PIMA has rendered valuableservices during disasters as well as regularlypart of PIMA activities. PIMA providedemergency services in natural and man madedisasters nationally and internationally.PIMA was one of first few relief organizations providing medical relief to the affecteesof Tsunami in Indonesia and Srilanka,affectees of Bam earthquake, affectees ofAfghan first and second war, Kashmirconflict, affectees of Bosnian and Kosovianwar, in Chechnya war and during Katrina(USA) disaster. PIMA’s outstanding reliefFlood ReliefPIMA has remained committed to thewelfare of flood affected population. PIMAstarted medical relief operations from thevery first day through its members through-2performance in Oct 2005 earthquake, IDPs ofMalakand and Swat and flood effectees of2010 were recognized nationally and internationally.PIMA is committed to promote healthawareness among the communities andproviding medical aid to victims of poverty,diseases, natural disasters and war. PIMAremained pioneer in managing national &international disasters. Thousands of Hygiene Kits weredistributed through collaboration withMalaysian Relief Agency (MRA).Hundreds of Antibiotic injections wereprovided to District Hospital Rajanpurfor Flood affectees. Press ConferencesDuring the relief activities, PIMA held several press conferences including:Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA)Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) and PakistanIslamic Medical Association (PIMA) haveaddressed jointly a Press Conference on 26thAugust 2010 on flood relief issue at Islamabad. Medical Relief Director of MRA Dr.Shahrizal Azwan and Secretary General ofPIMA Dr. Mumtaz Hussain addressed thepress conference. The announcement ofdistribution of Hygiene Kits in the floodaffectees was made in addition to othermedical relief activities.Serendib Foundation of Relief and Development (SFRD)Serendib Foundation of Relief and Development (SFRD) and PIMA jointly addressed at apress conference on 16th September 2010 atIslamabad. Relief Director MuhammadRafique, Dr. Muhammad Salahudeen, Dr.Muhammad Shaheel, Dr. Muhammad Rizvi,Dr. Muhammad Faiq from SFRD and Secretary General PIMA Dr. Mumtaz Hussainaddressed the press conference. SFRD hadsent two teams of doctors including ladydoctors and paramedics worked for onemonth in South Punjab flood affected areas ofRajanpur, Muzafargarh and KPK.International Muslim Women Union (IMWU)A delegation from International MuslimWomen Union (IWMU) and PIMA femalewing president jointly addressed a pressconference at Islamabad on 25th September2010. Assistant Secretary General for GlobalCoordination (IMWU) Mrs. Ishraqa Umarfrom Sudan and President PIMA female WingDr. Kauser Firdous (Ex. Senator) addressedthe press conference. It was told that morethan 100 lady doctors of PIMA had served inflood affected areas. A donation of onemillion rupees was announced by PresidentPIMA female Wing, Dr. Kauser Firdous.

This hospital was badlydamaged by the October 2005 earth quake.Re-strengthening (seismic code approvedreconstruction) of structure of KashmirSurgical Hospital has been completed,including completion of basic civil work andstructural re-strengthening. We are nowintensively working on the second phasewhich includes the finishing, decoration andfinal remodeling of the building according tothe requirement.PIMA is engaged in the provision of reliefand rehabilitation services to earthquakeeffected areas. Communities were unable toobtain medical attention as many healthfacilities had been damaged during theearthquake.PIMA established this Hospital in Mansehrain collaboration with UK based Muslim Aid.This 25 bedded hospital is now ready toprovide state of the art health services to thelocal and regional population of this remotearea. Continuous Medical Education (CME)PIMA has been conscious about continuousmedical education (CME) to keep its members and medical community aware aboutthe latest medical knowledge and research.PIMA is trying to organize uniform systemof CME throughout the country.Training WorkshopsPIMA is offering opportunities for personality development of its members. EveryMuslim physician must be equipped withthe required attributes of his profession byachieving and maintaining excellence in hisfield. He must be convicted in his faith andbe an excellent role model.For the purpose of achieving the above goalPIMA organized three training workshopduring the year 2010. These workshops wereheld in Islamabad (11th & 12th Dec), Karachi(25th Dec) and Sukker (25th Dec). Hundredsof PIMA members participated in theseworkshops. Theses workshops are now aregular feature of PIMA to enhance theprofessional and ethical values among itsmembers.

