6/20/201921South 40The farmer set out to plow his “south forty” one spring morning. This was animportant job, but listen to how he went about his task.He started early to oil his tractor. Then he found he needed more oil so hewent to get some from the barn.On the way, he noticed the pigs hadn’t been fed. This sent him to the corncrib where he saw some sacks. This reminded him that potatoes weresprouting, so he started for the potato pit.As he passed the woodpile, he remembered his wife wanted some morewood for the house. While he was picking up sticks, he spotted a chickenthat was ailing so he dropped the wood and went to the aid of the chicken. He figured the chicken needed to see the vet, so he got in the truck andstarted for town . . . halfway there, he ran out of gas and walked back home. When evening arrived, the tractor was still in the barn and the “south 40” wasstill unplowed. Poor farmer. He worked hard all day – and yet he didn’taccomplish a single thing.2211
