EXPERIENCE WHERE ITCOUNTSNothing speaks volumes more than the expertiseof a company and their ability to continually provide high-quality, reliable products. With morethan 60 years of experience in the design, manufacture, and application of pumps and pumpingsystems, you can rest assured that a Grundfospump is a sound investment.Grundfos is a pioneer of innovative pumping solutions and dedicated to developing, producing, andselling the highest quality pumps and pumpingsystems while at the same time contributing to abetter quality of life and a healthier environment. With a focus on reliability, premium quality, highefficiency, low life-cycle costs, and sustainability,Grundfos has become the preferred partner andsupplier for consulting engineers, municipalities, developers, and building owners. The PACO VL/VLS series of Grundfos pumps are partof the SMART family of pump products which arebetter engineered to increase efficiency and reduceradial loads. SMART pumps are also designed to helpreduce operating and maintenance costs. The VL/VLS Inline pumps have proven to be extremelyversatile, often exceeding the requirements for avariety of market applications, such as chilled water, condenser water, and hot water systems.WHAT’S YOURINSTALLATIONFOOTPRINT?When floor space is a consideration, you’ll want togo with the VL. Where many other pumps mightnot fit, the VL’s vertical inline mounting guarantees the smallest footprint, literally requiring nofloor space.2 Innovation and Experience

INNOVATIVE DESIGN FOROPTIMUM OPERATIONGrundfos pushes the limits of pump performance. The VL offers comprehensive sizes andconfigurations to meet your needs. It has a superior hydraulic and mechanical design, which produces higher efficiency, reduced pump noise, andlonger pump life. The VL can be fitted with a speed-control system, which significantly cuts energy use and providesa pump payback in as little as one to two years. Now that’s a benefit you can take to the bank!THE DOUBLE VOLUTEDESIGN DECIPHEREDThe compensated double volute is another designfeature that differentiates a Grundfos pump fromthe rest of the pack. The double volute design virtually eliminates radial forces caused by a hydraulic imbalance inherent in pump volutes. Here’s what’s happening: the double volute creates a secondary cutwater 180 degrees offsetfrom the volute cutwater that is formed where thedischarge and impeller meet. This creates equalforces acting upon the impeller. Another outcomeis extended seal and bearing life, which minimizesvibration and noise. The double volute design improves efficiencies byproviding two individual passageways to guideflow in the casing, creating a more stable flow anda broadband efficiency range. The broadband efficiency keeps efficiency losses to a minimum as flowsmove away from the best efficiency point (BEP).One other feature of the volutes is a back pullout design, which allows for easy removal of thepumps rotating assembly without disturbing thepiping connections.Double volute design withopposing radial forcesPACO VL/VLS 3

FEATURES WITH BENEFITSBRACKETS The heavy duty cast and machined motor bracketprovide the motor with a rigid and reliablemounting surface Accurately machined register fit of bracketsallows for concentricity and near perfectalignment of rating partsCASE WEAR RINGS Replaceable case wear rings protect the pumpcasing from wear and tear and permit simpleand easy maintenance of proper runningclearances Case wear rings reduce maintenance costs andhelp maintain high operating efficienciesINLINE FLANGES Inline design allows for space savings, beingmounted “in-the-line” requiring no floor space Inline design reduces initial cost by saving inmaterial and installation costs with bases andmounting foundations Flanges are sized with the same suction anddischarge sizes according to flow rate to mostengineered pipe sizing, thus eliminating theneed for reducers, elbows, or other fittingsIMPELLERS Engineered “closed” (double shrouded)impellers with Francis Vane design improvesthe pump’s efficiency Extended vanes and enlarged eye contributeto a reduction in vibration and noise as well asreduced overall NPSH required for these pumps Impellers are statically and dynamically balanced to ISO 1940-G3, decreasing noise andvibration Hydraulically balanced impellers reduce radialloads, prolonging seal and bearing life Multiple material selections allow forcustomized solutions to meet specificapplication requirementsSHAFT and SHAFT SLEEVES Vertical configuration of the shaft eliminatesshaft slope and related distortions, promotinglonger seal and bearing life compared to conventional horizontally mounted units Shaft sleeves are available in a wide variety ofmetallurgies, such as steel, bronze, etc. Sleeve protects the shaft from corrosion andwear, extending the overall life of the shaft andusable life of the pumpSUCTION BAFFLE Integrally cast suction baffle directs flowdirectly into the eye of the impeller for a moreeven distribution flow, eliminating pre-rotationand suction losses and creating a smooth, quietpump operationVOLUTE Compensated double volute design virtuallyeliminates radial forces caused by a hydraulicimbalance inherent in pump volutes Double volute design extends seal and bearinglife, minimizing noise and vibration, andimproving operating efficiency4 Features, Benefits, and Efficiencies

QUIETER OPERATION.HIGHER EFFICIENCY.Minimum pump noise is a necessity in most applications. Construction costs for modern commerical buildings have led to a closer proximity of workareas to mechanical rooms.Because fluid- or structure-borne noise problemsare difficult and costly to solve, equipment thatruns quietly has become essential in nearly everyapplication. To ensure building owners the least possible noiseis generated by their pumps, maximum sound levels should clearly be specified in the same manneras capacity, head, and efficiency requirements. The chart below illustrates sound level requirements and test procedures performed in accordance with the Hydraulic Institute’s standardsfor measuring sound produced by conventionalpumping equipment.A SMART PUMPThe VL Vertical Inline pump falls into the SMARTfamily of products with superior hydraulic andmechanical design that produces higher operatingefficiency, reliability, and reduced pump noise.PACO VL/VLS 5
