WLWwas the last of nine Recruiting Nights held across Michigan duringthe first two weeks of December. The 2015 round of RecruitingNights kicked off in Grayling on December first. The Association’s first“Recruiting Fairs” were held in December of 2011 and drew coaches from28 colleges and 65 high schools to seven events. This Fall, nine high schoollocations saw 127 high school coaches visit 34 colleges. While we didn’t keeptrack of prospects attendance in 2011, the number of prospects that attendedthe events was just a handful. This year’s Recruiting Nights saw over 530prospects (and many of their parents) attend the nine events. The Recruiting Nights are designed to bring high school coaches togetherwith college coaches in a relaxed, out-of-school atmosphere. December 2015MHSFCA NEWSLETTERDecember Recruiting Night Eventstables and college coaches come to them to get informationon potential prospects and to “network”. Even in yearswhen a high school may not have a viable prospect for aparticular college, the visit helps to establish a relationship between the coaches, something that’s difficult to doduring the school day. In the second part of the evening, prospects - freshmen through seniors - and their parentsenter the facility and move between the colleges’ displays, meeting the college coaches or representatives and fillingout information sheets for those colleges in which theyhave an interest. Prospects and parents learn about thefootball programs, but also find out about admissionsprocedures, costs and financial aid.The Association thanks the coaches of the nine highschools who hosted this year’s Recruiting Nights (mostof whom have hosted since the beginning): Tim Sanchez,Graying; David Janicki, Hartford; David Howes, Escanaba;Noel Dean, Lowell; Gary Griffith, Troy; Jerry Parker,Carman Ainsworth; Scott Farley, Jackson; Mark Tyler,Edsel Ford; Mike Zdebski, Walled Lake Western. While we still have a lot of high school coaches whohaven’t taken advantage of the Recruiting Nights (forsome the distances are too great or the schedule justdoesn’t work), more and more MHSFCA member coachesare finding the Recruiting Night experience rewardingfor themselves and especially for their athletes and theirathletes’ parents. We hope this will continue next fall.December Recruiting Night Locations andAttendanceHighProspectsSiteSchoolsColleges ll2114105Troy241562Carman Ainsworth231695Jackson111952Edsel Ford2026128Walled Lk Western111952NEXT:Last spring, in May, the MHSFCA did a pilot Recruiting Night at Edsel Ford High School which drew 10colleges and 11 high school coaches.
