Theatrical Smoke, Fog and Haze Testing:Calibration FactorsRamboll (formerly ENVIRON) collected the original exposure measurements on which the guidancelevels for theatrical smoke and haze testing are based, and developed the air sampling protocolrecommended by the Actors' Equity Association. As such, we are uniquely qualified to provide testingservices and documentation that would be responsive to any inquiries made by Equity or your cast.Ramboll has developed a protocol for using a Thermo Scientific PDR-1000AN aerosol monitor tomeasure concentrations of theatrical smoke, fog and haze. The monitor measures the light scatteringproduced by particles in the air and reports the results in terms of mass concentration (milligrams percubic meter, or mg/m3) with the assumption that the particles in the air are a fine dust. Becausedifferent types of particles have different light scattering properties, the readings from the monitorneed to be adjusted (or calibrated) when measuring something other than dust (such as fog droplets). The user converts the dust readings to the correct mg/m3 readings for the fog droplets by multiplyingthe dust readings by a calibration factor for the particular fog fluid/fog machine combination beingused for the fog, smoke or haze effect. The following calibration factors have been developed and approved by Actors' Equity Association andthe Broadway League for use in measuring theatrical smoke, fog and haze:ManufacturerAdvancedEntertainmentSystems (AES)/ MT-ElectronicAmerican DJ(ADJ)AntariApproved Calibration Factors for Monitoring Theatrical Smoke, Fog, and Haze(Updated December 2019)FluidCalibrationMachineFluidTypeFactorVario 6Humidity 100%Cryo Fog FluidGlycol0.86Fog: 25%Humidity 100%1.40Fog: 50%Vario 8Humidity 100%Cryo Fog FluidGlycol0.66Fog: 25%Humidity 100%0.70Fog: 50%Fog Fury 3000Froggy’s Fog Backwood BayGlycol0.39Froggy’s Fog Bog FogGlycol1.62Froggy’s Fog Cryo FreezeGlycol0.64Froggy’s Fog Quick BlastGlycol0.64Froggy’s Fog VelocityGlycol0.64Fog Storm 1700 HDFroggy’s Fog Cryo FreezeGlycol2.67Froggy’s Fog Quick BlastGlycol2.67Froggy’s Fog VelocityGlycol2.671520 RGB UpshotFroggy’s Fog Quick BlastGlycol1.28DNG-200 Low FogAntari FLC Fog FluidGlycol3.40Froggy’s Fog Cryo (35)(35)(35)(35)(35)(35)(35)(45)(35)

This value can be used as a conservative (i.e., health protective) screening value. Ifmonitoring results using this calibration factor result in exposures exceeding the guidance levels, it is recommended thatadditional testing to refine this calibration factor be conducted.** Testing of vape pens, e-cigarettes and related products is limited to second hand exposure after being exhaled by theuser; the initial amount inhaled directly from the product was not measured.Disclaimer: This table does not represent an endorsement of any equipment-fluid combination by Ramboll. temperature profile was approximately wet adiabatic in the lowest two-thirds of the fog and inverted at higher levels. After sunrise, fog temperature increased uniformly. Dew deposition rate was uniform before fog formation and decreased to near zero between fog

liquid water, limiting the radiative cooling of the fog layer. In contrast, in an adiabatic fog the stability is close to neutral, enabling rapid vertical mixing, so that the surface and fog top are strongly coupled (Price,2011;Porson et al.,2011).