Pakistan Islamic Medical AssociationCentral Biennial Convention 2010, LahoreThe Central Convention was held at Lahorein March 2010 at Allama Iqbal MedicalCollege Auditorium on 27th & 28th March.Dr. Muhammad Afzal Mian was chairman ofthe organizing committee. More than 600doctors from all over the country attendedthis convention. Late Dr. Israr Ahmed,renowned scholar of Islam was the mosteminent among the speakers. Report of theprevious session was presented on thisoccasion. Dr. Shafqat Javed was elected asCentral President PIMA for the session2010-12. Central Executive Council Memberswere also elected from each province.

Prevention of Blindness (POB)Prevention of blindness project was startedby PIMA as a leading volunteer eye careorganization in July 2007. With sole missionof preventing blindness and preservingsights. PIMA POB endeavors to developstrategies for prevention and control ofblindness and visual impairment. The primeobjective of POB is to promote and sustain a20072008global campaign against all forms of avoidable blindness with emphases on deprivedcommunities.POB has been involved in treating eyepatients both within and outside the countryin collaboration with FIMA Save Vision. The ExecutiveCouncil consists of the followings OfficeBearers: Central President Secretary General Secretary Finance Elected & Nominated Members Provincial Presidents Project Directors Ex- PresidentsDuring the year 2010, two meetings of CECwere held in Islamabad. These meeting wereheld in April and October. Flood affecteesand their health related problems have beenthe focus of October CEC meeting.Centeral Working Committee (CWC)Members of Central Working Committee(CWC) meet regularly on monthly basis forexecution of work determined by the CentralExecutive Council. During the year 2010, 8CWC’s meetings were held in Islamabad,aiming to regularly review and execute theplanning and decisions. A special CWC washeld in Multan to review and plan for SouthPunjab Flood related issues in September2010.

PIMA President’s VisitThe president of PIAM Dr. Shafqat Javedvisited many cities of Punjab and KPKduring year 2010. Following are the details ofhis visits. The President visited the flood affectedareas of Jhang and Mianwali districts inJuly. During this visit PIMA PunjabPresident Dr. Abdul Hafeez Kardar andProvincial Relief Coordinator Dr. AsifKhokhar accompanied the president. The president chaired special CentralWorking Council (CWC) meeting atMultan in September. Later all the CWCparticipants from all over the countryaccompanied Central President in hisvisit of the flood affected areas of SouthPunjab. The president attended the seminar onflood relief at Lahore in September. Thisseminar was attended by more than 100doctors. The president visited KPK floodaffected areas Nowshehra and Charsadain October. PIMA president attended CentralExecutive Council Meetings of KPK (atPeshawar) and Kashmir (at Islamabad)in October. The secretary General PIMADr. Mumtaz Hussain also accompaniedthe President in his visits in KPK andSouth Punjab. The President PIMA addressed DonorsConference at Lahore in November. The President attended all the regularmonthly Central Working CouncilMeetings at Islamabad during 1st yearof the session. He also chaired the Two days TrainingWorkshop at Islamabad in December, inwhich more than 100 doctors fromPunjab, KPK and Kashmir participated.

Adelegate on comprising of 11 membersparticipated.CIMCO SeminarThe Seminar of Consortium of IslamicMedical Colleges (CIMCO) held on 21stSeptember 2010 in Beirut, Lebanon on thesecond day of the 17th FIMA council meeting. From Pakistan Prof Hafeez Ur Rahmanand Prof Muhammad Iqbal Khan represented PIMA.IHC SeminarThe 6th International seminar and workshopof Islamic Hospital Consortium (IHC) wasjointly organized by IHC chapter in Malaysiaand MUKISI (Indonesia) under umbrella ofFIMA at Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Workshop was held on December 18th & 19th2010. Theme of workshop was: “QualityImprovement in Hospital Management”. Atotal number of 85 local and foreigndelegates attended the workshop.

Free Medical CampsPIMA organizes free medical camps forthe needy people throughout the countryon regular basis. This activity has alwaysbeen a regular feature of PIMA. Deserving patients in remote areas are identifiedand treated throughout the country.Helping the IDPs of Mohmand AgencyPIMA maintain a range of facilities andservices to mitigate sufferings of the IDPs ofMehmend Agency. PIMA established a freemedical camp with lab. Service. A teamconsists of 2 doctors and 6 paramedics isproviding medical relief to 3000 families inMehmend Agency.
