JANUARY 20, 2019: SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! I"# %& J&)*) % , *- W&// "0! The Christmas season can sometimes bring unforgettable moments of love and joy that include big questions, like “will you marry me?” It was ten Christmases ago at our family gathering that my now son in law, Ben, got down on one knee and asked our daughter Erin to marry him. It was a beautiful and unexpected moment that resulted in tears and laughter and applause. The wedding happened the following October.! ! Everyone loves weddings the promise of love that will never end, the celebration of someone we love finding a partner in life, and the reception where we share a wonderful meal, a full dance floor, lots of laughter and joy.! ! Jesus loves weddings too. There was a wedding in Cana and Jesus was invited. When Jesus is invited, divine love is married to our human love, and that changes everything. When Jesus is invited into our marriage, we do not have to worry about running out of anything. In the gospel, the couple ran out of wine at the reception and Jesus responded with hundreds of gallons of the finest wine imaginable. Jesus always responds with super abundance that is what divine love does. That is why I was so grateful that my daughter’s wedding was held in our parish church they invited Jesus into their marriage.! ! When Jesus is invited into our marriage, He consecrates the amazing, life changing, romantic love that catapults us into each other’s arms. He transforms the love that makes us want to spend our lives together into a love that is willing to sacrifice for the person we love. And that is what we need for the challenges we all face in life the adventures of finding a place to live and work, the ups and downs of finances and jobs, the hopes for having children, and the unknowns of sickness and health in mind and body and spirit. When Jesus is invited to our wedding and into our marriage we will always have enough of whatever we need; we will never be alone; we will never be overwhelmed. ! ! Maybe you or someone in your family just got engaged this past Christmas. If so, please come and talk to one of the priests or deacons about having your wedding at Saint Jerome or Immaculate Conception Church. If you, or someone you know, were already married outside the Church, you can still invite Jesus into your life together by having your marriage consecrated through convalidation; we would love to hear from you too.! ! Falling in love is a wonderful experience and gift of grace that is made most holy and complete when we taste the amazing wine of divine love by inviting Jesus to the wedding!! A0% F 2 3 S ! Have you or has someone you know ! been diagnosed with a serious illness?! Saint Augustine the Teacher! Possibly the best example of how faith in Christ changed a person. Augustine’s narrative of personal transformation in his book Confessions provides a template for life in Christ that still rings true today.! Saint Benedict, the Monk! Many would argue that Saint Benedict, the Monk contributed more to saving western Christian culture than anyone else. Born just after Rome fell, Benedict founded the religious community that would, in time, preserve the best of the old and allow for the emergence of an authentic, Christian way of life.! ! Our Faith Community Nurses are sponsoring a presentation on Palliative/ Advance Care planning on Friday, February 1 at 9:30am in Saint Paula Hall at Saint Jerome Parish. A representative from the Archdiocese of Boston’s Initiative for Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning will discuss and take questions on palliative care, a way for people to live better with serious illness, offering support for loved ones as well. Palliative care is often confused with hospice and they are not the same.! ! Join Bishop Barron as he traces the lives and contributions of these two pivotal saints.! Immaculate Conception Msgr. Grant that they may grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ. Fill them with the joy of your presence. Increase in them the fruit of your Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of love, patience and gentleness, the spirit of wonder and true holiness.! ! ! ! ! F C 22%3 9 N% 3; C 0 30 F % S 3! Although usually minor, colds can make you feel miserable and last about 10 days. It is tempting to try the latest remedy, but the best thing you can do is take care of yourself. Rest, drink fluids, keep the air around you moist and wash your hands frequently.! ! The common cold is infectious from a few days before your symptoms appear until all symptoms are gone. Symptoms can be worse during the first two to three days and this is when you’re most likely to spread the virus.! It is possible to catch the flu or a cold after handling an object an infected person sneezed or coughed on. But personal contact with an infected person is the most common way these viruses spread. Use your discretion in shaking hands during the cold/flu season.! The best way to avoid becoming infected with a cold or flu virus is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water or with an alcohol based sanitizer. Also avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes or biting your nails. Most importantly get a flu vaccine every year !! ! ! Find more Collaborative news and events at catholicweymouth.org! 5!
