/524Dja Clarke-Ashby and Muata Ashby designed the cover for this book. It was developed withthe idea of pictorially conveying the main concepts of the Kemetic Diet, an African(Kemetic-Ancient Egyptian) based Integral Lifestyle Enhancement Program (ABILEP),which relates to nourishment for the body, mind and soul. There are different groups of vegetarian food items that form the shape of a circle, like a plate. These items constitute theproper food for the body. Within the circle there are three Kemetic symbols. The symbol inthe center, surrounded by the map of Africa, is the Ankh, meaning “Life Process.” To the leftof the Ankh is a small strip of Papyrus paper with an Ancient Egyptian Proverbian Proverb”written in hieroglyphic text. It means “feed the mind what endures,” i.e. wisdom of life. Tothe right of the Ankh is the Eye of Heru, known as the “Divine Food Offering” or KemeticEucharist. This is food for the soul because it requires spiritual enlightenment. All together, these symbolize that life (Ankh) and health result when these three aspects of the constitutionof a human being are fed the proper nourishment. They constitute a full meal for every human being, food for the body, food for the mind and food for the soul. The Kemetic Diet

/524The Holistic Health GuideforBody, Mind and SoulLife, Vitality and Health!May this person’s mettu flourish.May this person’s mettu be sound.May this person’s mettu be excellent.May this person’s mettu be comfortable.-An Ancient Egyptian DoctorAn Invitation to Change Your Life-Style!Why Change? Consider the Following Statistics1: In the United States of America (USA), approximately 50% of alldeaths are due to Heart Disease Disease” !Heart Disease Disease” is the leading cause of death worldwide, and is expected to increase in the next two decades!Cancer, is the second leading cause of deaths in the U.S.A.!Cancer is responsible for approximately 1/8th of all deaths worldwide, and this figure is expected to increase in the two decades!

/524 The World Health Organization listed the two most significantreasons for the expected increase in Heart Disease Disease” andCancer worldwide as (1) an increase in smoking and (2) adoption ofa westernized diet!Cancer is the third leading cause of death in children less than 4years of age, and the second leading cause of death in children 5 to14 years of age!Children as young as four years old consuming a westernized dietare being diagnosed with fatty deposits in their blood vessels (arteriosclerosis, in other words – Heart Disease Disease” )!Stroke (“Brain Attack”) is the number three cause of death in theUSA; approximately every minute in the U.S., someone has astroke! High Blood Pressure is a major contributing factor. This issue of weight is very important when one considers the following statistics: Approximately 40% of the population of theU.S.A. are overweight and approximately another 15% of the population are considered to be obese. One Health Food Store naturalhealth magazine referred to this situation as “reaching epidemicproportions.2”What is wrong with Milk and Dairy Products?3Increased milk consumption leads to HIGHER FRACTURE RISKdue to osteoporosis.4Several cancers have been linked to dairy products.5There is a correlation between dairy products and diabetes.6Lactose intolerance affects 95% of Asian Americans, 74% of NativeAmericans, 70% of African Americans, 53% of Mexican Americans, and 15% of European Americans (Caucasians)7 Cows milk proteins, sugars, and fats leads to chronic diseases, obesity, diabetes, andatherosclerosis plaques that cause heart disease.8Insulin-dependent diabetes (Type 1 or childhood-onset) has beenlinked to dairy products.9Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone, a genetically engineeredhormone injected into cows to boost milk production stimulates

