Swimming Pool TipsStart-up and Yearly Maintenance1.3.Make sure the pool has adequate circulation. The poolwater must completely circulate through the pump andfilter at least 1 to 2 times per day. This usually requires8 to 12 hours. Check with your dealer for the propercirculation time for your pool.If your fill water is high in metals, use a sequesteringagent or metal out product at start-up only before usingthe POOL FROG Mineral Reservoir. See your local dealerfor details on using these products and always followmanufacturers directions carefully.4. 2.Before beginning with any pool care program, you mustfirst balance your pool water. Take a water sample to yourlocal pool professional or use a complete test kit that willtest for the following important elements.Water Balance GuidelinespH:Total Alkalinity:Calcium Hardness:Total Dissolved Solids:Stabilizer:Free Chlorine:47.2 – 7.860 – 120 ppm150 – 400 150020 – 80 ppm0.5 – 1.0 ppmAfter your pool is up and runningsmoothly, continue to test yourwater for pH, total alkalinity andchlorine with FROG Brand TestStrips and maintain its balanceby adding any necessaryadjustment products (see yourdealer for details).5.Check the pool’s filter gauge often and periodically cleanfilter per the manufacturer’s directions. A dirty filterwill slow the flow of water which could hamper propercirculation.

Start-up and Operation1.2.Add a stabilizer or conditioner to thepool at the beginning of the seasonif the stabilizer level is below 20ppm. This will prevent chlorine burnoff. Follow manufacturer’s directionscarefully.4.Replace cap and run POOLFROG Cycler, with POOLFROG Mineral Reservoirinserted, for 10 minutes onSetting 5.Shock the pool with chlorine to ridthe water of all contaminants beforebeginning with POOL FROG . Followmanufacturer’s directions carefully.5.For an Algae ProtectionGuarantee insert FROG BAM into POOL FROG MineralReservoir in POOL FROG Cycler. (Follow directions onpage 8.)THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT TOSTART-UP.USE CHLORINE SHOCK ONLY.Do not add shock in or near the skimmer or into thePOOL FROG Cycler as it could damage equipment, risk potential explosion or discolor your pool surface.3.6.0//, &2/' "!# 0!#WARNINGWhen chlorine reading is downto 1.0 ppm, which may take afew days, insert POOL FROG Bac Pac. (Follow directions onpage 9.)Install a POOL FROG MineralReservoir into the POOL FROG Cycler. (Follow directions on page 7.)REPLACE THE POOL FROG MINERAL RESERVOIR EVERY6 MONTHS OR AFTER ONE POOLSEASON WHICHEVER IS SHORTER.5

TroubleshootingFor more in-depth troubleshooting, go to www.kingtechnology.comProblem1.What do I doif the water lookscloudy?Remedy1. Make sure your filtrationsystem is working properly(i.e. clean filter, skimmer andpump basket).2. Make sure circulation timeis adequate – increase pumptime if not.3. Make sure the pool isproperly balanced (see page 4).5. Make sure pool has afree chlorine reading of0.5 to 1.0 ppm.4. Shock the water toeliminate build up of anyorganic matter.6. Check with your dealerfor more information.2.What do I doif the water turnscolor?1. Metals in the fill water mayhave been oxidized. Have thepool tested. Shock the pooland clean the filter until waterclarity returns.2. Algae may be trying toform – shock the pool, increase circulation time ifneeded and clean the filter.3. Check with your dealer formore information.3.What do I doif algae forms in oron my pool?1. Use a nonmetallic (polyquat)algaecide per the directions onthe bottle and brush the sidesof the pool often.until water clarity returns.FROG BAM . See producthang tag for guaranteedetails.2. Clean the filter and shockthe pool with chlorine daily4.What do I doif I am underchlorinating withthe POOL FROG Bac Pac?1. If you are unable tomaintain 0.5 to 1.0 ppm, firstmake sure there are chlorinetablets in the tower areasof the POOL FROG Bac Pacand it is installed properly. Ifa correction was made, testthe water in 24 hours.2. If still low, turn the dial upone setting and test thewater again in 24 hours.Continue raising the settingby one increment each day5.10What do I doif I am overchlorinating withthe POOL FROG Bac Pac?1. If the chlorine reading isover 3.0 ppm, remove thePOOL FROG Bac Pac fromthe POOL FROG MineralReservoir and test the waterdaily until the reading is downto 1.0 ppm.2. Reinsert the POOL FROG Bac Pac, lower the dial onesetting and test the wateragain in 24 hours. If thereading has risen, lowerthe dial one setting again.Continue this process until3. If you are in an area of thecountry that struggles withalgae growth, see your dealerregarding a 90-day AlgaeProtection Guarantee usinguntil the proper reading isachieved.3. Shock the pool if thereading has been lower than0.5 ppm for more than oneday.4. Make sure pump run timeis at least 6 hours on highspeed (40 gpm or higher) orif not, bleed the air from theback knob each time cap isopen.proper reading is achieved.3. If over-chlorinating at thelowest possible setting, consider decreasing thecirculation time. Dependingon your pump size, you maybe circulating the water morethan is necessary.4. Contact your dealer tohave your back pressuretested. If over 8 psi considera larger eye-ball fitting in thereturn jet.4. Check with your dealer formore information.5. Contact your dealer to haveyour back pressure tested toensure it is at least 4 psi.6. Check for a suction sideleak by looking for air bubblesin your pump basket or atthe return jet. Contact dealerfor help in correcting thissituation.7. Contact King Technology’sCustomer Service Departmentat 800-222-0169.5.
