Page 2Holy Trinity ParishDear friends of God,This weekend we again hear from John’s Gospel. The Evangelist John often wrote of eternal lifewhile the synoptic (one lens) Gospels spoke ofthe Kingdom of God (Mark and Luke), theKingdom of Heaven (Matthew) or the Reign ofGod (Mark and Luke). Eternal life and theKingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven and theReign of God were all pointing to the samemysterious reality. The fullness of life with Godas it says in one version of the Glory be: “ as itwas in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.”We have often thought of our life as a time ofwaiting to enter into “eternal life” or to “go toheaven.” The trouble is that is only part of thestory. With the death and resurrection of Jesus,we are anticipating our own bodily resurrection aswell. When we die, before the resurrection of thedead, we will “ fly to our beloved homeland” asSt. Augustine imagines in his book The City ofGod. There will be a moment, in God’s own time, after the judgment of the nations (take some timeto read Matthew 25: 31-46), when God will bringheaven and earth back together as it was fromthe moment of creation. Augustinian FatherMartin Laird in his lovely book Into the Silent Landwrites: “ we are built to commune with God andwe will all meet in death.” Our true self is onewith our God and with our neighbor. Thechallenge for us is to live this reality into theconcrete and immediate reality of our everydaylives. Or as some put it: “You, and I, andeveryone else, are created in the image andlikeness of God. Our challenge, therefore, is tolive our lives accordingly.” Lent is a time given tous every year to refocus our lives upon God andneighbor. That is why we more intentionallypractice prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Thesetraditional “skillful means” are meant to help us togrow in love and compassion, to let go of thefalseness of those parts of our true selves wherewe are in communion with our God and ourneighbor.resurrection in love and compassion from the painthat so many in our community have felt in theyears since the closing of St. Mary’s. Eventhough we worship in St. Michael’s Church, it isimportant to remember that our community is nowHoly Trinity. The place is St. Michael’s but thefaith community is something new. This mightseem like “just words”, but with the creation of ournew parish since the “closing” of St. Mary’s andSt. Michael’s (not to forget St. Agnes), we havethe opportunity to ask what God may be calling usto be in this time and place. We are Holy Trinity. The Trinity is God’s community of divine love(three that is one). As Holy Trinity parish, let usgrow in being the image and likeness of God. Letus be love together for our God and our neighbor.Very recently, the sale of St. Mary’s Nine Mile wascompleted. This is a reminder that our lives areMay St. Patrick, St. Joseph and all the saintsguide us into communion with our God and ourneighbor.continually composed of deaths andresurrections. There has been great grief at theloss of St. Mary’s, but let us open our hearts tothe many ways that God will bring forth theThis week we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day onWednesday and the Solemnity of Saint Joseph,Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Friday. The Irish (and we are all Irish on St. Patrick’s Day)celebrate this saint with great exuberance. St.Joseph’s Day is an important celebration for ourItalian friends.I will end with St. Patrick’s prayer:May the Strength of God pilot us.May the Power of God preserve us.May the Wisdom of God instruct us.May the Hand of God protect us.May the Way of God direct us.May the Shield of God defend us.May the Host of God guard usAgainst the snares of the evil ones,Against temptations of the world.May Christ be with us!May Christ be before us!May Christ be in us,Christ be over all!May Thy Salvation, Lord,Always be ours,This day, O Lord, and evermore. Amen.Much love,

How can we bringChrist’s light to others?Reflecting on the Word Perhaps one of the most well-recitedand reprinted verses in the New Testament is Jn 3:16: “ForGod so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so thateveryone who believes in him might not perish but haveeternal life.” God is the Creator who loved the world-not onlyJesus, the disciples and everyone who praised God, but all ofcreation. God’s love is the simple and profound force thatmotivates the entire work of creation. God sent Jesus to usnot to judge or condemn but to save. How do we respond tothat awesome love?Living the Word Prepare enough votive candles so that thereis one for each family member. At your prayer space, light acandle for each person. As you do, invite other familymembers to talk about how God’s love shines in that personand how he or she is a light to others. Continue as you light acandle for the next family member. Then praise and thankGod for his love and goodness.FIRST SUNDAY MEMORIAL MASS ASSOCIATIONHartley & Verellen FamiliesVennix & Vermeesch FamiliesFoco & Heppner FamiliesLynch & Skrocki FamiliesNickel & Kryszak FamiliesAugustyniak FamilyClifford & Bunny PickvetGornowicz FamilySchultz & LaPan FamiliesClarence Sobieray FamilyMary Morrissey FamilySkrabut & VanWert FamiliesBeverly ChesnyBishop & Monson FamiliesMissy (Gromaski) CnuddeBev KeithRichard GromaskiTalicska & Turmell FamiliesAnthony Jr., Kim, &Frank Jr. & Alice Lorence FamilyTony KopkaHelen & Floyd KrawczykGeorganna GulvasBertha & Floyd HigginsTom & Helen GulvasAdcock & LaBarge FamiliesPercy & Teresa DoyleAugustyniak & Holysko FamiliesJoan KothFrancis Rusch FamilyHolysko & Wielgos FamiliesAlex Arocha FamilyBeauchamp & Jacobs Families Krawczyk & Tarkowski FamiliesAlex & Esther SanakClifford Compeau FamilyGeorge Johnston FamilyMichael Kruchowski FamilyDonald Stempek FamilyGloria DrouseMichael DrouseRobert Drouse Sr.Larry & Milly CollierArchie Collier FamilyJoseph Talbot FamilyDembowske FamilyEva MillerStella MillerPawlowski & Turmell FamiliesSteve & Joanne SuchodolskiKaczmarek & & Krol FamiliesDubay & LaBean FamiliesEdward Gorney FamilyFenwick & Ancel FamiliesGarrett ShoultesKraska FamilyRobert J PiersonWilliam R PiersonLouis & Louise IdziorIdzior FamilyJerry IdziorSeyuin FamilyMamie D Trombley & FamilyMadeline Pierson & FamilyFrank & Lottie FedakJasura & Berthiaume FamiliesFrederick & Marilyn HinesIDZIOR FURNITURE“A Family Tradition Since 1947”4585 North Huron Rd.Bay City 989-684-9161Standish 989-846-9551879-2177Berthiaume Since 1947Slaughterhouse, Inc.Custom Smoking/SlaughteringJerky Pepper Sticks Deer Processing2283 E Pinconning Rd. 879-4921(989) 879-22235890 N.
