FYH BALL BEARING UNITSCATALOG. NO. 3300We produce a broad range of mounted bearings from small lightweight units to large heavyduty units to meet a wide variety of industries and applications worldwide. The Ceraball Bearing Series, a revolutionary style of bearing, was started by our uniqueidea of combining the highest grades of ceramic and steel, and now meets various needs inleading Japanese biochemical industries, information technology, aerospace, automotivemanufacturing, and ocean development businesses. This catalog introduces a section of “Ceraball Bearings for special environments”. Webelieve this new line will help to reduce bearing maintenance as well as minimize maintenancecosts and downtime. The contents of this catalogue are subject to change without prior notice. Everypossible effort has been made to ensure that the data listed in this catalog is correct. However, we can not assume responsibility for any errors or omissions. All rights reserved.

1 Structure and featuresFYH Ball Bearing Units are manufactured to exactingstandards comprising grease sealed deep groove ball bearings and housings in various forms. Self-aligning units allowfor easy installation and are supplied with grease nipples inorder to facilitate quick and convenient re-lubrication.1.1 StructureFYH Ball Bearing Units are constructed of hig-h carbonchromium bearing steel and have precision honed raceways and riveted steel cages (Fig. 1.1).Grease nippleOuter ring with spherical outside surfaceGrease holeSlingerSealBall and cageWide inner ringHexagon socket set screwHousing (pillow-type)LLsealseal unitFig. 1.1Structure of ball bearing units (representative example)3

1 Structure and features1 Supreme load capacity and accuracyFYH Ball Bearing Units feature an internal structureidentical to single row deep groove ball bearings andbear significant radial load, as well as a great deal ofaxial load in both directions. The hardened steel ballsexhibit a high degree of “roundness” and the races arehighly polished to accommodate a smoother ride at awide range of speeds.2 Rational self-aligning mechanism and optimal fitFYH Ball Bearing Units have the special ability to selfalign inside the housing because of the spherical shapeof the outer diameter of the bearing insert and the concave shape of the inner diameter of the housing intowhich it fits. This design allows the bearing unit to selfadjust for shaft deviation and thereby eliminate abnormalbearing load. Therefore, the original rated life of thebearing can be guaranteed.Since the spherical outside surface of the bearing isprecision ground and the spherical bore of the housing ismachined by a boring machine with great accuracy, optimal fitting of the bearing and the housing can beobtained, as well as superior aligning performance. The allowable aligning angle of standard ball bearingunits is 3º, while units with covers is 1º.AligningangleFig. 1.2AligningangleAllowable aligning angle of ballbearing unitsStandard typeTriple lip seal type(Suffix code : L3)Steel plate cover typeCast iron cover type(Accessory code : C)(Accessory code : C, FC)(Accessory code : CD)(Accessory code : CD, FCD)Open typeFYH Ball Bearing Units have many features and areavailable in various models. A wide selection of mountedunits is offered to fit virtually any application.3 Superior sealing performanceFYH Ball Bearing Units efficiently prevent grease fromleaking out of the interior of the bearing, and performextremely well at keeping contaminates, such as dustand water, from entering. This is achieved by installingthe seal to the outer ring of the bearing and installing theslinger to the inner ring of the bearing. The seal is made of synthetic rubber with supreme oilproof characteristics, and the lip of the seal contacts withthe inner ring of the bearing with optimal tension. When operating in moist or dusty environments, thetriple lip seal unit (suffix code : L3) or a covered unit(accessory code : C, CD, FC, FD) is recommended. The triple lip seal unit or unit with cover helps preventingress of water and dust from the outside, and extendsthe rated life of the bearing.Open & Closed type1.2 FeaturesUnit with coversFig. 1.34Sealing mechanism of ball bearingunits

