WelcomeWelcometo theNeighborhoodLittle Rock is the capital and most populous city of the state of Arkansas. It is also the county seat ofPulaski County. It was incorporated in November, 1831, on the south bank of the Arkansas River,close to the state's geographic center. The city derives its name from a rock formation along the river,named the "Little Rock" by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe. The capital of theArkansas Territory was moved to Little Rock from Arkansas Post in 1821. The Little Rock-NorthLittle Rock-Conway, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area, is made up of six counties and is ranked 78thin terms of population in the United States.Little Rock is a cultural, economic, government, and transportation center in the southern area ofArkansas. Two major Interstate highways, Interstate 30 and Interstate 40, meet in Little Rock, with thePort of Little Rock serving as a shipping hub. State government is a large employer, with many officesbeing in downtown Little Rock. The city is also headquarters of Dillard's, Windstream Communications, Acxiom, Stephens Inc., University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Heifer International, theClinton Foundation, and the Rose Law Firm. Large corporations, such as Dassault Falcon Jet and LMWind Power have operations in the city as well.There is plenty to see and do here in the Little Rock Area.
