PRACTICE BOOK Shaikh Zayed Grand MosqueLocated in the capital city of the UAE, Shaikh ZayedGrand Mosque opened its doors to the public in 2007.The beautiful mosque, built keeping in mind the historicaland modern values of architecture and art, is the largestin the UAE and is also among the 10 largest mosquesworldwide. The mosque — built by over 3,000 workers —was completed in 12 years at a total cost of Dh2.167billion and can accommodate 40,000 worshippers. Up to38 companies were engaged in the construction of theiconic structure.It has four minarets which are 107 metres high each,along with 57 domes which are all decorated with whitemarble.The best floral marble has been used to pave thecourtyard of the mosque that measures about17,000sqm. Seven copper and gold-plated chandeliers,including the world’s biggest which has a 10-metrediametre and 15 metre height, are fixed inside themosque.The Dh30-million carpet, the largest in the world, isanother feature which helped the mosque enter theGuinness Book of World Records.
