SynopsisMitch Albom’s favorite college professor is Morrie Schwartz and he takes allof Morrie’s offered classes while in college. Upon graduation, Mitch promisesto keep in touch, but gets wrapped up in his own career and life. About sixteenyears later, Mitch sees an interview of Morrie on Nightline and is inspired toseek out his old mentor who has been diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’sdisease. Mitch begins visiting Morrie every Tuesday. During their time together they discuss family, finances, forgiveness, and everything in between. Inthis final class, Morrie offers Mitch some of the greatest lessons life can offer. The Setting: Massachusetts, 1979 – 1995CastMorrie.John LeeMitch. A Letter fromWe Applaudthe PresidentMYour Efforts.y first real mentor was TomIsenhart. He was a teacher atParkersburg South High School andhe introduced me to the world of high schooldebate when I was in ninth grade. I fell in lovewith debate (and I loved Mr. I) and spent countless hours working withhim to improve my skills. During our “teaching sessions,” Mr. I tooktime to ask questions about my thoughts on various matters—alwayslistening intently to my responses and guiding my thoughts withadditional questions or short comments. We ApplaudWeApplaudYourEfforts.Your Efforts. After I graduated from high school, I was blessed with another mentor,Dr. Bill Bowen. Director’s NoteWhen i first read the play version of Tuesdays with MorrieI found it to be quite moving. The story was uplifting, humorous, sad and tragic all at the same time. I knew theplay needed to be produced on the Actors Guild stage. As I’ve worked on this show over the past year, I’ve also come torealize that this story is refreshingly void of the cynicism that seemsto permeate our culture today. It avoids quaint sentimentality anddelves deep into heart and soul matters in an honest and sometimesuncomfortable way. Ironically, though this play deals with death andsickness, it’s really about living life to the fullest. What stands out most, however, is the depth and intimacy of therelationship between these two men Mitch Albom and MorrieSchwartz. Albom’s story celebrates the importance of healthy, intimateand meaningful relationships, which is a very good thing indeed. Her knack was making us feel special. Her gift was her time, her touch and her gentle way.At Vaughan Funeral Home you provide the fond memories,we provide a memory service in honor of all the laughter, smilesand tears that made your loved one so special. This play proves once again that theatre has this amazing ability toprobe even the deepest areas of our heart, soul and mind in a mannerthat enlightens, challenges, and entertains. There’s nothing quite likelive theatre. I trust you will enjoy today’s performance. Be moved! Beengaged! Be encouraged! Be inspired!Charlie MatthewsDirector, Tuesdays with MorrieCelebration of Life ByMark E.
