Timing Instantaneous Pick Up Ground Fault Pick Up Ground Fault TimingThe SPI systems eliminate all these problems by providing a constantcurrent output from the beginning of the waveform until testcompletion.ConstructionThis test set is built for years of trouble-free, reliable operation. Theyfeature rugged instrumentation and controls designed to withstandthe vibration and shock of frequent transportation.Included complex breaker curvesThe SPI software includes report generation for all testing. Thus theuser can not only perform all the primary injection testing requiredbut also generate a report for a end customer or for historicalpurposes.2

Also, to perform an instantaneous triptest, it will provide 2000 A through a typical 225-ampere, moldedcase circuit breaker.Because the magnitude of the output current is determined by theimpedance of the load circuit, the voltage rating must be sufficientto push the desired current through the device under test and theconnecting test leads.Ammeter (digital model)Operating Mode: Memory, ContinuousDigital Display: Autoranging display 5-digitRanges: 1.0000 A to 99.999 kAOverall Ammeter System: Continuous 1% of readingAccuracy: RMS Pulse 1.5% of readingTimer rangeDigital Display: 5-digit Autoranging displayRanges: 0.001 to 99999 seconds0.01 to 99999 cyclesAccuracy: 1% of readingVoltmeter (digital model)Digital Display: 5-digit Autoranging displayRanges: 0.01 to 600.00 VoltsAccuracy: 1% of readingCommunications portEthernet (2), USB, BluetoothDimensions14.2 W x 7.6 H x 12.0 D in.(360 W x 194 H x 305 D mm)4

However, several key components of smart cities have already been well-established, such as smart living, smart governance, smart citizen (people), smart mobility, smart economy, and smart infrastructure (Mohanty, et al., 2016).
