Be sure to read your boat’swarranty, as well as the information and warranties(provided in your owner’s portfolio) for majorcomponents. You are responsible for notifying yourdealer in writing of any claimed defect within areasonable period of time and returning your boat toyour dealer for service.We recommend that you see your dealer if you wish tomodify factory-installed equipment or add newequipment. Your dealer is qualified to make suchmodifications or additions without placing the safety ordesign integrity of your boat at risk and withoutinvalidating the warranty.All warranty repairs must be performed by an authorizedWellcraft dealer. Your dealer has been carefully selectedto assist you with your sales and service needs. Yourdealer will be glad to answer any of your questionsabout your new boat. The dealer has a direct interest inyou as a customer and wants to see that your arecompletely satisfied with your purchase. The dealer is inthe best position to help you and has full support andassistance from Wellcraft Marine.Dealer Responsibilities:Your dealer will complete the pre-delivery checklist withyou when you take delivery of your boat. The dealershould also brief you on obtaining warranty servicefor the boat and major components and introduceyou to the Service Manager. Review the pre-delivery service record with you. Theservice record form must be signed by you and thedealer to certify that the work was performed toyour satisfaction and that your boat is in top-notchcondition and that all components are workingproperly. Sea trial the boat with you and provide a thoroughorientation on the operation of the boat and itssystems. If requested, provide you withcomprehensive instruction in the operation of yourboat and all its installed systems and components.

Boat Owner Responsibilities: Sit down with your dealer and a review the terms ofall warranties. Complete the Wellcraft, engine andmajor component warranty registration cards andmail them to the manufacturers. Fill out the boat information form located in thismanual. Inspect the boat at the time of delivery and reviewthe pre-delivery service record form with yourdealer. The record should be signed by you whenthe orientation is complete and you are satisfiedwith the operation of all systems. Read the boat and equipment owner’s manuals andoperate the boat and all equipment as instructed. Read and follow the engine manufacturer’sinstructions for initial inspection, break in, andservice. Schedule the 20 hour service and make sure allperiodic maintenance is performed as outlined in theboat, engine, and component owner’s manuals. Know your boat and the rules of the road before youuse your boat.upon or a discoloration of the surface of the water orcauses a sludge of emulsion beneath the surface of thewater. Violators are subject to a penalty of 5,000.00.Disposal of Plastics & Other GarbagePlastic refuse dumped in the water can kill fish andmarine wildlife and can foul boat propellers and coolingwater intakes. Other forms of waterborne garbage canlitter our beaches and make people sick. U.S. CoastGuard regulations prohibit the dumping of plastic refuseor other garbage mixed with plastic into the wateranywhere, and restrict the dumping of other forms ofgarbage within specified distances from shore.Marpol TreatyBoats 26 feet or longer must display a sign stating thedisposal regulation of the Federal Water PollutionControl Act. The U.S. Coast Guard has issued theseregulations to implement Annex V of the InternationalConvention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships,1973, commonly known as Annex V of the Marpol(Marine Pollution) Treaty 73/78. They apply to all U.S.boats wherever they operate (except waters under theexclusive jurisdiction of a State) and foreign boatsoperating in U.S. waters out to and including theExclusive Economic Zone (200 Miles.) It is important toknow these regulations and adhere to them.The regulations require U.S. recreational boaters, if yourboat is 26 feet or more in length, to affix one or moreUSCG Trash Dumping Restrictions placards to your boat.The placard warns against the discharge of plastic andother forms of garbage within the navigable waters ofthe United States and specify discharge restrictionsbeyond the territorial sea. (The territorial sea generallyends three nautical miles from the seashore.) Inaddition, the placard must contain the warning that aperson who violates these requirements is liable to civil( 25,000) and criminal (imprisonment) penalties. Theplacard also must note that State and local regulationsmay further restrict the disposal of garbage.Important: Make sure that your dealer checks theenginealignmentduringyourboat’scommissioning and at the 20-hour checkup. Theengine alignment check should be performed inaccordance with the recommended procedures asstated by the engine manufacturer in your engineowner’s manual. Failure to do so could result indrive train damage which is not covered underthe warranty. We recommend that you reference your enginewarranty certificate for initial inspection and servicerequirements.Operators shall display one or more placards in aprominent location and in sufficient numbers so they canbe observed and read by crew and passengers. Theselocations might include embarkation points, food serviceareas, galleys, garbage handling spaces and commondeck spaces frequented by crew and passengers. Werecommend that these placards be installed on all boats.The placards may be purchased from local marinas, boatdealerships and marine equipment suppliers. A specialplacard is available for boats operating on the GreatLakes.Important: It is illegal to discharge waste from yourmarine sanitary device (toilet) into the water in mostareas. It is your responsibility to be aware of and adhereto all local laws concerning waste discharge. Consultwith the Coast Guard, local marina or your dealer foradditional information.Product ChangesWellcraft is committed to the continuous improvement ofour boats. If you have questions about the equipmenton your Wellcraft, please contact your dealer or theWellcraft Customer Service Department.Discharge of OilThe Federal Water Pollution Control Act prohibits thedischarge of oil or oily waste into or upon the navigablewaters of the United States or the waters of thecontiguous zone if such discharge causes a film or sheen11

