RegistrationRegistration Place : It will be announced at http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/en/before the registration dates.Registration Dates : September 11-15, 2017Registration Hours : 9:00 – 12:00 and 13:30 – 16:30Classes begin on October 2nd, 2017 however, students who cannot come for registration duringthe registration period with a valid excuse will have the right to register until October 6, 2017 atthe latest. It is strongly recommended that you come to registration during 11-15, 2017 so thatyou have a smoother registration process.Additionally, after completing your registration you are supposed to take the English ProficiencyExam held in the Campus in order to be exempt from studying one year English preparatoryschool in the Department of Basic English before starting to your undergraduate program.(Additional information can be found on the following pages.)Access to CampusIf you are arriving at Ankara by plane, from the airport take the BELKO shuttle or EGO airport businto the city. The nal stop of BELKO shuttle is at AŞTİ bus terminal. From AŞTİ you can get taxior mini blue shuttles called “Dolmuş” which are coming directly at ODTÜ.ODTÜ Campus is also accessible with public transportation from Kızılay, Ulus and Ayrancıdistricts.The main entrance to the ODTÜ Campus is Gate A1 on Eskişehir highway. In addition to A1, thegates A4 (from 100. Registration ProcedureThe following documents are required for registration. If your documents are not in Turkish orEnglish, the translations of the documents should also be submitted. Please be aware that yourregistration will not be completed unless you submit all the required documents listed below.1. Original Exam Result (Submitted for the application)2. Original High School Diploma3. Original High School Transcript4. Equivalence Letter: A letter certifying that your High School Diploma is equivalent to a TurkishHigh School Diploma. Please obtain this document before coming for the registration. It canbe obtained from the Turkish Embassy in your country or the National Education Directoratesin the cities of Turkey. (In Ankara, you can apply to the following address: Ankara İl Milli EğitimMüdürlüğü, MEB Beşevler Kampüsü I Blok Yenimahalle) In order to apply for this letter, youshould submit your high school diploma, its translation, and your transcript showing all thecourses you have taken in High School, their grades and credit hours.5. Passport and Its copy: Students with other than a Turkish citizenship should get a “Visa”from the Turkish Embassy in their country. During ODTÜ registration, passports should be shownto the International Student’s Advisors, and copies of the pages that include “identificationinformation”, “visa” and “the page with stamp showing the entry date” should be submitted.Students who have been living in Turkey for at least one year with an Education ResidencePermit should give the copies of their Student Residence Permit. Students who have a diplomaticpassport or a “blue card” do not need to submit visa or residence permit.“Additionally, studentswho have two nationalities should submit their second nationality’s passport or document.”6. 2 Color Photos: 4,5 x 6 cm biometric photos must have been taken in the last 6 months toreflect your current appearance. Your face on the photo must be clearly visible and recognizable.You are recommended to bring 12 photos since you need extra photos for dormitory applications.7. Bank Receipt of the Paid Semester Tuition Fee: Tuition fees are paid to the banks justbefore registration. The amount of tuition fees is stated on the following web site http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/en/tuition-fee-amounts and also available on following pages. Important ExplanationsRegistration as freshman: Students with an acceptable English Proficiency examination scoresuch as TOEFL or IELTS or those who have successfully passed the English Proficiency Examof ODTÜ will be registered as freshman. These students additionally need to do their interactiveregistrations on September 27-29, 2017. Interactive registration dates can also be checkedfrom “Academic Calendar”. For more information about interactive registrations, you can on-about-interactive-registrations. You should selectthe courses online and get your academic advisor’s approval during this period of interactiveregistration.Students with incomplete registration documents: Registration can only be completed whenyou submit all the required documents. If your registration documents are not complete, youneed to bring the missing documents until the deadline of registration period: October 6th, 2017.Former ODTÜ students (who have gained the right to register for a new department):These students must withdraw from their previous department following the instructions outlinedat https://oibs2.metu.edu.tr/Registration Withdrawal 269/. These students should take theiroriginal documents from the Registrar’s Office and submit them again for their new registration.Student ID number: All students have a student ID number. Your number is written on theacceptance letter you have received from ODTÜ. It will also appear on the ID card you will begiven after registration. This number will be used for all official procedures in your study at ODTÜ.