NOTES FROM MEETING #314720/02/2020Quite a big crowd gathered for the meeting, 70% attendance which isvery gratifying for the President, sort of an indication that he’sgetting it right. There was plenty of humor at our table probablebecause everyone including Jeff had bought a bottle of wine. Therewere a number of visitors with us for the night which included theguest speaker Lou De Mattia and Geoff Goodrich who seemed toknow her or is in the same business as Lou or maybe he was herassistant. There were 2 visiting Rotarians from Bali, John & Katieand Len, a friend of Erik, Lance Dunn from the CAV, Dan Leather afuture member as well as Len, brought along by Tony Francis also aLou De Mattia giving her Presentationpotential member. Barry let it b known that there will be a change tothe way the duty roster will be arranged so watch this space, be aware! Directors were called upon to givereports. First up was Tony who said the defibrillators were now in action, also the Diary dates had beenexpanded with lots of things to happen in the near future. Grant said he was on a learning curve and the editor isnot sure what that meant. Prath gave a report on building multi skilled and raised 1.5m. The Communicationsdirector reported Zero contributions from members on any subject by any means.Barry asked Grant to introduce the guest Speaker which he did and we were given a speech on the virtues ofsolar power and why it would be a good thing if we got involved in investing in a large project generatingenough power to not only look after our own needs but those of Indonesia and other countries to the north wholack wide open spaces to accommodate solar panels. A brochure called “The 10 Gigawatt Vision” was handedout and it says it all, no need to rewrite it all here in this bulletin but for those who missed out there is some ofthe information at the end of this Terrotarian The presentation went on for well over the allocated time and thenthere were questions , finally we came to general business and first up was Hugh with a new list of people whowill be involved with the 1million Hole in One Competition.Prath was called upon to give the international Toast to an overseas Rotary Club and he chose Columbia Eastwhere no doubt he has attended several times. Our visitors from Seminyak on Bali addressed the meeting and told us about the work they do with childrenwho have been abandoned by their parents. Their own good news was their intention to soon be married, wegave this story our enthusiastic blessing.Jim was now called up as our sergeant for the night and it was obvious, he was not happy. The probable reasonwas the short notice he had received for his duty as sergeant. Apart from the fines Jim gave an impassionatespeech about what was wrong with the system which was most recently discussed by the board and certainimprovements have been made which will give adequate notice of what are your duties for the meeting andwhat to do if you are not attending or feel what is expected of you is not appropriate. Example Thanking a guestspeaker who is your known adversary. Jim generated a lot of laughs when he pointed out that the guest speakeris provided with a drink but never seems to buy one back. That would be irritating if you are the sergeant andproviding entertainment as well as drinks for others in a similar role. He got members thinking about our quaintcustoms including what is the definition of a paspaley shirt? Something for the board to decide at one of theirendless meetings, maybe. We had 32 members in attendance, 4 visiting Rotarians, 1 club guest and 2 potential members. The fine session pulled 226, there was a meal surplus of 80 and foundation raised 24The Meeting closed at 15 past 8
