CONVENOR’S CORNERDe Colores, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,Looking forward to 2006 -As I write this I am thinking about Christmas less than a week away, not focused on wrapped gifts under the tree, butthe gift God gave us wrapped only in swaddling clothes. Awesome is the only descriptive word I can come up withwhen I think that God “cared enough to send the very best”, to enter our world as He did; to model how we are to live ameaningful, fulfilling life; to endure our pains, and to then surrender His life for our sake. As if that wasn’t enough, Hedemonstrated that mortal life is not the end, but just the transition. What greater gift could we ever want?!When we think of such a gift, we are saddened to think of all the people around us who at one time or another acceptedand acknowledged Jesus as their Savior, but drifted away from a personal relationship in the busyness of their lives orsome other reason. They may feel something lacking in their lives and their Christian walk, but can’t identify what it is.If you’re like most of our 4th Day community, you know that an Unidos weekend can be the catalyst to help their headknowledge reach their heart. In 2006, I hope you will take the opportunity to make the specific effort to “make a friend,be a friend and bring a friend” to a “best ever” weekend. Your church’s liaison can be of assistance in processing thepaperwork, telling you the dates of the weekends and providing any guidance you need in approaching potentialweekenders. Co-sponsoring weekenders can also be a rewarding experience. For those of you who helped make the November weekends a reality, we thank you. As you heard, if you attended onethe clausuras in Rochester, those weekends were life-changing for many of the weekenders. We especially appreciatedthe special support of the teams and 4th Day community in rallying to sponsor weekenders there, then supporting themwith prayers, palanca and presence.Update on the long-range task force. This team of dedicated men and women has met bi-weekly this fall to constructstructured questionnaires for extensive telephone surveys of council members, clergy and liaisons. Task force members, council members and volunteer liaisons are now involved in contacting a large random sampling of the clergy – bothactive and inactive in UEC -- and liaisons, to get feedback on a broad range of their perceptions. Survey results willhelp the task force formulate suggestions and draw up proposals that should provide significant guidance for the longrange growth and direction of our UEC movement. We are indebted to everyone involved in this major endeavor.I pray you will continue to grow in your faith and reflect His love to others. May 2006 be a special year for you andUnidos en Cristo.Serving Him together,Clark Duffey, Convenor715-386-2543 cduffey@pressenter.comCLAUSURA ETIQUETTEhClausura attendance is limited to persons who have attended a Cursillo (UEC, VDC, Walk to Emmaus, etc.)weekend. Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) participants may also attend. It is inappropriate to bring childrenand infants because of the long worship service, and because seeing children at the Clausura can be painfulfor weekenders who are missing their own children.hRecorders, cameras and video cameras are not allowed at Clausuras. Cell phones and pagers should beturned off or set on “vibrate”.hPlease remember that we are guests of the host church, and that we are entrusted with the care of a largepart of their facility. Always treat their “home” with care.4TH DAY MARKEThLarge-print songbooks ( 20), “Christ is Counting on You” crosses ( 5) and Renewal Guideline cards ( 1) willbe available at a table outside the sanctuary on Sunday, January 29, just prior to the evening serenade andduring the early portion of the Clausura. Cash only (checks made payable to Unidos en Cristo are acceptable).
