It measures yourreasoning and critical thinking skills, which will beimportant to you through college and beyond. The SAT has 4 tests, including the optional SAT Essay. The 3 tests that everyone will take are the ReadingTest, the Writing and Language Test, and the MathTest. The tests break down like this:Time Allotted(min.)Number ofQuestions/TasksReading6552Writing andLanguage3544Math8058Essay (if taken)501180(230 with Essay)154(155 with Essay)ComponentTotalAs part of scoring, every test goes through an equatingprocess. Equating is a statistical process we use toensure that scores mean the same thing no matterwhich version of the test you take or when you take it.In order to assist with future testing, College Board mayconduct research studies in connection with the testingof a subset of students. Also, the test occasionally includes test questions forresearch purposes. These questions may appear in anyof the test sections, and testing time will be extendedby 20 minutes so students have time to answer them. These questions will not be included in computingyour scores. Students must complete all sections of thetest. If you leave before dismissal, your scores will becanceled. Scored test items and entire test forms maybe used in more than one test administration.Student Guide2020-21 SAT5
