All Judokasregistered with an IJF affiliated Judo federation are invited to participate. Thechampionship will follow IJF Kata Competition Rules.A short Kata seminar is also included in the program and all are invited to attend. Theseminar will be run by Dale Keogh (6th Dan) and Ernie Wakamatsu (5th Dan). It is the responsibility of thejudoka to comply with the IJF judogi regulation rules. Back number is not required.Kata MedalsFirst place (Gold), Second place (Silver) and Third places (Bronze) place medals will beawarded according to the total number of points awarded by the judges. Players musthave scored a minimum of 50% to receive a medal.Tie break conditions will be applied.Kata SeminarA short Kata seminar is also included in the program and all are invited to attend. Theseminar will be run by Dale Keogh (6th Dan) and Ernie Wakamatsu (5th Dan). 2019OJU & WAINTERNATIONAL OPENKATA CHAMPIONSHIPS8 NOVPERTH, AUSTRALIA#JUDOPERTH2019Kata JudgesKata judges will be appointed by the OJU Kata Commission.A mandatory kata judge’s briefing will be held prior to the championships.Location:Western Australia State Netball Centre, 200 Selby Street, Jolimont,Western AustraliaDate & Time:Friday, 8 November14:30 to 15:30Kata Competition Rules & DrawThe official Kata competition recognized for these championships, will be: Junior Nage-no-Kata (limited to Cadets and me-no-Kata;Kodokan-Goshin Jutsu.The IJF Kata Competition Rules will be used to judge the Kata with reference also to theofficial Kodokan Kata textbooks.Competition FormulaEach Kata will be divided in two groups (as above): the top three pairs with themaximum points from each group (that is 6 pairs for each Kata) will compete in thefinals.Two mats will be used for the preliminary round and two mats for the final.If the number of pairs is less than 10, there will be only one group: the top 6 pairs of thegroup will compete in the final. For each Kata the pair with the maximum points will beawarded the gold medal, the pair with the second maximum points will be awarded thesilver medal; and the third, the bronze medal. The other finalists will be awarded with acertificate.Point SystemThere will be a minimum of three judges who will award points on the official IJF scoringsheet. For each technique three scores will be summed to produce the technique score:

Thetotal score of the whole Kata will be the sum of the technique scores.The evaluation of every technique of Kata has to consider the principle and theopportunity of execution: the evaluation (included the opening and closing ceremony)has to be comprehensive.Definition of mistakesForgotten techniqueAn omitted technique will score zero and in addition the total final score of the Katacouple will be halved. If more than one technique is forgotten the score for thattechnique will also be zero but the total final score for the couple will not be halvedagain.Big mistakeWhen the execution of the principle is incorrect (5 points are deducted and themaximum number of crosses is 1).Medium MistakeWhen one or more elements of the principle are not applied in the correct way (3 pointsare deducted and the maximum number of crosses is 1).Small mistakeImperfection in the application of the technique (1 point is deducted and the maximumnumber of crosses is 2).The total score for each technique can be increased or decreased by 0,5 point adding inthe column of the “correction value” a “ ” or a “- “.For every technique without a big mistake the minimum score has to be 4, 5.In the Nage no Kata, right and left techniques will be evaluated comprehensively (onlyone score).The couple enters and leaves the competition area at the opposite side of shomen: thestart and end of Kata (opening and closing ceremony) is at 8 m or 10 m distancedepending on the dimensions of the mat (bow to the mat). Any behavior of Tori or Ukeinside the competition area that is contrary to the spirit of Kata will reduce the score ofthe ceremony.

2019OJU & WAINTERNATIONAL OPENKATA CHAMPIONSHIPS8 NOVPERTH, AUSTRALIA#JUDOPERTH2019In case of an equal score between pairs, the following criteria will be appliedconsidering the scoring sheets of five Judges: Total value of big mistakes - wins who makes less mistakes; If still equal, total value of medium mistakes will be considered. - wins the pair whomakes less mistakes; If still equal, total value of small mistakes will be considered – wins the pair whomakes less mistakes; If still equal, the average score (evaluated until the second decimal place) of thewhole Kata will decide. Wins the pair who has a better score.If two pairs, both placing 3rd in the eliminatory (or 6th place in case of only 1group) arestill equal after all the above mentioned criteria, both pairs will qualify for the final.