/524the cow’s liver to produce an insulin-like growth hormone (IGF-1).All of this enters into milk and even affects breastfeeding infantswhose mothers drink milk.10 The Proven Benefits of Vegetarianism and the ProvenDangers of Meat EatingThe prevalence of hypertension (High Blood Pressure and its associated conditions) among vegetarians is about one-third to one-halfthat of non-vegetarians.11\12\13 A study of Caucasian Seventh-dayAdventists found hypertension in 22 percent of omnivores (thosewho eat both animal and vegetable foods), but only 7 percent of vegetarians. Among African Americans, the prevalence was 44 percent of omnivores and 18 percent of vegetarians.14 Adopting a vegetarian diet significantly lowers blood pressure in both normaland hypertensive individuals.15Cholesterol levels are much lower in vegetarians.16 Vegetarian diets reduce serum cholesterol levels to a much greater degree than isachieved with the National Cholesterol Education Program StepTwo diet.17 In one study published in The Lancet18 total cholesterol in those following a vegetarian diet for 12 months decreased by24.3 percent.Cancer rates for vegetarians are 25 to 50 percent below populationaverages, even after controlling for smoking, body mass index, andsocioeconomic status.19 One study found that people who includegenerous amounts of fruits and vegetables in their daily diets havelower rates of cancers of the lung, breast, colon, bladder, stomach, mouth, larynx, esophagus, pancreas, and cervix compared topeople who avoid such foods.20Obesity is a major contributor to many serious illnesses, and ismuch less common among vegetarians, compared to the generalpopulation.21 Vegetarians are, on average, about 10 percent leanerthan omnivores.22At least 200,000 Americans die annually at the hands of doctors!23

/524 4,500,000 people each year are poisoned (drugged) so seriously bytheir physicians that they require hospitalization!24Over 40,000 die of drugs used by medical doctors each year, thisnumber may exceed 120,000:“During 1974, Senate hearings under the chairman-ship of Senator Edward Kennedy, focused on problems of drug use and safety.” Senator Kennedy said, “This is a serious publichealth issue, and it’s one that is generally not understood among the American people .and one that results in the death of, as we’ve heard estimated, anywhere from 40,000 to120,000 deaths a year. We can’t be specifically sure of the number. Some have said that it’sa good deal higher . We’ve had estimates before our committee from responsible researchers that say the American consumer is paying 2,000,000,000 (two billion dollars) a yearmore than he should because of adverse drug reactions.”25On the Failure of Modern Medicine:“Health care has become too expensive There are a number of reasons Some ofthem are within our control and some of it is beyond our control. For example, medicine made tremendous strides in the early half of the (20th) century in dealing withacute infectious illness and as a result of immunization and improved public health andtechniques like antibiotics we really rolled back the numbers of people affected byacute infectious illness but what that left doctors dealing with was chronic degenerative disease which is by nature much more difficult and not so easy to fix. So that’s aproblem that I think was really beyond our control.”-Andrew Weil M.D.Proven BenefitsofThe Natural Health Program Recovery from life threatening illnessesRecovery from psychological disorders like depressionRecovery from eating disordersWeight lossPrevention and recovery from colds and fluIncrease energyWill power to give up vicesMental clarity and spiritual awakening

/524DO NOT BE CONFUSED: THERE IS AN ANSWER!Do not be confused by the myriad of claims and the constant revelations of drugs and treatments that are being discovered to be ineffective or even dangerous to health. There is a wayto find health if you are willing to take the responsibility of seeking for real answers and notbeing satisfied with miracle cures or medical treatments and drugs that are routinely withdrawn banned after having been touted as “breakthroughs.” There is an answer for you butyou must make the journey to learn about the nature of health and the real causes of disease. Then you will be empowered to promote your own health. The Sema Institute of YogaSema (?) is an Ancient Egyptian word and symbol meaning union. The greatest of these ishealth. What health is to the body, even that is honesty to the Soul.”“The body becomes what the foods are, as the spirit becomes what the thoughts are.”“If you would preserve understanding and health to old age, avoid the allurements of Voluptuousness, and fly from its temptations. For if thou hearken unto the words of the