obligated by law to provide assistance to any individualin danger at sea. However, you should not put your boator crew in a dangerous situation which exceeds yourcapabilities or those of your boat. The 1971 BoatingSafety Act grants protection to a Good Samaritan boateroffering good faith assistance, and absolves a boaterfrom any civil liability arising from assistance given.Note: Some states and localities have legal limitson speed, noise and trailer specifications.It is your responsibility to be aware ofthese laws and limits and to insure thatyour boat complies. Consult with yourlocal Marine Patrol or local Coast Guardoffice.Required EquipmentU.S. Coast Guard regulations require certain equipmenton each boat. The Coast Guard also sets minimumsafety standards for vessels and associated equipment.To meet these standards some of the equipment mustbe Coast Guard approved. “Coast Guard ApprovedEquipment” has been determined to be in compliancewith USCG specifications and regulations relating toperformance, construction, or materials. The equipmentrequirements vary according to the length, type of boat,and the propulsion system. Some of the Coast Guardequipment is described in the Safety Equipment chapterof this manual. For a more detailed description, obtain“Federal Requirements And Safety Tips For RecreationalBoats” by contacting the Boating Safety Hotline 800368- 5647, the Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety atwww.uscgboating.org or your local marine dealer orretailer.Registration and NumberingFederal law requires that all undocumented vesselsequipped with propulsion machinery be registered in theState of principal use. A certificate of number will beissued upon registering the boat. These numbers mustbe displayed on your boat. The owner/operator of a boatmust carry a valid certificate of number whenever theboat is in use. When moved to a new State of principaluse, the certificate is valid for 60 days.In order to be valid, the numbers must be installed tothe proper specifications. Check with your dealer orstate boating authority for numbering requirements. TheCoast Guard issues the certificate of number in Alaska;all others are issued by the state.InsuranceIn most States the boat owner is legally responsible fordamages or injuries he or someone else operating theboat causes. Responsible boaters carry adequate liabilityand property damage insurance for their boat. Youshould also protect the boat against physical damageand theft. Some States have laws requiring minimuminsurance coverage. Contact your dealer or Stateboating authority for information on the insurancerequirements in your boating area.Some state and local agencies impose similar equipmentrequirements on waters that do not fall under CoastGuard jurisdiction. These agencies may also requireadditional equipment that is not required by the CoastGuard. Your dealer or local boating authority can provideyou with additional information for the equipmentrequirements for your boating area.Briefing PassengersBefore each outing, ensure that at least one passengeris familiar with the proper operation and safety aspectsof the boat in case of emergency. Show all passengersthe location of safety equipment.Reporting Boating accidentsAll boating accidents must be reported by the operatoror owner of the boat to the proper marine lawenforcement authority for the state in which the accidentoccurred. Immediate notification is required if a persondies or disappears as a result of a recreational boatingaccident.Courtesy On-The-Water Know the rules of the water and practice them at alltimes. Be familiar with traffic patterns of the body of wateron which you are boating. Give fishermen, sailboats (not under power), andwater skiers plenty of room. You are responsible for spotting and avoidingswimmers and slow-moving vessels.If a person dies or there are injuries requiring more thanfirst aid, a formal report must be filed within 48 hours.A formal report must be made within 10 days foraccidents involving more than 500.00 damage or thecomplete loss of a boat. The 1994 Recreational BoatingAct may impose a 1,000.00 civil fine for people who failto submit a boating accident report.A Boating Accident Report form is located near the backof this manual to assist you in reporting an accident. Ifyou need additional information regarding accidentreporting, please call the Boating Safety Hotline, 800368-5647. If you see a distress signal, you must assumeit is a real emergency and render assistanceimmediately. The master or person in charge of a boat is 12You are also responsible for damage caused by yourwake.Operate at slow speeds in restricted and congestedareas.Keep a lookout for personal watercraft. They havethe same rights and responsibilities as you do.

Chapter 1:PROPULSION SYSTEM1.1GeneralOutboard motors are equipped with sacrificial anodesto prevent galvanic corrosion problems. The anodesmust be monitored and replaced as necessary. Forlocations and maintenance, please refer to the engineowner’s manual.Your Wellcraft is designed to be powered with 2-cycle or4-cycle outboard motors. Each manufacturer of thevarious outboard motors provides an owner’sinformation manual with its product. It is important thatyou read the manual very carefully and become familiarwith the proper care and operation of the engine anddrive system. A warranty registration card has beenfurnished with each new engine and can be located inthe engine owner’s manual. All information requested onWhen leaving the boat in the water, tilt the motors ashigh as possible. This will decrease the risk of marinegrowth around the cooling inlets, propeller andexhaust ports and damage from galvanic corrosion.1.3this card should be filled out completely by the dealerand purchaser and then returned
