Installing and Enabling the Application FirmwareR&S FS-K85Installation1xEV-DO Mobile Station Test ApplicationFirmware R&S FS-K85When configured with the Application Firmware R&S FS-K85, the analyzer performscode domain power measurements on reverse link signals (mobile station) on thebasis of the 3GPP2 Standard (Third Generation Partnership Project 2) "cdma2000High Rate Packet Data". This standard, which was defined for packet-oriented datatransmission, is generally referred to as 1xEV-DO (First EVolution Data Only). It is alsoreferred to as such in the R&S FS-K85 application firmware. In the standard, the term "Access Network" (AN) is used for the base station and theterm "Access Terminal" (AT) for the mobile terminal. In order to retain a degree ofsimilarity with the cdma2000 BTS and cdma2000 MS application firmware, the termreferring to the mobile station is also used in the 1xEV-DO FS-K85 applicationfirmware. The 1xEV-DO BTS application firmware is based on the "CDMA2000 High RatePacket Data Air Interface Specification" (version C.S0024 V3.0 from December2001) and the "Recommended Minimum Performance Standards for CDMA2000High Rate Packet Data Access Terminal" (version C.S0032-0 V1.0 from December2001).These standard documents are also published under TIA 856 (IS-856) and TIA 864(IS-864).he application firmware supports the code domain measurements performedon 1xEV-DO reverse link signals. Examples of the evaluations provided by the codedomain power analyzer are: code domain power, channel occupancy table, EVM,frequency error and RHO factor. All 5 channel types (PICH, RRI, DATA, ACK and1DRC) as well as TRAFFIC and ACCESS operating mode are supported. Owing totheir time structure, the signals are analyzed on half-slot basis. In addition to the code domain measurements, the application features measurementsin the spectral range such as channel power, adjacent channel power, occupiedbandwidth and spectrum emission mask with predefined settings.1Abbreviations are explained in Chapter GlossarySoftware Manual 1300.6708.42 - 057

Installing and Enabling the Application FirmwareR&S FS-K85Installation1 Installing and Enabling the ApplicationFirmware1.1 InstallationIf Application Firmware R&S FS-K85 has not been installed on the device, a firmwareupdate will have to be performed. This has already been done in the case ofinstallation at the factory. Before the application firmware can be installed, corresponding basic firmware for thebasic unit has to be installed on the analyzer. See the release notes of the currentApplication Firmware R&S FS-K85 for the compatible versions. If the basic firmware has to be updated, start the update with the floppy diskscontaining the basic firmware by pressing SETUPNEXTFIRMWARE UPDATE.When the correct basic software has been installed, the firmware update for thefirmware application can be started from the floppy disks containing the FirmwareApplication R&S FS-K85 by pressing the same keys: SETUPNEXTFIRMWAREUPDATE.Following installation, the application firmware has to be enabled as described below.1.2 EnablingApplication Firmware R&S FS-K85 is enabled in the SETUPGENERAL SETUPmenu by entering a keyword. The keyword comes with the application firmware. If theapplication firmware is installed at the factory, it will already be enabled.GENERAL SETUP Menu:OPTIONSThe OPTIONS softkey opens a submenu in which you can enter the keywords for theapplication firmware. The existing applications are displayed in a table that openswhen you enter the submenu.INSTALL OPTIONThe INSTALL OPTION softkey enables entry of the keyword for an applicationfirmware. One or more keywords can be entered in the entry field. If the keyword is valid, themessage OPTION KEY OK is displayed and the application firmware is entered in theFIRMWARE OPTIONS table. If an invalid keyword is entered, OPTION KEY INVALID is displayed. If the version of the application firmware and that of the basic firmware are notcompatible, you see a corresponding message. In this case, follow the instructions in theabove chapter "Installation".Software Manual 1300.6708.42 - 058

Getting StartedR&S FS-K85Enabling2 Getting StartedThe following chapter explains basic 1xEV-DO mobile station tests using a test setupwith the Signal Generator R&S SMIQ as the device under test. It describes howoperating and measuring errors can be avoided by means of correct default settings. The measurement screen is presented in Chapter 6 for the different measurements.Attention is drawn to important settings exemplifying how to avoid measurement errorsduring measurements. The correct setting is followed by a demonstration of the effectof an incorrect setting. The following measurements are performed:Measurement 1: Measurement of the signal spectrumMeasurement 2: Measurement of the spectrum emission maskMeasurement 3: Measurement of the relative code domain power and frequency errorSetting:Center frequencyMeasurement 4: Triggered measurement of the relative code domain powerSetting:Trigger offsetMeasurement 5: Measurement of the composite EVMMeasurement 6: Measurement of the peak code domain errorMeasurement 7: Measurement of the RHO factorThe 1xEV-DO raw data is created with the R&S WinIQSIM software and loaded intothe arbitrary waveform generator of the R&S SMIQ or R&S AMIQ.Measurements are performed with the following instruments and accessories:88888Spectrum Analyzers R&S FSU, R&S FSP or Signal Analyzer R&S FSQ withApplication Firmware R&S FS-K85 (mobile station test for 1xEV-DO).Vector Signal Generator R&S SMIQ with hardware options B11 (data generator) /B20 (modulation coder) and B60 (arbitrary waveform generator) plus firmwareversion 5.70 or higher with enabled option K17 1xEV-DO and R&S SMIQ-Z5PARDATA BNC ADAPTER for an external trigger signal.PC that is either connected by means of a serial cable to the R&S SMIQ, or has anIEC/IEEE bus card and connected by means of an IEC/IEEE bus cable to the R&SSMIQ.
