September 5, 2021: TWENTY THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME O B M M Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, May the grace and blessings of Jesus Christ be with you! “The world being unworthy to receive the son of God directly from the hands of the Father, hegave his son to Mary for the world to receive him from her.” Saint Augustine There is not much written about Mary in the Sacred Scripture. As a matter of fact, Mary wasonly recorded on four different occasions in the bible. Yet, as Christians, we feel so attractedand close to her. We have seen Mary changed from a gentle, loving teenage girl who wasannounced to be God’s chosen one by Angel Gabriel to the brave Mother of Jesus cryingbitterly at the feet of her Son, our Lord and Savior who crucified for us at the Golgotha.Mary’s transformation inspired us and simultaneously drew us closer to her for intercession.Saint Jerome beautifully describes it when he says, “Even while living in the world, the heart of Mary was sofilled with motherly tenderness and compassion for men that no one ever suffered so much for their own pains,as Mary suffered for the pains of her children.” Thus, the description of Saint Jerome about our Mother Marytells us that as her sons and daughters Mary truly loves us and she desires for us to be with our Lord. But, for ushumans to be with our Lord in Heaven, we must go with our Mother Mary. St. Thomas Aquinas stated “Asmariners are guided into port by the shining of a star, so Christians are guided to heaven by Mary.” Ourancestor, Eve was the first person to disobey God. Mary is the first person to say “Fiat: Let it be done.” Mary'sfiat to God in the time of difficulty. Mary’s fiat to God in the time of fear. Mary’s fiat to God in the time of trialfaith. Mary’s fiat to God until death. Sisters and Brothers in Christ, as we begin to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Immaculate Conception Church, let us continue to come to our Blessed Mother Mary for intercession. “In trial or difficulty I have recourse toMother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear.” Saint Therese of Lisieux. “Mary was thefirst person to take the ‘way’ to enter the Kingdom of God that Christ opened, a way which is accessible to thehumble, to all who trust in the word of God and endeavor to put it into practice.” Pope “Benedict XVI Many Prayers and Blessings! in Christ, Fr. Huy P J U S P ’ L # R Come explore the longest, but most important of Paul’s letters as it delvesdeeper into the Gospel message of Salvation & Redemption through the livingof a moral Christian life. Paul’s masterpiece explains in vivid detail how therighteous person is justified by a complete transformation of their life throughthe grace that begins at Baptism continuing through the sacramental life. Witness Paul as he writes to the Romans about issues relevant for today:conflicts among religious and political groups, how civil law is good if itpromotes the common good. Challenge yourself to enlighten the eyes of your heart anew to the gospel ofsalvation presented masterfully in the pages of the Letter of Paul to the Romans! Forming in Faith. R : T T S O T First Reading: Is 35:4 7a Thus says the LORD: Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comeswith vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, theears of the deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a tag, then the tongue of the mute will sing. Streams willburst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe. The burning sands will become pools, and the thirsty ground, springs of water. Responsorial Psalm: . Praise the Lord, my soul! Second Reading: Jas 2:1 5 My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if aman with gold rings and fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comesin, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here, please,” while you say to thepoor one, “Stand there,” or “Sit at my feet,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves and becomejudges with evil designs? Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Did not God choose those who are poor in theworld to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? Gospel: Mk 7:31 37 Again Jesus left the district of Tyre and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the district of theDecapolis. And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay hishand on him. He took him off by himself away from the crowd. He put his finger into the man’s ears and, spitting, touched his tongue; then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, “Ephphatha!”²that is,“Be opened!” ² And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and hespoke plainly. He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more theyproclaimed it. They were exceedingly astonished and they said, “He has done all things well. He makes the deafhear and the mute speak.” Financial Stewardship Offertory August 29, 2021 Immaculate Conception: 5,575 Online: 600 Saint Jerome: 4,931 Online: 1,432 Thank you for your Generous Support I C C C 150 Y O F , F !
