You canalso click More Columns to specify columnwidths, the space between columns, or toautomatically add a vertical line betweencolumns. To change the number of columns for justpart of the document (or if you want text towrap to just the top part of the page and anew article to start below – as shown on thispage), insert a section break before theposition where you want to start the newcolumn layout. To do this, on the PageLayout tab, in the Page Setup group, clickBreaks and then click the type of sectionbreak you need.Select a section breakWhen changing many types of page layoutformatting for just part of the document—such as paper size, margins, or orientation, the best section break type to use is a NextPage section break because it automaticallystarts the new section on a new page.Working with Columnsby [Article Author]However, when changing the number ofcolumns as you might in this newsletter, youmay prefer to select a Continuous break. Thecontinuous section break (used a few timesthroughout this template) starts a newsection immediately after the preceding one.So, for example, you can have a threecolumn article followed by a four-columnarticle, on the same page.

This is because theyautomatically fit the tight space withouthaving to remove any chart elements. Andyou might be surprised to learn that it’s easyto make them essentially mathematicallyaccurate. To use a table as a thermometer chart, dothe following:1.Add Sidebar Content2.Adding content into a column to create a sidebar is nodifferent from adding text. SUBTITLE Issue #next. So, when you want an article tocontinue on the next page, just keep typing. In the case of this placeholder article, it isseparated into two placeholder contentcontrols (one on this page and another thatstarts at the top of the following page) just sothat you can still see the layout of thefollowing page while you begin adding yourown text on this page. As mentioned on thefirst page of this template, remember that itmight look like the layout is skewed whenyou replace a long piece of placeholder textby starting to type your own, but it is not. Asyou add your content, the layout that followswill move down automatically and back intoposition. To remove the second placeholder controlthat starts immediately following this one, just select it and then press any key. You canthen continue typing from this page and yourtext will automatically flow onto the next.Wrap text around imagesThe photos in this article that are angled withwhite borders are “floating” images. That is,they are setup for text to wrap aroundthem—which is why they can span multiplecolumns in a three-column section.Additionally, as mentioned earlier, the photoof the young woman in the body of thisarticle is set to wrap text so that text will flowaround the image as you add your own text.To select text wrap settings, start byselecting the image and then do thefollowing:Notice the image of the young woman that’swithin a text column on the preceding page. The background has been removed from thatimage to allow text to wrap directly aroundthe subject.Office 2010 introduced several new andimproved picture formatting tools in Word,PowerPoint, and Excel. Among those is the51.On the Picture Tools Format tab, in theArrange group, click Wrap Text and thenselect either Square, Tight, or Top andBottom—depending on how you wantthe text to wrap. You might be happy with the defaultbehavior as soon as you do this.Otherwise, continue to step two forcustomization options.2.To set a specific position or controlbehavior (such as whether or not theimage moves with text), on the PictureTools Format tab, in the Arrangegroup, click Position and then clickMore Layout Options. On the Text Wrapping tab of theLayout dialog box, you can set a specificdistance from the image for text to wrapand control whether text can wrap onboth sides, one side only, or just aboveand below the image. On the Position tab of that dialog box,you can set a specific position for thebecause text can wrap around a text box justlike it can around a picture. Similarly, theorange divider bars that you see on pagescontaining more than one article are shapesset to wrap text. So, these text boxes andshapes can easily span multiple columnswithout having to insert a section break orchange the number of columns for just thatportion of the page. When you select a text box or a shape, on theDrawing Tools Format tab, in the Arrangegroup, you have the same settings for textwrapping and positioning that are describedabove for wrapping text around pictures.Note that, because text is set to wrap aroundthe orange divider bars, your article mightappear to slip below or above a bar, depending upon length. To adjust theposition of a divider bar shape toaccommodate the length of your articles, just select the shape and then use the up anddown arrow keys on your keyboard to nudgeit to the proper position.image on the pageand select or clearthe option toallow the pictureto move with text.Adding articletitles, bylines, and dividersThe article titles andbylines for thisnewsletter are createdin text boxes.