4 Simple lubricationFYH Ball Bearing Units are tapped to accept a greasenipple which is also supplied with every mounted unit.Bearings are pre-lubricated at the factory and do notrequire additional grease upon installation. When operating in excessively moist, dusty, or hot environments it isrecommended that grease be supplied at regular intervals. If appropriately maintained, the rated life of thebearing can be extended. The grease nipples that are supplied with FYHmounted units include 1/4-28 for smaller units and 1/8 PTfor larger units. Additional styles are available uponrequest.5 Highly rigid and rugged cast iron housingsFYH Ball Bearing Units housings are designed so thatthey are optimized for reduction of deformation due tocentralization of stress and load. Only the best material isselected to be cast by a highly advanced technique orpress working technique, depending on the housing.Since any abnormal load on the bearing is eliminatedby the housing, the life of the bearing can be extended. Aspecial baked on coating helps resist corrosion andprotect the surface of the housing for an extended periodof time.7 Series and modelsFYH Ball Bearing Units are available in various seriesand models.Reliability of machinery or equipment, used togetherwith these units, can be improved by selecting and usingunits optimal for the application and operating conditions. Triple seal bearing series Unit with cover seriesWater, dust, and debris protection Heat and cold resistant series Clean seriesCompact, lightweight, and corrosion resistant Stainless steel seriesCorrosion resistant Cast steel seriesRugged housings Ceraball seriesAbility to withstand severe environments, exposureto water, chemicals, high temperature, or high speed6 Simple installation and handlingFYH Ball Bearing Units interchange with many different models and can be bolted to machinery without anymodification. The exact amount of clearance is allowedbetween the bore and the shaft to allow a perfect fit. Therefore, FYH Ball Bearing Units do not require anyadditional lubrication or seal installation. As a result, handling and downtime can be drastically reduced.Three different locking mechanisms are available :(1) set screw(2) eccentric locking collar(3) tapered adapterMounting the bearing to the shaft can be executedeasily and securely by adopting any of these methods.5

2 Models2.3 Units for special useTo meet customer requests for bearings with specialpurposes FYH offers a variety of bearing options to meettheir needs. Various features allow FYH bearings to work inmany non-standard environments and conditions. The following information shows some of the ways FYHcan offer solutions to your non-standard bearing needs.1 LⅢ (L3) unitsThe triple lip seal is composed of a three lip seal gluedto the steel shield plate with vulcanized adhesive. Thetriple lip seal prevents dust, mud, & water from accessingthe raceway of the bearing. The triple lip ensures longbearing life in even the most severe environmental conditions. The L3 seals are fit to the outer ring of the bearing anddo not require the insert to be handled any differentlythan a standard model. The L3 seal allows for the sameamount of misalignment as a standard insert. The L3seal retains its’ sealing performance for the life of theunit. The L3 unit is helpful in keeping contaminant out of theinsert, prolonging life and minimizing bearing changeouts. The L3 insert in available in the UC series as wellas the UK series.block where shafting will not pass through. The covershelp ensure that dust and other environmental contaminants will not reach the insert. The covers help improvethe rating life of bearing units where conditions havecaused other bearings to fail.Open pressed steel covers use C, open cast ironcovers use FC. Closed covers use D for pressed steeland FD for the cast iron type. Pillow blocks can havecovers on both sides, and can come in open/open oropen/closed designs.Steel plate cover typeOpen & closed typeOpen typeCast iron cover typeOpen typeFig. 2.2Open & closed typeModel and structure of units with cover3 High temperature / Low temperature units(accessory code high temperature D1K2re-lube, D9K2 pre-lube low temperature D2K2)Fig. 2.1Structure of LⅢ units2 Units with covers (accessory code C, D, FC, FD)Covers can be fitted onto most types of housings withsome machining necessary. The covers come in bothpressed steel type as well as cast iron. Covers are available in open and closed designs. The open design has ahole with a rubber seal that allows shafting to passthrough it. The closed design would be used on a pillowTable 2.3CategorySpecial codeFor applications that require bearing units to be usedat a higher or lower temperature range than our standardmodels FYH offers several options. For high temperatureunits that require lubrication please specify D1K2 type ofinserts. For high temperature units that do not requirelubrication specify D9K2. The D9K2 insert uses a fluorogrease, that allows for high heat resistance and operationfor a long period of time.
