Connectingthe MixerMic InputUSB Streaming AudioThe Mic Input will accept eithera balanced ¼" TRS (tip-ringsleeve) plug or an unbalancedTS (tip-sleeve) plug. Any type ofmicrophone may be used, exceptthose that require phantompower to operate. See “MicLevel and EQ” on page 9.There are eight channels ofstreaming audio over theUSB 1.1 port. Two stereochannels from the computerand two stereo channels to the computer. While internal processing is all 24-bit 44.1kHz, streaming audio is 16-bit 44.1 kHz.If the blue indicator is on, the device isconnected and communicating with thecomputer. Two stereo signals from the computerappear as Digital 1 and Digital 2 inputs. These stereo digital signals may beselected for PGM 1 and/or PGM 2 (seesource selection in the Program Controlssection). As well as the two stereochannels sent to the computer for vinylemulation control, one stereo pair can alsobe sent to your computer for recording.See “Recording” on page 32.When not using the Scratch Livesoftware, the mixer appears as twofour-channel sound cards with stereo inand stereo out. The source for the stereooutput channels must be selected in yoursoftware. The following signals may beselected as the source for either digitaloutput to the computer: PGM 1 Pre- or Post- Fader PGM 2 Pre- or Post-Fader Main Mix AUX BUS (sum of the MIC, AUX andFlexFX Return).Analog OutputsLeave the power unplugged untileverything else is connected!PGM Inputs 1-4The TTM 57SL has two stereo analoginputs for PGM 1 and two stereo analoginputs for PGM 2. Any of these analoginputs may be set for Line Input or PhonoInput using the LINE / PHONO switcheslocated on the rear panel. Up is LINEand Down is PHONO. Unused inputs arebest set to LINE. Attach your turntable’sground wires to the Phono Groundconnectors. Two stereo digital inputs from the USBconnection, Digital 1 and Digital 2, arealso available for PGM 1 and PGM 2. Itis possible to select any combination ofdigital and analog signals.Any of the four analog inputs may beused for Scratch Live vinyl emulationcontrol. Input 1 or Input 2 may be selectedfor Scratch Live Virtual Deck 1 control.Input 3 or 4 may be selected for ScratchLive Virtual Deck 2 control. Control inputsources are selected using the ScratchLive software. As will be discussed laterin Program Controls, if a source has beenselected for vinyl emulation control bythe Scratch Live software, the number isback-lit as a reminder that the source isselected for control.SET THE UNUSED INPUTS TO LINEMain, Booth and Aux outputs each havetheir own Level control, and all come fromthe same “Main Mix” signal. The Mainoutput is on balanced XLR jacks with pin2 “hot” per AES standards. The Boothoutput is on balanced ¼" TRS (tip-ringsleeve) jacks, though unbalanced TS(tip-sleeve) plugs may be used. The Auxoutput is on regular unbalanced RCAjacks. Because all signals are identical, users may use any of these outputs as the“main” output if a different cable type isrequired for system connection.Rane recommends balanced wiringfor the strongest signal and rejection ofhum and noise. If your cable to the amprack is less than 10 feet (3 meters), youcan often get away with an unbalancedcable. See the RaneNote “Sound SystemInterconnection” at www.rane.com fordetails and cable wiring.Power SupplyThe TTM 57SL featuresan internal universalswitching powersupply that operateson any AC mains 100to 240 VAC, 50 or 60Hz (most places inthe world). All that isrequired when travelingis the appropriate IEC line cord which isusually readily available. The universalsupply is a major plus for the traveling DJ.RANE TTM 57SL MIXER FOR SERATO SCRATCH LIVE OPERATOR’S MANUAL 2.5.07

These “trim” controls adjust theselected input to match otherinputs. These controls have abuilt-in Limiter that prevents thesignal from clipping regardless of the Gainsetting. If increasing the Gain does notincrease the signal level, then the signalis already at maximum and the Limiter iscontrolling the signal to prevent clipping. The Gain range is 15 dB to off.MixerControlsPanThese controls pan the signalbetween the Left and Rightoutputs.InputChoose one of four INPUT sources foreach Program.PGM 1 selects: Analog-1 Analog-2 Digital-1 Digital-2(A1)(A2)(D1)(D2)PGM 2 selects: Analog-3 Analog-4 Digital-1 Digital-2(A3)(A4)(D1)(D2)High / Mid / Low EQThe Analog Inputs come from yourturntables or CD players. The DigitalInputs come from the Virtual Decks in theScratch Live software. If the number forA1 or A2 is illuminated, the Input has beenselected by the Scratch Live software asthe control source input for Deck One. Ifthe number for A3 or A4 is