“On Leave” status: Students with a valid excuse (e.g. health, study abroad etc.) may begranted an “on leave” status provided that the Administrative Board of their Faculty acceptsit (the Chairperson of DBE for students who will follow Preparatory Class, the Chairpersons ofDepartments for those who will directly start as a freshman). Students must submit a petition witha valid excuse and other related documents to their Department. However, the tuition fee shouldbe paid before making an application for “on leave” status and the registration process should becompleted. If those students want to secure their place at University dorms, Directorate of Dormsshould be informed about this situation to reserve their rights.Students, who would like to be exempted from certain courses that have already beentaken: Students who have some courses already taken by them from ODTÜ or another equivalentuniversity may apply to be exempted from those courses if they meet the English proficiencyrequirements. Students should submit a petition about it as well as a transcript to their DepartmentChair before the end of the interactive registration period. English Language ExamsThe medium of instruction at ODTÜ is English. All students who wish to carry out their undergraduateor graduate studies at ODTÜ have to certify their proficiency in the English language.English Proficiency Exam / Morning sessionSeptember 18, 2017 Monday10:00English Proficiency Exam / Afternoon session September 18, 2017 Monday14:00Placement Exam10:30*September 22, 2017 FridayYou must be at the exam place half an hour before.For students who cannot take the exams on the above mentioned dates due to late registration,additional exams are scheduled. Information about those exams will be given after registration.1. English proficiency examination: Students who would like to begin their studies as freshmenare required to take and pass this exam. Students who obtain 59.5 (69.5 for English LanguageTeaching program) or more in this exam can register as a freshman. Successful students willnot study in English Preparatory Class for one year. Students who obtain 85 or above from theEnglish Pro ciency Exam of ODTÜ are exempted with credit (with an AA) from the compulsoryEnglish course ENG 101. Credits and grades for exempted courses will not be counted in thesemester’s Grade Point Average (GPA), but will be counted in calculation of the cumulative GPA.2. Placement examination: All students, except for those who have a valid international EnglishPro ciency exam score and who pass English Pro ciency Exam of ODTÜ, will take this exam.The aim of this exam is to determine the students’ level of English knowledge and to groupthem according to their levels. Students will be placed according to the results of the Placementexamination.3. International examinations: You may also submit an internationally recognized English Prociency Exam result (TOEFL IBT, IELTS or PTE Academic) to start your freshman year. The validityof these exams is two years. Former ODTÜ students who have left the University while studying at the Departmentof Basic English: Students who registered to the Department of Basic English and who havefailed at the end of one or two academic years or who left the university without completing oneacademic year and who get admitted again may register to the Department of Basic English forone year, for one time only.5. SUNY programs: English pro ciency limits are different for SUNY Programs than for otherundergraduate programs. Minimum scores required for exemption from the English PreparatorySchool are: ODTU EPE 65, TOEFL IBT 79, IELTS 6.5 and PTE Academic 62.Equivalence Table for English Language Exams Recognized by ODTÜ can be viewed nd-graduate-studentsExamination PlacesPlacement examination: It will be held at the School of Foreign Languages buildings. Department of Basic English(Preparatory Program)The Department of Basic English aims to provide the students whose level of English is belowpro ciency level with basic language skills so that they can pursue their undergraduate studies atour university without major dif culty. To achieve this aim, the department runs a two-semesterintensive program placing emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking.Students are placed in ve groups according to their levels of English and have 12, 15, 20 or 25class hours per week all through the academic year. Following RegistrationAfter completing your registration, you need to get your ODTÜ username and password that isessential for your all online transactions during your education. During the registration, you will beinformed in detail about how to get username and password.After getting username and password, you have to apply Student Identi cation Card (ID) Youfollowing the instructions at http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/en/student-id-cards. Tuition FeesThe tuition fee amounts for 2017-2018 Academic Year have not been determined yet by theministerial cabinet. When it has been determined, it will be announced at the following sIt is possible to make tuition fee payments via bank branches located at the Campus. The bankbranches providing this service at the Campus are: Akbank, Is Bank, VakıfBank, and Yapı Kredi.Students should state their student ID number when they are making their payment. Studentswho request refund can consult with this office. (Faculty of Arts and Sciences 2nd Floor)The tuition fee control in registration program: Data on tuition fee payments is processedonline between the banks and ODTÜ. As soon as students make their tuition fee payments, thisinformation is received by the registration program. However, students are recommended tokeep the bank receipt. Students, who do not pay their tuition fee or do not pay the total amount,cannot register, except scholarship students.Scholarship students (Turkey scholarships, IDB and governmental scholarships) do not pay thetuition fee. Students who are exempted from tuition fee should submit the related documentwhen they register. AccommodationNew students may apply for a place in the dormitories as soon as they have completed theirregistration. There is occasionally a waiting list for dormitory space. Those who cannot applyduring the registration days will lose points for late application and wait more to nd available room.Thus, early application is more advantageous. The accepted students list will be announced onthe boards of Directorate of Dormitories and its web page. However, it should be noted that theavailable rooms are limited for international students. IS 100 CourseIntroduction to Information Technologies and Applications (IS100) is a must course that studentshave to take in the rst year of their undergraduate education. The aim of this course is to introduceall ODTÜ students to the basic information technology concepts and applications and make themboth computer and information literate. These basic skills are expected to be used during theirundergraduate studies in their respective disciplines, as well as during their professional lives.IS100 lectures are mainly conducted online.
