ANNUAL REPORT2016-17Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & TechnologyThe Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), Jaipurestablished on 23rd May, 2011 by Ordinance No. 04 of 2011 and regularised byRajasthan Legislative Assembly, Jaipur vide Act No. 22 of 2011 is sponsored by IndiaEducation Trust, Jaipur. It has been established with incredible efforts of Dr. M.L.Swarankar, Chairman, IET, Jaipur with the aim to contribute to the academicdevelopment in the Faculties allied to Medicine viz. Medical Sciences, Dental Sciences,Nursing, Physiotherapy, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Alternative Medicine andParamedical Sciences. This University is the first Medical University in the State ofRajasthan in private sector.The Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences, Jaipur was visited by the UGCExpert Committee on August 29-30, 2014 for on the spot assessment of theUniversity. The recommendations of the committee of UGC members along with thereport of UGC inspection committee were considered by the University GrantsCommission at its 506th meeting {(item number 1.02(a)(ii)} held on February 03,2015. The UGC approved the recommendations of the committee, as conveyed by theUnder Secretary, UGC vide his letter no. 8-20/2011 (CPP-I/PU) dated February 09,2015 to the MGUMST. Accordingly the MGUMST, established under RajasthanLegislative Assembly Act No. 22 of 2011 has been recognized by UGC (Section 22 ofthe UGC Act, 1956 & para 3.7 & 3.8 of UGC regulations 2003). This approval of theUGC has been noted by the members of the Board of Management at its 13 th meetingheld on April 22, 2015.All the Courses of the University are recognized by the Respective Statutory bodies ofthe Govt. of India - MCI, DCI, INC & Govt. of Rajasthan.India Education TrustIndia Education Trust is the sponsoring body of Mahatma Gandhi University of MedicalSciences & Technology, Jaipur. It was established as a Public Charitable Trust and isduly registered with Devasthan Department, Government of Rajasthan underRajasthan Public Trust Act, 1959 (Act No. 42 of 1959) vide Registration No.20/Jaipur/1999 dated May 24, 1999. The Trust is also registered with the Income TaxDepartment under Section 11 of Income Tax Act, 1961 and is exempted from tax. TheOffice of the India Education Trust is at RIICO Institutional Area, Sitapura, Tonk Road,Jaipur - 302022.The main objectives of the Trust are (a) to undertake research and studies in Medical,Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy and related disciplines (b) to develop educationalinstitutions conducting studies and research in these disciplines (c) to continuouslyimprove the health status of people by providing primary as well as advanced healthcare (d) to establish hospitals including specialty and super-specialty clinics,dispensaries, maternity homes and RCH centres (e) to develop health manpower bycreating training centres for medical and allied health care professionals and to1 Page

promote and support activities of other educational institutions which are catering andimproving public health at large.The University since its establishment in the year 2011 and during the subsequentyears is continuing its activities - teaching, training, conducting examinations, holdingseminars/conferences/orations, paper publications and organising various cultural,games & sports activities.Teaching UnitsThe university has following colleges and hospitals including a nursing school as itsintegral part. Central Library1. Introduction :The Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Library was established in the year 2000. TheM.G.M.C Library was dedicated in the name of Dr. K. D. Gupta on 08th April 2007 andcame to be known as of Dr. K. D. Gupta Memorial Library.2 . Goals and Objectives :To offer a current and up-to-date collection of print and non-print materials supportingpatient care, research and teaching needs of all library users.To provide services that include: Use of the library collections, including books, journals, audiovisual materials,and electronic resources Reference assistance in person, by phone or e-mail Literature/database searching Interlibrary loans/document delivery of journal articles and/or books Internet access, user support and consultation Individual instruction and/or group instruction To provide the physical space and resources for users to conduct their libraryresearch, study . The Library has 05 reading halls & a computer section with 40 nodes.Photocopying services are also provided in the Library. The library is open throughoutthe year from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on all working days. Animal Simulator is a program that enables the user to perform various animalexperiments in a virtual environment. User can study the effect of drugs on ciliarymotility of frog esophagus, determine of the PD2 of Serotonin on stomach strippreparation and the effects of various strengths of stimulus for muscle. Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source offers an extensive collection of important fulltext journals, as well as dozens of full-text monographs. DELNET: is a network of 1000 institutions and access is being given to more than60 lakh records through online systems. ConvocationThe Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology, Jaipur conductedits First Convocation on September 17, 2017 in R.L Swarankar Auditorium of theUniversity. Degrees/Certificates/ Gold Medals & Merit Certificates were awarded to thequalified students. The First Convocation was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Smt.Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan.Guests of Honour were Sh. Rajendra Rathore, Minister of Medical Education & Health,Govt. of Rajasthan, Sh. Kali Charan Saraf, Minister of Higher and Technical Education,Sh. Ramcharan Bohara, Member of Parliament, Jaipur andDr. Kailash Verma,Member Legislative Assembly, Bagru. Special Guests were Padmashree Dr R PSoonawala, Patron & Former Chairperson of the University and Dr. Hari Gautam,Former President of the University.Dr. M L Swarankar, the Chairperson and Chancellor of the University declared the firstconvocation of the University open.In the first convocation total 271 Degrees/Certificates and 28 Gold Medals & MeritCertificates were awarded by the Hon'ble Chief Guest Smt. Vasundhara Raje, ChiefMinister of Rajasthan to the concerned students of Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy andNursing Faculties.Apart from the Degrees & Certificates, following Doctors of Mahatma Gandhi Hospitalwho brought pride to the State of Rajasthan were awarded Certificates ofAppreciation by the Chief Guest for their excellent work in the field of medicaleducation and treatment :1. Dr. M A Chishti – Cardiac Surgeon extra ordinaire brought laurels to MahatmaGandhi Hospital and the State of Rajasthan by carrying out the first successfulheart transplant on a patient in August, 2015. The patient is now healthy andcarrying out his normal activity.2. Dr. T C Sadasukhi – Head of the Renal Transplant program at MahatmaGandhi Hospital, in last three years, has carried out more than 250 transplant.3. Dr. Suraj Godara – One of the twin pillars of the renal transplant team, madean extra ordinary contribution in the field of Nephrology.4. Dr. Pankaj Gupta – A famous Neuro Surgeon, made a name for this Institutein the field of Endoscopic Neurosurgery and Neurosurgical Navigation by doingcomplex surgeries.5. Dr. Giriraj Bora – Made an outstanding contribution in the field of HepatoPancreato Biliary Surgery and carried out Liver transplant program at MahatmaGandhi Hospital. He conducted 8 transplants in a short span of few weeks.6. Dr. Shyam Sunder Mahansaria - One of the twin pillars of the Livertransplant team, made an extra ordinary contribution in the field of HepatoPancreato Biliary Surgery.Dr. Sudhir Sachdev the Pro-president MGUMST delivered vote of thanks to the Hon'bleChief Guest, Guests and Participants. Atpresent this multi - specialty teaching hospital has 1000 beds. All beds in the "GeneralWard" are free beds to cater the needs of the general masses of State of Rajasthanespecially the poor and the weaker section of the society, which also provides adequateclinical teaching materials as envisaged by Medical Council of India, Dental Council ofIndia, and Indian Nursing Council. The infrastructure with the state-of-the-art medicalequipments and highly reputed and experienced faculty/medical consultants/doctors/paramedical staff of MGH provide clinical support to the faculty of medicalsciences.MGH has a fully developed central diagnostic laboratory in biochemistry, microbiologyand pathology. Well-trained senior faculty supervise this lab which is one of the biggestin the State. MGH provides well-developed, unique services in the field of AdvancedReproductive Techniques (ART), medical and surgical endoscopy and modern bloodbanking with component therapy and Clinical Haematology & Immunology.MGH has started its Regional Emergency and Trauma Centre and has well-equippedambulance facilities meant to save lives of the victims of road accidents. The efficientand effective emergency department is well-equipped with intensive care therapy,diagnostics, radio-diagnostic including ultra-sonography and CT scan, MRI, haematologyand fully equipped operation theatres manned by eminent professionals and expertsround-the-clock. This is the first self financing trauma centre in the State approved bythe Govt. of Rajasthan to deal with medico-legal cases including road traffic accidents.The Government has also approved conducting the Post-mortem examination under theDept. of Forensic Medicine of the college.MGUMST has an excellent & modern Cardiac & Critical Care Centre.
