Order for thePUBLIC WORSHIP of GODC I T Y S E RV E S U N DAYSeptember 29, 2019

Preparation for WorshipAs you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worshipand silence your mobile devices.Today is City Serve Sunday! Every year on this Sunday, we devote ourselvesto learning about and attending to the needs of our city and our ministrypartners who proclaim the Gospel in word and deed .Yet, the truth remains that we cannot sustain serving our city unless weattend regularly to the presence and greatness of our God . Eugene Petersonwrites: “Worship is the strategy by which we interrupt our preoccupationwith ourselves and attend to the presence of God .” How can we not be foreverpreoccupied with the great God of heaven, given all that He is to us and allthat He has done for us in His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord?May our Lord so unveil His beauty to our sight today that we becomepreoccupied with loving Him and our neighbors as we ought!Sing Loud Our Redeemer’s PraiseORGAN PRELUDE: Partita on “Blessed Name” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dan Henley, Agape Child and Family Services (8:15)Randy Odom, Memphis Athletic Ministries (11:00)The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God;to comfort all who mourn;to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins;they shall raise up the former devastations;they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: “Crown Him with Many Crowns” . . . DIADEMATAWords: Matthew Bridges / Music: George Elvey / Revelation 19:12Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne;Hark! how the heavn’ly anthem drowns all music but its own:Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for Thee,And hail Him as Thy matchless King through all eternity.Rest in Our Redeemer’s Finished WorkCORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSIONGracious heavenly Father,You are compassionate to the lonely and oppressed. You come to the rescue of the harassed and helpless.Yet, we confess our reluctance to imitate Your waysand engage Your mission.Forgive us for being more apathetic than active, isolated than involved, callous than compassionate, obstinate than obedient, and legalistic than loving.Pardon us for holding tightly to Your resources.May the costly love of Jesus motivate us anewto do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You.For we pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ our Lord.INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
