Tires are an important component of your Volkswagen driving experience.They provide the four points of contact between your vehicle and the road. Tires affect acceleration, cornering, brakingand your overall handling and performance. Volkswagen engineers select Original Equipment tires thatwill best meet the specifications of each vehicle. Volkswagen offers some pre-assembled wheel/tirepackages using Original Equipment tires matched to Volkswagen-designed wheels.This combination ensures precise fit and great performance from your Volkswagenmodel. Volkswagen also offers replacement and winter tires for purchase.A note about our wheel and summer performance tire assemblies: Our alloy wheel and tireassemblies, as well as some of the tires required for our larger-diameter alloy wheels, aredesigned for optimum performance and handling in warm climates. They are not suitablefor cold, snowy or icy weather conditions. If you drive under those circumstances, youshould equip your vehicle with all-season or winter tires, which offer better traction underthose conditions. We suggest you use the recommended winter or all-season tire specifiedfor your car or its equivalent. These high-performance tires also have a lower aspect ratiothat aids performance and handling; however, in order to avoid tire, rim or vehicledamage, it is important that the inflation pressure is regularly checked and maintained atrecommended levels. Please also remember, in making your selection, that while these tiresdeliver responsive handling, they may ride less comfortably and make more noise thanother choices. For further information on all these topics, please consult the owner’smanual, your local dealer or call 1-800-DRIVE-VW.New wheels: If you want to replace the wheels installed on the vehicle at the factory, makesure that the new wheels are equipped with sensors which are compatible with the factoryinstalled tire-pressure monitoring system, if applicable. The valve in each tire is equippedwith a sensor which measures the pressure in the tire and transmits it to the tire-pressuremonitoring system. New wheels with sensors are recognized and integrated into the system.For recognition to take place, the vehicle must be driven for a while at more than 15 mph(25 km/h) after it has been idle for about 20 minutes. If you are using tires with differentinflation pressures than those recommended by the factory, the tire-pressure values must bereprogrammed. Please contact your authorized Volkswagen dealer or qualified workshop.If you mount wheels which do not have sensors or have incompatible sensors, the systemcannot recognize the wheels; the tire-pressure monitoring system is not able to measureinflation pressure, and a malfunction will be displayed.NOTE: USA New Beetles model year 2008 and newer require tire-pressure monitoringsystem sensors. Only a limited selection of wheels are compatible.