/524Adversary, thou art deceived and betrayed. The joy which it promises changes to madness, and its enjoyments lead on to diseases and death.”“The blessings of thy eternal part, are health, vigor, and proportion. The greatest of theseis health. What health is to the body, even that is honesty to the Soul. Develop your spiritthat it may gain strength to control the body and follow the natural Laws of nutrition andhygiene.”“Her name is Health. She is the daughter of Exercise, who begot her on Temperance. Therose blusheth on her cheeks, the sweetness of the morning breathes from her lips; joy, tempered with innocence and modesty, sparkles in her eyes and from the cheerfulness ofher heart she sings as she walks.”“Yield not to emotion, for there are discarnate forces around us who desire emotional existence. In the heat of passion one surrenders to the influence of these; ill health and unwise living results. Through firm instruction one can master one’s emotions and theseforces, in this, make them serve one. Thus the slave becomes the master.”“If you would live, in harmony with yourself and the Earth you must follow the laws of theEarth. For your body is of the Earth; lest it lead your SOUL to the path of disease, deathand reincarnation. The Neters (angels) of the divine will desert you, and those of evil willdestroy your body and your spirit.”“The source of evil is in your body. Evil entices the body through temptation of its weakestvirtue. There can be no divinity in the unclean temple, not made by hands where abomination rules.”“Your spirit is of God and the Body is of Earth.”“The source of illness is the food you ingest; to purge the dreadful UKHEDU (disease process) which lurks in your bowels, for three consecutive days each month purge yourselfwith a cattle horn, its sharp end clipped off so as to create a small opening (for water torun through).”

“AN INVITATION TOCHANGEYOUR LIFE-STYLE”

By“Hemit Dja Un Nefert”(Karen Clarke-Ashby)Editor and Contributing AuthorSpecial thanks to Carmen Ashby (mother of Dr. Muata Ashby)for her editorial assistance.AN INVITATION TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE-STYLEIntroduction:Greetings. Peace and Blessings! It is our privilege at the Sema Institute of Yoga to bring forth theknowledge and wisdom of humanity’s ancient African ancestors, the Kemetic (Ancient Egyptian)Culture. Kemet, KMT, or Kamit is the ancient name for the land in Northeast Africa now calledEgypt. The inhabitants of Kemet were African peoples, not to be confused with the current Arab inhabitants who were the last group to conquer Egypt, the majority of whom follow the Islamic faith. The terms Ancient Egypt(ian) or Kemet(ic) will be used interchangeably throughout this work torefer to this culture. The introduction section of this book, “Who were the Ancient Egyptians?” givesfurther historical insight into the timeline and people of this culture, which, according to their ownhistorical records, reaches as far back as 25,000 to 35,000 B.C.E., and has been documented by modern scientific techniques to have existed for at least 12,000 years. What does such an ancient culturehave to offer us in terms of life in the modern age? Well, think about it. We have a culture that hasbuilt monuments, which to this day, with all of our modern so-called technological advancements, still defy an explanation as to how they were made, and furthermore, duplication of the process. Togive a context, consider that the United States of America is approximately 200 years old. It is obvious that Kemetic knew and did something as a culture, that mankind has not since been able to replicate. Their wisdom is embedded on the walls of the pyramids, tombs and scrolls, and it is from thesesources that the wisdom on Kemetic health, for body, mind and spirit, has been taken. It must be understood however, that though no modern society has since duplicated the phenomenathat existed in Ancient Egypt at a cultural level, there have always been individuals within societieswho have grasped and realized the truth of this ancient wisdom. These individuals are called sages, saints or Enlightened beings. While these individuals may or may not have specifically studied thescriptures of Ancient Egypt, they have studied the essential religious and spiritual teachings that haddistilled into the various societies of the ancient world, and further developed within those societies tosuit the needs of the particular culture.27 These individuals, in turn, become the sparks that light thefire in the hearts of those who themselves seek to discover a higher truth of life, beyond the mundaneand alternating cycles of joy and sorrow, pain and pleasure, gain and loss, comfort and discomfort,dis-ease and health, which have pervaded human existence since the beginning of time. Dr. MuataAshby, or “Seba28 Maa” as he is called by his students, the primary author of this book, is such anindividual. He has worked extensively to bring forth the knowledge and wisdom of the sages of

/524Ancient Egypt (Kemet) in the areas of mysticism, history, spirituality, and now on integral health forthe body, mind and soul.Statistics on Disease and the major Causes of Death: An Invitation to Change29The issue of health, or rather, of ill-health (illness) is at the forefront of many crisis-oriented discussions in our nation right now, understandably so with statistics such as follows:In the United States of America (USA), one out of every two deaths in is