illuminated, the Input has been selected by ScratchLive as the control source input for DeckTwo. The backlit number is a reminder thatthis source may be a control signal andnot audio. You may select a control inputand use it as a normal analog input at anytime without de-selecting it for control inScratch Live, but remember that if youare playing a control record or CD, youwill hear the control signal. See “ControlSource” on page 34.8The control range is OFF to 6 dB. These use 2nd-order,Linkwitz-Riley, AcceleratedSlope filters. The Low-Midcross-point is 300 Hz. TheMid-High cross-point is 4kHz.Kill switches provideinstant-off for each control. The skull lights red andthe band is off when its Killswitch is pressed. When the switch isreleased, the EQ goes back to the settingof its EQ control. These switches maybe set to momentary or toggle operationwithin the Scratch Live software. See“Latch Kill Switches” on page 34.FadersMagnetic faders are usedfor both Channel Faders andCrossfader (the same fadersused in the TTM 56S). When theyellow indicator is lit, Channel Swap isengaged. When channels are swapped, the PGM 1 Fader controls PGM 2 andthe PGM 2 Fader controls PGM 1.PGM 1 is also moved from the A sideof the Crossfader to the B side of theCrossfader. Fader Contour and Reversecontrols stay with the original Fader. Fader1 Contour and Reverse is always withthe left Fader and Fader 2 Contour andReverse is always with the right Fader. This switch is slightly recessed to preventaccidental engagement.MeterThe Meter has two modesof operation. Aux InPhonesThis adjusts the level of theAuxiliary Input signal. This is afull-range control providing Offto 6 dB gain adjustment. The headphone output candeliver very high volume to someheadphones. To avoid pain, never put headphones on yourhead before plugging them in. Alwaysstart with the PHONES Level turneddown, and then turn it up to the desiredlevel.Mic Level and EQThe MIC ON switch engagesthe Mic. The green indicatoris lit when the MIC isengaged. MIC LEVEL adjuststhe Mic gain over a range ofOff to 50 dB. Set the gainwhere you want it and usethe MIC ON switch to turnthe MIC on and off. The OLindicator lights when thesignal reaches clipping. Ifthis lights red, turn the MICLEVEL down. MIC HIGH andMIC LOW tone controls allowyou to adjust the bass and treble of theMIC Input signal.Output LevelsOutput Level controlsare provided for MAIN,BOOTH and AUX Outputs.(XLR)All three outputs have thesame Main Mix source. As shown previously in(TRS)Analog Outputs (on pageManual-3), the Main outputis a balanced output onXLR connectors, the Booth(RCA)output is a balancedsignal on TRS connectorsand the AUX output is anunbalanced signal on RCA connectors. This combination of jacks allows you tohook into other equipment regardless ofthe connector type.CueThis slider pans betweenPGM 1 and PGM 2 in theheadphones when theMaster Cue light is off. When Master Cueis on, this control has no effect. The cuesignals are post-EQ and pre-fader.Master CuePress this switch (green lighton) to hear the Main Mix inthe headphones. When this light is off, theCue slider takes over.FlexFX LoopThis stereo loop connects anexternal effects processor,post-fader. The signals comingfrom the PGM 1 fader, the PGM 2 fader,or both may be routed to the FlexFX loop. This allows a single external effects unit toprocess PGM 1 and/or PGM 2.FlexFX switches are provided for PGM 1and PGM 2. Pressing the FlexFX switchlights the green indicator and sends thesignal to the external FlexFX Loop. Pressthe switch again to stop sending signal tothe loop (the green indicator goes dark).FlexFX jacks are unbalanced mono ¼" TS(Tip/Sleeve). SEND jacks provide outputto the effects processor. RETURN jacksprovide input from the effects processor.Effects insert devices with a single in/out TRS jack place Send on the TIP andReturn on the RING. For this application, you will need a “Y” cable, as shownbelow.Send signals may be used as anotherauxiliary output, allowing PGM 1, PGM2 or both to be routed to an externalsource (another amp or recorder). If youwish to disconnect your external effectsprocessor, it is not necessary to connectcables from FlexFX Send to FlexFXReturn, as the TTM 57SL detects thepresence of cables, and automaticallyconnects the Send and Return when acable is not connected.Any signal assigned to the FlexFX Loopwill be processed by any internal digitaleffect assigned to the AUX BUS. This hasthe advantage of allowing one of the twointernal effects to be assigned to the AUXBUS and then assigning PGM 1 and/orPGM 2 to the FlexFX Loop.NOTE: This Loop is for an externaleffects unit.
