UND AEROSPACE“ Global Excellence Through Innovative People”Cirrus SR-20Vacuum System12/23/03

The system information, procedures andguidelines found in this presentation are forReference Only. The information & procedures in thispresentation have been taken from the FAAApproved Airplane Flight Manual and Pilot’sOperating Handbook (POH). The Information& Procedures in this presentation DO NOTSUPERSEDE the Information & Proceduresin the POH. In the event of conflict, the POHshall take precedence.

Vacuum System OperationsStandby Electric PumpFor extended ground maintenance, disable standbyvacuum pump by pulling the STANDBY VACUUM circuitbreaker to prevent battery drain.Normal indications during engine startRed vacuum light will illuminate and AUX VAC light willilluminate, and electric vacuum pump will start. Aftershort delay, the attitude indicator GYRO flag will go outof view. After engine start, the red VACUUM annunciator and AUXVAC light will go out and electric pump will turn off.

Vacuum AnnunciatorsVacuum Warning Light--Failure of the engine driven vacuum pump or that the engine is notoperating.Low vacuum pressure in the line.AUX VAC Caution LightIndicates that the electric driven vacuum pump is supplyingvacuum.

Vacuum InstrumentsAttitude GyroVisual indication of flight attitudeBank markings10, 20, 30, 60, and 90degreesGyro can follow maneuversthrough 360 degrees in rolland 360 degrees in pitch.Red Gyro flag indicatesinsufficient vacuum foroperations.Upon start, the flag pullswhen vacuum passesapproximately 4 inches Hgdifferentia. If vacuum differentialapproaches 1 inch Hg, flagdrops into view.

Vacuum InstrumentsDirectional GyroDisplays airplane headingby rotating a compass dialin relation to a fixedsimulated airplane imageand lubber line. Will precess slightly duringflight and should beperiodically re-adjusted.

Vacuum InstrumentsSuction GaugeLocated on far right sideof instrument panel.Calibrated in inches ofMercury (Hg).Desirable range is 4.5 to5.4 inches of Hg.Attitude and directionalgyro should beconsidered unreliable ifsuction gauge is out ofthis range.
